After setting the tone with two initial releases by Peryl & Ike Dusk, Codec 992 returns with a straight five tracker by Buried Secrets on their third release called „Abandoned In Destiny“.

Under a different alias, the artist behind Buried Secrets should already be a familiar figure to many techno fans. For the Buried Secrets project, he made the conscious decision to keep things anonymous and let the music speak for itself – And with the likes of Dax J among early supporters, it seems his music speaks very clearly. On “Abandoned in Destiny”, Buried Secrets unearths previously dismissed musical influences, drawing inspiration from the tough sounds of techstep drum & bass.

The five track EP relentlessly pushes forward at a fast pace, from the highly energetic, ravy opener “Stormcloaks”, through the equally fast paced bangers “Take Control” and the titular “Abandoned in Destiny”, to the intricate drumming and trance-esque breaks of “Ballad Of Fallen Angels” – Over the course of its first four tracks, Abandoned in Destiny sounds like a well-balanced, strobe fuelled, peak time techno set.

To round things off, Henning Baer contributes his remix of “Take Control” as the fifth and final track. Baer skilfully turns the original into a broken, decidedly slower electro cut, playfully defying the listeners expectations.

According to our statistics, most of our listeners are millennials: the people born in between 1980 and 2000. Sensive – who also grew up in the 90s – walks the same road and has also experienced the evolution of technology at a high pace, much like an invasion.

Also reflected in the urgency of his music, the direction of Sensive’s second EP is paved by the function of power and groove. Even though the EP as a whole is quite abrasive, the bridge to accessibility is present by each track having an understandable rhythm and groove build with a lot of percussive elements.

Starting the EP with title track “The Millennial Mile”, a contagious funky bass line driven forward by multiple details of percussion. From the mid part onwards a synthesizer is used to have short stabs emphasize the synergy between the rhythm of the kick and bass.

In “Barricade” there is kick-pummeling and rolling sub-basses drowned in a whirlpool of a cold and rugged soundscape. Organic wooden percussion drives the groove forward at a clanking 136 beats per minute.

“Rinse And Defeat” has the most distortion going on but there’s also a lot of swing at play. Characterized by a churning bass-line this stomper is grounded in a timeless aesthetic with amplified screeches that would have a lot of warehouses’ sound systems turned inside out.

Known for his iconic tracks on Kulør and Ectotherm, also featured on the EP is an obscure remix by one of Copenhagen’s most interesting artists. Here DJ Ibon creates an enigmatic scenery and the outlining of a desolate atmosphere and vibe which makes for a perfect fit for the closing of a set.

Closing the EP with a SDB remix of “Barricade”. Next to his everlasting supply of funk, he is back on Märked with his signature sound by multiplying the sample of Sensive’s pad and remodeling it to something majestic we previously heard in his last release with us

Long time label resident Toni Dextor serves up his second EP to date, after his recent end of year debut on “made of Concrete”, while fellow label mate MTD takes on remix duties.

Title track “Fracture” showcases a raw, simple appeal, with its relentless bassline and immense drum loops that take over from the first bar. It’s a straightforward, heavy-hitting slice of techno that takes no prisoners. MTD reshapes the track into a bare-bone, stripped down version with subtle appeal.

“Hardening” stays true to name, centering its melody on concrete-like bass drums, while keeping the same ruthless, high-paced dynamic. Meanwhile, “Temperature” rises up to the challenge with another set of monolithic drums and a zippy, steadfast melody.

Scarlit Port is a Berlin-based producer who has released some mad stuff on NURSE, Brokntoys (a split EP with Identified Patient) and Monolith Rec. For his new EP “Satoria” on Tripalium Corp, he composed six tracks “from the ancient contemporary future”. Influenced by Space Age Music, Joris-Karl Huysmans, Slayer, 60s/70s Persian Pop and Technical Analysis, the sounds of this EP will destabilise binary thinking.
