Next up on ‘made of Concrete is an occult offering from label heads Rebar, backed by a filmic remix from Sardinia-born, Tresor resident Claudio PRC.

The record begins with ‘Dawn’s Embrace’ – a chilly trip that unfurls with deeply suspensive energy. Masterfully arranged, the track courses through its chapters as minor key synths and delicate percussion expand and fork out like rivers toward an oceanic breakdown and finale.

‘Radiant Resurgence’ continues the journey with a modular meditation. An expansive, morphing pad generates a great depth of sound while myriad parameters are tweaked and mangled, giving the work a living, breathing quality.

‘When Darkness Surrenders To The Lights’ sets the tone for another murky journey. Atonal drones form dystopian waves that crash against industrial percussion as a cinematic sense of tension develops. Claudio PRC then contributes some of his trademark widescreen sonics.

Now based in Berlin, Claudio PRC is widely appreciated for his meticulous, cosmic take on Techno, and his work here beautifully expands on this trademark. A deep-set kick provides buoyancy and ballast while soaring synths spread their wings. Polyrhythms begin to overlap, giving the track a subtle primal energy that carries the record to its conclusion.

Hailing from Nuremberg, Michael Rosmann is a revered producer, DJ and event manager who specialises in functional, dub-infused Techno.

With his finger in many pies – Rosmann has developed a breadth of experience that is evident in his productions and DJ sets which often carry a stamp of potent simplicity. His latest EP ‘Violet’ is a pack of rattling and mesmerising productions which come backed up with a remix from Hotflush affiliate Anna Kost.

The title track kicks things off with deft dynamics as a metallic stab bounces off against striking stabs and powerful drums. ‘Purpur’ then follows up with a demonic sequence and stout percussion which are set together into a mind-bending polyrhythm before ‘Nam Ba’ soundtracks a chaotic but exhilarating trip. Filters set a fiery motif searing through a short drum break which is cleverly sequenced into a functional DJ tool.

Anna Kost then concludes the record with a distorted, dystopian remix of ‘Violet’. Scattered snares, nifty kick work and a adroit use of FX create a rich sense of depth in a track that depicts staggered strobes burning through sweat and smoke.

Berlin / Dresden based Made of Concrete continue a long string of galvanised club material with a new offering from the auspicious Angioma. Also now based in Berlin – the Lyon-born artist has a penchant for non-conformist art with an anarchistic twist and this is reflected across his project ROOM which encompasses art, music and cross-discipline collaboration.

The stripes Angioma has earned across these endeavours and his approach in the studio slot him neatly into the ‘made of Concrete’ catalogue – as evinced in this, his 2nd offering on the label: ‘Touch and What’ EP.

The EP kicks off with the title track which sets a dense thud through murky, aquatic atmospheres. Synths are submerged and gloomy as the track pushes forward with moody intent. Deftly EQd hats twist and turn as further percussion bleeds into a tense mix – a perfect intensity for an effective warm up.

‘And See’ then follows up with a quicker tempo as a rubbery kick drives through shuffling shakers and panned hats. A hypnotic, head bending melody then creeps in as nifty filter control has the track thicken and thin throughout as he tone is set bubbling without ever boiling over.

‘What Happens’ then plots icy stabs atop another stout kick drum and trimmed, minimal percussion. Frazzled signals and a clever mix down create a rich sense of space as the track continues to open out before Rebar weigh in with their contribution.

Mainstays of ‘made of Concrete’, the duo perfectly encapsulate the label’s canon: bold, sturdy Techno which demonstrates the power of simplicity. Their refined revision lays percolating congas and toms over a persistent stab, computer FX samples and a fizzy kick which rounds another ‘made of Concrete’ EP off in fine style.

Markus Suckut returns with his second EP on ‘made of Concrete’. Named after the Ruhr area, one of the densest regions in Germany, ‘Ruhr’ shows off the mesmerizing skillset and versatility of the producer. His hometown Düsseldorf is one of the three major cities on the Ruhr map and has brought up its very own Düsseldorf-sound within German electronic music, with local heroes Kraftwerk paving the way in the 1970s. The twists and turns of the Ruhr river and the musical paths that electronic music has taken all come together in this EP, which steers from techno to electronica with ease.

While ‘Tunnel’ is a rather straightforward minimal techno banger, the title track ‘Ruhr’ is almost melancholic. ‘At The Park With Friends’ ventures into the realms of ambient. The 5-tracker is accompanied by a technoid remix of ‘Smoke’ by Markus Suckut’s longtime friend Thomas Hessler.

The ‘Reference’ EP doesn’t try to reinvent something good. Instead, it evolves and expands on its theme and chosen genre. It carries Kowalski’s musical energy like water: from the introductory ‘Reference’ with its classic dub delays and ambient sounds, to the unhurried ‘Trawl JD’.
