[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Neovex plays Keith Carnal

DJ:
Neovex

About the concept:
Here is the twenty-second instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you Neovex’s mix of tracks produced or remixed by Keith Carnal.

About Neovex:
Neovex is a 21-year-old Dj based in Augsburg/GER. He was doing his first steps in electronic music two years ago. With private parties he found his way to the bigger clubs in Augsburg. Now he has his own event-series called Under Current which is based at the Soho Stage / Augsburg. He booked artists like Farrago and The Reason Y and played support for them. He also plays at one of the biggest techno-events in Augsburg called KlangLabor and performed there before/after Victor Ruiz, Egbert, dubspeeka, Hatzler, …

About Keith Carnal:
Amsterdam based Keith Carnal has in recent years become seen as somewhat of a tastemaker in today’s world of techno. It might not then come as a big surprise to you that he has also become a favoured producer among many who are seen as “techno mainstay”, gaining support from numerous of his own musical inspirations and champions. Carnal, who grew up in a very musical home in the northern part of Holland, found techno at an early age when he began sourcing and selecting on his own. Techno was, and very much is, the first music that made a deep impression on Keith. This feeling only went on to become more cemented after a few years of composing on his own. It simply became clearer and clearer that Carnal is exactly where he belongs.

Keith’s own style of techno always has a strong emphasis on melodies and groove – it is made for dancing no doubt. Often the melody creates a rather ominous feeling for the listener, but with a certain melancholy to it. This is weighed up expertly with Keith focusing on the tracks being driven forward by strong percussion elements. His compositions contain a fresh vibe that immerses his audience as much as it does with his fellow producer and DJ colleagues.

Carnal’s own productions very much goes hand in hand with the selections he makes as a DJ. A set of Keith’s always focuses on keeping the tempo and the groove up and going. Classic productions are mixed confidently with more current ones. His sets flourish with tracks that are atmospheric and contain strong melodic segments – tracks where percussion and bass play a major part in why being selected. For Keith Carnal creating the right groove is the main target. This year will see Keith releasing several strong productions as well as continuing his extensive international touring schedule, where he is headlining many of the major festivals and clubs. Keith Carnal is a fresh wind in today’s techno climate.

Neovex About His Choice:
One year ago I was trying to find my kind of techno. I tried so many styles but I didn‘t get the „real“ feeling when I mixed the tunes at the club. With his Aluminium EP (released on ARTS) and especially the track ‘Racidence’ I found this feeling.

[Mix]: Emanuel De Vayrac – NovaFuture Blog Visual Mix 004

DJ:
Emanuel De Vayrac

Introduction:
Emanuel De Vayrac is the the right person to take us on a trippy, hypnotizing and spaced out journey along his long musical experiences.

Organising in Hamburgs mid-nineties illegal open air raves and techno parties in the notorious Rote Flora, he first started producing and djing ambient/experimental sounds. After some musical stopovers (like in glamy synthpop) he found his home in drifty but sophisticated Techno.

The Goethe Institut invited him in 2007 as Berlin’s representative underground DJ to play in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other international bookings brought him e.g. to Tokyo, Toronto, Moscow and Yekaterinburg.

In between he visited the class of soundartist Michaela Melián at art university HfBK and worked as a lawyer in film companies. After suspending the work as a lawyer in favour of music, Emanuel started a one-year-residency at the House club Chalet but quickly turned towards Techno-hot-spots like Griessmuehle, Sisyphos, Humboldthain, Tresor or the Fusion Festival.

His Habitus parties, inviting artists like Hector Oaks, Keith Carnal, Dadub, Arnaud Le Texier, Nikita Zabelin, The Transhumans, Deepbass, Joachim Spieth, Głós, Manuel Münster, Christian Gerlach or RVDS were for several years

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Gutter plays R&S Records

DJ:
Gutter

About the concept:
Here is the twenty-first instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

Today we present you Gutter’s mix of tracks released on R&S Records.

About Gutter:
Gutter was born and raised in Berlin and focuses not only on techno or other dance music genres, but also on other music which is not meant for the dance floor, such as ambient experimental or other contemporary music. He is part of the record label called Mandatory Records and a resident DJ of the [selected] collective.

About R&S Records:
Ever since the glory days of disco in the 70s the allure of a record label has often equalled or even eclipsed the artists, not only for the ubiquitous trainspotters but simply devotees looking for a seal of quality, something to take the music forward or simply something guaranteed to blow the roof off. Disco had Salsoul and Prelude, Chicago house was dominated by DJ International and Trax, Detroit techno gained its mystique from labels like Metroplex and Transmat while New York deep house was ruled by Nu Groove and Strictly Rhythm.

Meanwhile in Ghent, Belgium, the distinctive Ferrari-like prancing horse logo of R&S heralded a stream of cutting edge techno gold unleashed as the label corralled more seismic electronic battle-weapons than any in European dance music history. R&S licensed the hottest tunes from all over the world while developing its own formidable stable of producers. It’s catalogue is nothing short of stunning. The roster reads like the who’s who of electronic music, Aphex Twin, Derrick May, Ken Ishi, CJ Bolland, Kenny Larkin, 69 / Carl Craig, Joey Beltram, Model 500, Dave Angel, the list goes on…

The start of 2008 saw the relaunch of R&S, releasing a number of re-mastered classic albums, and remixes of classics from the likes of Audion, Prins Thomas, Tom Middleton, Optimo and Boyz Noise. But the label is not about looking to the past, it’s continuing it’s tradition of releasing brand new, cutting edge music. Since the relaunch the label has re-positioned itself again as one of the most forward thinking electronic labels with the new roster featuring the likes of James Blake, Pariah, Space Dimension Controller, Blawan, Lone, Vondelpark, Model 500, Tessela, Paul White and Airhead.

Gutter About His Choice:
This podcast primarily focuses on the dance music published by R&S. But I chose this label, because, with its 30 year history, R&S released an uncountable number of diverse music reaching from new wave, experimental ambient, techno, drum and bass to pop and jazz funk. This made it quite a challenge to put everything in one podcast, which is why i decided to do for the why i decided to do just the electronic part.

About Hórnbęrg:
Since nearly 20 years in a relationship with electronic music. He runs the podcast series “Gramofonowa.” Catch him for details.

About I/Y Music:
I/Y (I = Irakli / Y = Yacoub) is a Berlin based duo that met there and delved into techno at the beginning of the millennium. Since its inception, I/Y has tried to go beyond functionality and explore singularity in electronic music. In the abyss of atonal and dystopian soundscapes – never leaving character once and shirking the colorful accoutrements of false hope – they observe everything : “the world is ending, future is a fallacy, we have no choice but to celebrate the dying light of our civilization with mourning and wild dancing.

But not only being artists themselves they run the label of the same name, releasing their own and friends’ stuff plus curating also the vinyl output for STAUB and MOMENTS.

Text mainly based on the text published by their booking agency
