Press Info:
After spending his formative years crafting a unique take on Techno, French musician Terence Fixmer released his debut album ‘Muscle Machine’ in 1999. Forging a path with tracks like ‘Electrostatic’ and ‘Body Pressure’ that became instant classics re defining the Techno scene.

For his follow up album Fixmer recalled one of his early influences and enlisted the legendary voice of Douglas J McCarthy, the lead singer from the cult band Nitzer Ebb and 2003 saw them join forces for the first time in the unlikely spot of Lille. Initially Fixmer wanted McCarthy to work on just one or two tracks as a guest vocalist but within merely a few days in the studio their collaboration proved so fruitful that they decided to make an entire album. Thus Fixmer/McCarthy was born.

McCarthy’s musical journey actually began in 1982 as a teen proto synth punk in the UK. Nitzer Ebb self released three 12” singles before signing to the bastion of electronic music, Mute Records, in 1986. Touring extensively with Depeche Mode on the ‘Music For The Masses’ and ‘Violator’ tours they cut a jarring trail through the music scene both in Europe and the USA. After five albums, McCarthy took a hiatus from music to pursue filmmaking. It was during this break that Fixmer was asked by Mute Records to remix the Nitzer Ebb classic ‘Let Your Body Learn’ which led him to invite McCarthy to participate with his new album.

Fixmer/McCarthy became the precursor to a new breed of Techno artists managing to traverse between the scene specific genres of Techno and EBM without being tied to either.

Now, after 13 years of writing and touring the world together, they return with their signature raw sound and delivery. ‘So Many Lies’ is quintessential brooding Techno whilst dispatching the cold steel aggression of EBM.

Press Info:
Succeeding his profound and forward-thinking album ‘Depth Charged’ which was revealed last February, Terence Fixmer returns with ‘Depth Charged Remixed’ featuring Ostgut Ton’s Answer Code Request and UK’s underground techno hero Steve Bicknell.

‘Elevation’, originally the final track of the album, emotional and reflective, is kicked up a notch by ACR’s Patrick Gräser by adding ponderous drum patterns making it perfect for the floor. Conversely, Steve Bicknell takes on ‘Unforeseen’. With it’s fast paced rolling bass it is now put into top gear shivering with feverish reverberations.

To compliment each variation, included on the EP are Fixmer’s own live versions that have energetically filled dance floors throughout his tour.

Press Info (English):
Kobosil, Norman Nodge and Marcel Dettmann offer new versions of Terence Fixmer’s 2003 “Aktion Mekanik Theme” on Ostgut Ton.

It’s safe to say that Terence Fixmer’s track “Aktion Mekanik Theme” (Music Man Records, 2003) was as much a landmark release for Techno as the whole Aktion Mekanik compilation was for EBM as a genre. “As an artist who’s been pushing EBM sounds into the modernity of Techno it was a logical step to do the compilation back then,” Terence says. “I wanted to show my influences as a Techno artist, as Detroit sounds weren’t my roots at all, but classics by Front 242, Fad Gadget, Nitzer Ebb, Crash Course In Science or Snowy Red.

I met Music Man’s Stefaan Vandenberghe through Emmanuel Top in ‘93, and of course I was a fan of his label – the label in Belgium at that time. Music Man was obviously the perfect place for this EBM project: they are from Belgium, they knew the bands, many of them were proud of this sound. So I discussed my idea of putting out a compilation with some classic and landmark tracks from the EBM direction with Stefaan, and it got made.”

While the original version is simultaniously being re-released on red 12“ vinyl on Music Man, Ostgut Ton offers three versions of “Aktion Mekanik Theme” – after the original found its way into the DJ sets of the remixers. “I was surprised as – to me – this track was a kind of forgotten one from a limited vinyl compilation.”, Terence continues. “And it was a nice surprise to see that young artists such as Kobosil are into this kind of music, too. Marcel suggested to give this track a new life through remixes. The Kobosil one injects an amazing energy with a great sound, I wish I would have done such a version at that time.”, Fixmer comments.

Press Info:
Over the past two decades, French producer and live performer, Terence Fixmer, has continued to evolve as an artist while maintaining his influential stance in international techno culture. With his last solo album, Comedy of Menace, already five years behind us, his continuous evolution has led him to produce his most introspective album yet. With this 10-piece composition Fixmer is able to tell a story from start to finish, with powerful, deep, dark, pulsating tones that are essential to his musical approach.

Depth Charged is a complete concept as Fixmer’s track arrangement takes the audience through various emotions illustrating how there is more to darkness than the dance floor. Beginning with a slow but heavy bassline, “Ellipse” acts as a perfect introduction setting the attitude for the album. “Fleeting Beauty” brings us fluttering chords amidst a serpentine drone, while the rolling bass of “Unforeseen” sends you into a trancelike state. “Purity” distracts the listener with its raw analog warmth filled with extraterrestrial energy. “Inside of Me,” exclusively selected by Marcel Dettmann for his Fabric 77 mix, followed by “Outside of Me” are both very dark tracks, filled with atmospheric suspense and quaking rhythms. “Beyond” is a pure exemplary of Fixmer’s signature style with an infectious progression sending anyone to the dance floor as “Pallid Light” follows its footsteps filling a bit more radiance into a modern techno sound. “Thoughts” shows another emotion of the album with deeper dub-like sonorities leading to the final track.

Concluding the odyssey is “Elevation,” the most melodic track of the album, beautifully deep, undulating and atmospheric, it is a breath of fresh air that brings one back to reality. Fixmer’s productions have drawn the attention to stimulate individuals in other artistic mediums, as the track was an exclusive selection of Raf Simons to showcase his works for Dior at the CFDA-Awards. Raf has been a very big supporter of Fixmer’s work since his first album in 2001, Muscle Machine.

Passionate of profound mystifying tones that rise and fall, Depth Charged is the epitome of unique expressiveness for Terence Fixmer. With darkness as a companion, each track has come from deep inside the soul; uncompromised soundscapes that promote taking risks.
