[Mix]: Evil Dust – NovaFuture Blog Mix May 2022

DJ:
Evil Dust

Introduction:
Evil Dust was born in Whitechapel in the late nineties, with early inspiration coming from post-punk, punk and witch-house; the project has always embodied the concept of provocation and agitation with a thirst for cursed images. Evil Dust remains mysterious and many tracks are self-released such as the Holograms (Evil Dust Remix) which was featured on SPFDJ’s RA.744 mix for Resident Advisor.

Label releases on X-IMG, Autonome Records and more were followed by the ‘Desolation EP’ on Crave Tapes (featuring a Mind | Matter remix) which paved the way to a larger audience. Tracks from Evil Dust have been played by artists such as Ancient Methods, Inhalt Der Nacht, ANFS, Qual, I Hate Models,Philipp Strobel, VTSS, SPFDJ, Zanias and more. More recently Dust has started playing DJ sets with the last coming in Berlin’s Suicide Club.

Press Info:
What’s a lockdown good for? If any, it allows for time to be invested into making music. For Jehra, his Temasa Geç EP was the result: an outburst, a release of compressed emotions from the last two years that had the whole globe in captivation.

Meet Jehra, one of Istanbul’s techno pioneers co-running RE:VOLT Kollektiv’s techno night and community inviting some of techno’s most interesting names. For his EP, producer friends close to him were invited to help on a track or remix: Sekulahr, EXIX, Daktik, and Belin.

Starting with Emperyel Köpekler made with Daktik, is setting the tone for the EP just right. A big moving bass line is tickled by percussion, progressing into a more filter-open synth churning forward.

Of big kicks no absence. Temasa Geç is the track to get you in the zone with a dirty and contagious pumping acid trick. 3rd from the pack is Ates, turning warehouses inside out like a freight train dancing on its rails. Cahil hits the right string just as good but goes deeper in the atmosphere with an acid touch.
Sekulahr’s remix showcases more refined action of Ates but introduces a cleverly programmed breakbeat with a tight groove. EXIX’s take on Temasa Geç is pure brutal melancholy with apocalypse loop hole vibes. Finishing off with Jehra remixing his own track together with Belin in his Deconstructed Mix of Temasa Geç; a breakbeat teardown of the original tucking you in with a blanket of serenity after having heard all of previous hammers.

Press Info:
Chris Liebing and Drumcell remix Truncate on CLR this June.

With releases on the likes of Blueprint, Mote-Evolver, and his own lauded self-titled imprint, Truncate, aka David Flores, has become renowned for high quality, groove-based techno over the last ten years. Regularly playing at techno institutions such as Movement Festival, Awakenings, fabric, Berghain and many more, Truncate’s jacking DJ sets and productions have won him an army of electronic music fans.

Arriving on Chris Liebing’s CLR imprint, the LA-based artist delivers two high-octane originals, backed with remixes from label-boss Liebing and alumni Drumcell. Leading the release, ‘Intact’ sees rumbling kicks interlaced with textured percussion and trippy bleeps throughout the slick arrangement. ‘User 7’ follows with sharp, rocking drums peppered with spine-tingling synth hits and swung shakers.

Drumcell, fresh from his ‘Severance Check EP’ with Thomas Hoffknecht on CLR, brings beefed up low end and rattling claps for his take on ‘User 7’. Rounding out the release, Liebing himself steps up to remix ‘User 7’, introducing meaty acid lines, crunching hats, and dense FX for a heaving interpretation of the original.
