Info:
Long before Richie Hawtin became what he is today—superstar DJ, mastermind of the Minus label, entrepreneur, technological innovator, style icon—he was best known for a single project: Plastikman.

Between 1993 and 2003, Plastikman created an astonishing body of work, one that didn’t so much define a time and place as explode them, expanding the dimensions of Detroit techno and redefining the possibilities of electronic dance music itself.

Across six albums (Sheet One, Musik, Recycled Plastik, Consumed, Artifakts (B.C.), and Closer) and numerous singles like “Spastik,” “Plastique,” and “Sickness” Plastikman evolved into one of contemporary electronic music’s most distinctive voices: minimalist, psychedelic, groovy as anything, ever mindful of the transcendent properties of pure electronic sound.

Musik is his second studio album and was released on Novamute. Musik was received to wide critical acclaim. It presents both Plastikman’s bass driven ambiance and his stripped down beat experiments.

The album is now re-issued by Mute with the original artwork and remastered audio.

Multi-awarded Plastikman was selected by Mixmag as the Greatest Dance Act of All time in 2012 and Greatest DJ of All Time in 2011.

Recycled Plastik is a mini-album by then-Detroit and minimal techno DJ Richie Hawtin, under his alias Plastikman. It was released on Novamute in 1994 and contains four tracks from previously released 12″ vinyl singles, plus two new tracks.

The album is now re-issued by Mute with the original artwork and remastered audio.

Sheet One was the first Plastikman album, written by Richie Hawtin and released in October 1993 on Novamute Records. The album focuses on laser-precise minimalist rhythms to drive a series of echo-box acid lines that gradually acquire power over the course of lengthy album tracks. Coming out of the minimal techno scene in Detroit, this album makes frequent use of the Roland TB-303, which gained prominence in the electronic music world as a staple of Chicago’s acid house scene.

The front inlay of the album is perforated, giving it the look of a wall of LSD tabs. The cover was so realistic that a man in Texas was arrested when a police officer saw the CD on his car seat after pulling him over on a traffic violation.

The album is now re-issued by Mute with the original artwork and remastered audio.

Multi-awarded Plastikman was selected by Mixmag as the Greatest Dance Act of All time in 2012 and Greatest DJ of All Time in 2011.

out now: Tobias. – Freeze / Perfect Sense [Ostgut Ton]

Artist:
Tobias.

Title:
Freeze / Perfect Sense

Label:
Ostgut Ton

Cat#:
O-TON 57

Release Date:
20th August 2012

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:
01)
Freeze

02)
Perfect Sense

Press Info (English):
Following his debut album “Leaning Over Backwards” on Ostgut Ton last year Tobias. returns with this mighty 12″. After the eclectic mix including aspects of Drone, Ambient, Electro and Techno on his album, Tobias. now shifts all attention towards the dancefloor without disowning his considered style of concentrating on the essentials.

“Freeze” is a darkly shining jewel that scoops its hypnotic energy from a rolling synthsequence. Above it all opens a wide space traversed by enigmatic pads and occasional signals pointing towards psychedelic realms.

Charged by repetition, “Perfect Sense” has a similar tractive force, but turns the inward looking, dark mood of the A-side into a subtly euphoric, outgoing direction that starts to make perfect sense at just the right moment!

Info:
Manuel Años, AKA Psyk, has much to lay claim to within his relatively short career, having already played at Berghain, Tresor and Stockholm’s Fabriken, as well as having himself as a focal point of Madrid’s techno scene. His approach seeks to continually purify and refine his sound, and with “Distance”—his debut release on Mote:Evolver—he melds together new forms of rhythm and expression with the kind of maximal composition and hard energy that the label has honed. The four tracks of “Distance” pulse, pound and thump their way forward while also showcasing a distinct metabolism that develops throughout this varied release.

The A-side, beginning with “Distance”, establishes a direct, compelling energy that’s carried forward by echoing synths that become underlaid with an ever-growing bass. Envelopment is the true characteristic of “Distance” as it compresses its energy, channels it forward and establishes a strong sense of momentum perfect for any number of following tracks. “Isolate”, the A2 track, properly expresses its title with isolated, intense pulses of warped bass that eventually blend into one another to deliver a highly hypnotic, immersive feel. This sense of repetition creates a spiraling sense of progression that hooks onto the listener and draws them in.

“Rndm”, the first track on the B-side, brings in a sense of experimentation as it uses different percussive patterns while it searches for its moment to strike. The dented funk of the main bass line ebbs and flows until it finds its groove and immerses itself in it. On the heels of this comes “Main”, the final track that is no less saturated with energy than all the rest. It’s pure switched-on dance floor thunder, and surges forward with a straight-forward simplicity. As Psyk’s first release on Mote:Evolver, “Distance” establishes the momentum both for the budding Spanish producer as well as for his supercharged productions to come.
