For the second release on his young label, Code Is Law, Moerbeck has brought together four producers who all in different ways converge on the idea of “Wolves”. Eomac demonstrates his exquisite sense for harmonies, Sawf spirals into the convolutions of your brain with his vocal track on “System” and the newcomers Janzon and Hound Scales slip in their take on industrial sounds. Four tracks with emotional depth that create a powerful pressure on your chest that you can’t evade. … the wolves are coming.

The wolf as mystical creature, his idealisation as an isolated, artist of survival or his transcendence beyond the pack as collective structure all lend themselves to highly diverse interpretation. A snarling wolf in comic book style is emblazoned on the cover, provided by friends and fellow artists Drik the Villain (Death Graff) and Cop 81 (Death Graff). Moerbeck selected the four track titles himself which each embodying a unique standpoint from which to view the contribute and their own ways of seeing. It has turned out well for the label owner to unite these different artists, for they blend harmoniously into the over-arching theme of the release. Eomac, also half of the duo Lakker next to his solo project, demonstrates anew his equisite sense for harmonies and lays atop the dry drumming in “Myth of Origins” a melodie that contributes to the track’s pathos, without seeming overdone. For Stuttgart’s Janzon this is his very first release. His track “Run with the Pack” picks up the tempo and unleashes its force right out of the loop. Just like with the other tracks on this realease and with those on codeislaw001: this is techno for listening, with the greatest value placed on emotional depths and harmonies, all the while maintaining dance floor functionality. Sawf pumps in an endless loop and the Athenian drapes “System” over his droney modulations like a mantra. Hound Scales brings in industiral-esque sounds on “Scent of Flesh”. The Brooklyn producer manages to create a track that generates an unsettling atmosphere, the exact origin of which remains concealed to the listener. You can only sense it … the wolves are coming.

Für das zweite Release seines jungen Labels Code Is Law hat Moerbeck vier Produzenten versammelt, die sich der inhaltlichen Klammer “Wolves” auf verschiedene Art und Weise nähern. Eomac zeigt sein hervorragendes Gespür für Harmonien, Sawf schraubt sich mit einem “System” – Vocal in die Gehirnwindungen und Newcomer Janzon sowie Hound Scales lassen industrialartige Sounds mit einfließen. Vier Tracks mit emotionalem Tiefgang und mächtig Druck auf der Brust, denen man sich nicht entziehen kann. … die Wölfe kommen.

Der Wolf als mystische Kreatur, seine Idealisierung als vereinzelter (Über-)Lebensku¨nstler oder die U¨berho¨hung des Rudels als kollektiver Struktur, eignet sich natürlich für unterschiedlichste Projektionen. “Wolves” – die zweite EP auf Moerbecks neuem Label Code Is Law – will jedoch gar keine bestimmte Wertung vorgeben, Titel wie “Myth of Origins” verweisen eher auf den Ausgangspunkt der Legendenbildung. Mit hochgezogenen Leftzen prangt der Wolf auf dem Cover, die im Comicstyle gehaltetene Zeichnung stammt von den befreundeten Künstlern Drik the Villain (Death Graff) und Cop 81 (Death Graff). Moerbeck selbst hat die vier Tracktitel gewählt, die für sich genommen eine inhaltliche Klammer bilden, daneben eröffnen auch die vier Tracks nochmal ganz eigene Blickweisen. Dem Labelbetreiber ist es gelungen verschiedene Künstler auf dem Release zusammenzuführen, die sich dennoch alle stimmig ins Gesamtthema einfügen. Eomac, neben seinem Soloprojekt auch eine Hälfte des Duos Lakker, zeigt erneut sein hervorragendes Gespür für Harmonien und legt über das trockene Drumming in “Myth of Origins” eine Melodie, die dem Track Pathos verleiht, ohne dabei aber überzeichnet zu wirken. Für Janzon aus Stuttgart ist es das erste Release überhaupt. Sein Track “Run with the pack” zieht etwas das Tempo an und entfaltet seine Wirkung bereits aus dem Loop. Bei ihm ist es wie bei den anderen Tracks dieses Releases wie auch schon bei codeislaw001: Hier ist Techno zu hören, der großen Wert auf emotionale Tiefe und Harmonien legt aber die Tanzfläche immer mit im Auge behält. Sawf pumpt im Endlosloop und über den dronigen Modulationen trägt der Athener wie ein Mantra “System” vor sich her. In Hound Scales “Scent Of Flesh” kommen industrialartige Sounds zum Tragen, kein Element sticht da besonders heraus. Der Produzent aus Brooklyn hat es geschafft einen Track zu kreieren, der eine unheimliche Atmosphäre erzeugt, ohne dass man beim Hören weiß, wodurch dieses Gefühl erzeugt wird. Man kann es nur erahnen ….die Wölfe kommen.
