Info:
Recent signings to Mute, S.C.U.M are set to release a brand new single on 18 July 2011.

“Amber Hands”, recorded in London with producer Ken Thomas (known for his work with David Bowie, Clock DVA, The Cocteau Twins, Psychic TV, Sigor Ros, Dave Gahan), comes backed with mixes by Sonic Boom and Silver Apples and exclusive track “Fountains”. Available on 12? and digital download, this is the first single to be lifted from the band’s forthcoming debut album which is due for release on the 9th September.

Based in London, S.C.U.M exploded onto the music scene two years ago with the release of their debut single ‘Visions Arise’. The single, together with their exciting and intense live shows, quickly grabbed the imagination of fans and critics alike. Since then the band have toured extensively across the UK and Europe to a growing fan base.

S.C.U.M are Thomas Cohen (vocal), Bradley Baker (machines), Samuel Kilcoyne (moog), Melissa Rigby (drums) and Huw Webb (Bass). If you like Mute artists of the second generation: Samuel Kilcoyne also known as “Sammy 7” is the son of Barry 7, former member of the Mute act ADD N TO (X). He was also a protagonist of the “underage” scene in London that got a big public attention a few years ago.

The band sounds like a contemporary version of Joy Division blended with the echo chambered pop appeal of Hurts. Dark and majestic.

After supporting The Kills in May, S.C.U.M will play some more shows e.g. at the Mute nights in Amsterdam, Berlin and Paris (see tour dates)

Laden Sie! So laden Sie doch!

Herzlichst

Ihr Gereon Klug

Übrigens: In seiner Freizeit schreibt Andreas Dorau seinen Name gern auf einen Sack Reis.

Press Info :
The debut album of Austra is the result of a long development of Katie Stelmanis, the brain behind Austra. Born in Toronto she spent a lot of time studing classical music. Katie enjoyed, learned to understand and to play the works of Puccini, Debussy, Mozart and Bach. The main goal of their youth was to become an opera singer – always working hard to achieve it.

But at the end of her highschool Katie changed her interested and discovered other genres so she attended her first Punk rock concert and joined her first band. The interest in the music before 1920 faded more and more and the music of the new century gained her intention. To create own music of her well-known epic landscapes she bought some software which allows her to compose music for each instrument and sing above these sounds.

Loving the stuff of Nine Inch Nails and The Knife led her to lend her talent to some Pop bands from Toronto – before she became a solo artist. She released several records under her own name and sang for diverse projects on Vice Records and Matador Records. All followed by a solo tour throughout Europe, a support tour with Coco Rose in the US and some extra gigs.

For Austra Katie’s long term friend Maya Postepski joined the project. Maya already supported Katie on her tours by playing drums. Her eduction in classical percussions has now influence on production and beat programming of Austra. So the songs have more structure. Live gigs are played together with the former bassist of the Canadian Indierock band Spiral Beach.

Finally Austra represent the development of a 10 years long artist carreer – resulting in fantastic debut album “Feel It Break “, which is produced by Damian Taylor (Björk, The Prodigy, Unkle). The album is full of painos just to be joined by dark keyboards parts mulitplied by the amazing voice of Katie.
