[Mix]: Luis Flores – NovaFuture Blog Mix May 2016

DJ:
Luis Flores

Introduction:
Classifying Flores’s sound is a difficult feat, and that is precisely the point. His personality and experience are present in every track he produces, resulting in a dark, groove driven sound. Luis’s interaction with the machine becomes the listeners’ interaction with auditory landscapes of eeriness, altered states and paranoia. A minimal use of elements results in a rich spectrum of textures and a dark and trippy dance floor pull. Live shows, improvisational in nature, can last anywhere from 2- 5 hours, resulting in a hypnotic exploration of the possibilities of electronic production.

In the more than 17 years he has been producing electronic music, Luis Flores has not only made a name for himself but has been at the forefront of a movement that made the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, a hot spot for electronic music production and events. At the center of this movement was Nopal Beat Records, a label he ran from 1998 to 2006. At the same time, he also worked with the city’s cultural bureau to produce a string of massive, free public events that could bring electronic music to a wider group of people and provided a stage for local producers.

In 2007, he returned to the studio focused once again in his techno roots which quickly yielded results like his enduring relationship with L.A.’s Droid Behavior or the demand for his live shows.

In 2009 the release of the “Damage” EP on Droid Recordings, established Flores as an international artist with its immediate success, making the charts of artists such as Speedy J, The Detroit Grand Pubbahs and Chris Liebing’s Best 10 of 2009. In 2010, Dietrich Schoenemann’s Hidden Agenda released “Pain + Prosthetics”, an EP which among other things includes a collaboration with Canadian: Vitamins 4 U.

Flores published “Love Your Machine” under the German imprint Micro.Fon the following year. Further exploring the audiovisual aspect of his music, he created the video teaser for the single using J.G. Ballard’s “Crash” as reference and inspiration.

In 2012 he returned to Droid for the release of “New Flesh” which included remixes by label owner Drumcell and CLR’s Brian Sanhaji. This year was also marked by people’s interest in his sound with remix requests for legendary names like Jam n Spoon and The Advent.

2013 began with his first collaboration with Berlin based producer Material Object and the release of the “Crowd Control” EP under the Impact Unit moniker for the French label Silent Steps and in 2014 he released “Rituals of Submission” on Detroit’s Blank Code, “Test Pattern” EP in the Spring for CLR and the “Metal” remix for Black Asteroid under EDLX.

He began 2015 with the the release of “43” on Alex Bau’s Credo compilation and with his 3rd release for Droid Recordings, the “Static Forces” EP.

Luis has represented México at the Meet in Beijing, ADE in Amsterdam, Borderline Festival in China, Brussels BEMF, in his recent Australian tour, as well as his return to the iconic Berghain club in Berlin during his last European tour.

[Mix]: Subjected – NovaFuture Blog Mix April 2016

DJ:
Subjected

Introduction:
A young boy, faceless in the pallid light, entirely gripped by these machines, source of this brutal black noise. Dark, thundering bassdrums, distorted soundscapes and grooves start to emerge. He lives for the machines. The machines live for him. This is Subjected, an amalgam of darkness, distortion and aggression.

Anomity as a function, mystical without usual clichés. No hiding behind masks, no digging in the past, no techno purism, no strive for fame – SUBJECTED stands for distinctly deep, identifiable techno. Designed in the shadows, to be consumed in the darkness. A label. Music, and nothing more.

Born in Hoyerswerda in 1983 and brought up in the tristesse of Berlin-Hellersdorf, he was strongly socialized by the lower class suburb with its grey, oppressive tower blocks. The first musical attempts he made were in Hip Hop and rap, but it wasn’t long until he started to be aware of all the progress happening in Berlin in the mid 90’s, and got infected by the early club nights in legendary E-werk and Tresor as well as mixtapes from local radio stations. All of this shaped him towards his own musical reinvention. Techno as a possibility of identification, allowed him to find himself. It’s the monotony, the uniqueness of the synthetic sound, that enabled Subjected to express himself – starting as a DJ, since 2006 also acting as a producer. This resulted in various projects and the launch of Vault Series in 2010. Ever since their first major successes, Vault Series are a guarantee for dancefloor-oriented tracks, with highly distinctive concepts and structures of sound.

Max Drake

Introduction:
This is the first edition of a new series on our blog. We want to mix different arts like photography, painting etc with music (DJ set, exclusive tracks…).

Max started with photography 10 years ago being fascinated by landscape and nature images.

Nowadays he is also into taking pictures of urban motives, getting more and more focusses on that kind of stuff.

Photography was his first love, now accompanied by his second passion: music. Today both hobbies are in peaceful co-existance.

The mix given here is a musical partner for the photos, to inspire your imaginary and give you an idea of Max’ feelings while taking pictures of beautiful landscapes, weird buildings & architecture.

Max is happy with life filled with images and music. For sure he has also a daily life studying law.

[Mix]: Psyk – NovaFuture Blog Mix March 2016

DJ:
Psyk

Introduction:
Psyk, aka Manuel Anós, is a solid staple of the current techno scene and doesn’t seem to have gone off course since his precocious artistic ascension. He was first initiated to the mechanical sounds of techno in his birthplace Madrid, through the musical melancholy of Plastikman, and the boiling techno of Jeff Mills.

His sets in the best clubs and festivals all over the world have helped crystallize his DJ talents making him one of the most requested DJs on the circuit. Psyk’s singularity and maturity are constantly present in his music, from Distane’s entraining feverish techno to darker and deeper cuts like Lowdown, Eclipse and Arcade (with reached the top stop on the RA Chart list) all the way through to his widely acclaimed debut album Time Foundation, released on Luke Slater’s Mote Evolver imprint. Furthermore Manuel is regularly mentioned by the likes of Oscar Mulero, Richie Hawtin and Robert Hood as one of the most interesting producers in recent years.
