[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Luca Eck plays C O U P

DJ:
Luca Eck

About the concept:
Here is the eighty-eighth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you Luca Eck’s mix of tracks released on C O U P.

About Luca Eck:
Luca Eck is an 18 year old up-and-coming techno artist from Berlin.

His track selections and productions feature a sound that is uncompromisingly hard, yet deeply emotional. Bright melodies hover above dystopian soundscapes and warping digital textures, a style rooted as much in nostalgia as it is futuristic. The tracks are mixed into highly energetic sets, taking you through an ever-ascending journey to brutal climaxes. Establishing a deep connection with the crowd, he is not afraid of taking unexpected turns in order to create a memorable atmosphere.

Luca Eck has been passionate about creating and experiencing music from an early age on, producing electronic pop music for a few years before transitioning to techno in 2017. He is currently working on his debut EP, set to be released in early 2020.

About C O U P:
C O U P is a fresh movement aiming to promote and spread qualified electronic music by creating true inspiration.

C O U P is a collective of like minded souls who have joined forces for the greater good of techno in anywhere needed.

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Echion plays Nine Inch Nails

DJ:
Echion

About the concept:
Here is the eighty-seventh instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

Today we present you Echion’s mix of tracks produced by Nine Inch Nails.

About Echion:
Echion is an artist based in Austria’s capital Vienna. Early on music’s been his calling and growing up with Thrash Metal, Hardcore and EBM, it is no surprise he started screaming in a Metalcore band. Soon after he discovered his passion for electronic music, especially Techno. Until he decided to leave his band behind for good and to become a DJ. After digging through all the different facettes of Techno and other electronic subgenres, still heavily influenced by his roots, he crafted his signature sound: highly energetic and pounding rhythms cast into raw and aggressive soundscapes. Since then he’s been making quite a name for himself and has already played in the country’s best clubs and venues, sharing the decks with some of the best international artists, such as Marcel Dettmann, Answer Code Request, Cleric, Kobosil, Anetha, Hector Oaks and many more.

In 2018 he promoted his own eventseries “Kredo” at Vienna’s most infamous Antifa Punk venue, Venster 99. Offering a platform for young and aspiring local artists, but also international artists such as SARIN.

Since 2019 Echion’s a resident DJ at Dead Sea Diaries, promoting events at Grelle Forelle and Das Werk, two of the best clubs Vienna has to offer. With the other residents Matt Mor, Cris and Scendet he’s shaping Vienna’s Techno scene and focusing on other future projects.

About Nine Inch Nails:
Nine Inch Nails, commonly abbreviated as NIN (stylized as NIИ), is an American industrial rock band formed in 1988 in Cleveland, Ohio. Singer, producer and instrumentalist Trent Reznor was the only permanent member until the addition of English musician Atticus Ross in 2016.

Reznor recorded the debut NIN album, Pretty Hate Machine (1989), while working as a janitor at a Cleveland recording studio. After feuding with the label TVT Records about promotion, Reznor signed with Interscope Records and released the EP Broken (1992), with a different sound. Albums The Downward Spiral (1994) and The Fragile (1999) were released to critical acclaim and commercial success.

Following a hiatus, NIN resumed touring in 2005 and released their fourth album, With Teeth (2005), to further success. Following the release of Year Zero (2007), Reznor left Interscope, saying the label had “ripped off” fans. NIN continued touring and independently released Ghosts I–IV (2008) and The Slip (2008) before a second hiatus. In 2013 NIN released their eighth album, Hesitation Marks (2013), under Columbia Records, followed by the EPs Not The Actual Events (2016) and Add Violence (2017) and their ninth album, Bad Witch (2018).

Reznor typically assembles a live band to perform with him. The band has varied over the decades, and as of 2019 includes Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Ilan Rubin. NIN tours often employ thematic visual elements and elaborate light shows, and songs are often rearranged for performance.

NIN have sold over 20 million records and have been nominated for thirteen Grammy Awards, winning for the songs “Wish” and “Happiness in Slavery” in 1992 and 1996 respectively. In 1997, Time named Reznor one of the most influential people, and Spin has described him as “the most vital artist in music”. In 2004, Rolling Stone placed NIN at 94 on its list of the 100 greatest artists of all time. They were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014, their first year of eligibility, and again the following year.

Echion About His Choice:
I’ve been listening to the music of Trent Reznor and the people he has surrounded himself with over the years to form Nine Inch Nails for almost a decade now. I started listening to it at a time when I mostly liked it because of the lyrics, which helped me through a lot of dark times. Although back then I could not even remotely understand what a musical genius this man has been. Now that I can also recognize and appreciate Nine Inch Nails for their music itself, I am almost obsessed with their ability to keep on pushing the boundaries and keep on evolving. There is not a single piece of music by Nine Inch Nails I do not value. To me, they have always been a big source of inspiration and influence me until now. That‘s why I‘ve chosen Nine Inch Nails for my mix.

[Mix]: JANEIN – NovaFuture Blog Mix October 2019

DJ:
JANEIN

Introduction:
During his time as a DJ and Producer, JANEIN’s musical career has been akin to the flight of a spaceship. While not without it’s obstacles, the young german artist has been running on full gear unintimidated and has henceforth left big marks on the techno scene like BASSIANI, Distillery, Institut Fuer Zukunft, Blitz Club Munich, ://about blank and TRESOR Berlin to list a few.

Be it by running the SEELEN imprint, dismantling one of the stops on his quickly growing tour-schedule or delivering relentless, trance-tinged techno cuts with a clear nod to pulpy 80’s science fiction. His selection in one of his DJ-sets also shows a particular sensibility to what makes Rave culture, with a unique take o techno spanning modern chugger’s to old school EBM anthems.

About Philippe Petit:
Philippe Petit is originally from Brussels, Belgium, where he started DJing in the early nineties. After spending 15 years in London, he moved to Chamonix, France, in 2010 where he started two vinyl labels: Knotweed Records (2011) and Decision Making Theory (2013). He has a string of techno releases on his own labels, as well as on Rekids, Involve, Figure SPC, EartoGround etc.

He has played at Tresor, Suicide Circus, La Graviere, Batofar, Weetamix, Corsica Studios, and Berghain to name a few.

About Rekids:
Rekids is a UK-based electronic label, conceived in 2006 by James Masters and Matt Edwards (aka Radio Slave). In its relatively short existence, Rekids has quickly become one of the most respected underground labels around – releasing cutting-edge, electronic music that is effective off the dance-floor as well as on it. Some of the key artists represented by the label include Nina Kraviz, Mr. G, Luke Solomon, Spencer Parker, Toby Tobias, James Teej and of course Radio Slave himself. The Rekids sister-label ‘Pyramids Of Mars’ was also launched recently – an offshoot imprint that celebrates more experimental music, with genre-bending input from Vince Watson and Joe Claussell so far. Alongside the label, Rekids hosts parties all over Europe – most notably at Berlin’s Panorama Bar and the Rex Club in Paris.
