Having surprised everybody but themselves last time out with the Drained EP by Shifted, Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver is now ready to drop the gears and put the pedal firmly to the metal with the second installment of Luke’s Planetary Assault Systems “Deep Heet” Series.

Volume 1 of Planetary Assault Systems “Deep Heet”, released in March 2006, signaled the return of Planetary Assault Systems after a 5-year hiatus. The release of this second volume, exactly 5 years later to the day, marks the culmination of Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems tour that began in 2009 with the release of the “Temporary Suspension” album on Berlin label Ostgut Ton.

Comprising three state-of-the-art expeditions into deep space techno, Deep Heet Vol. 2 takes techno back to its primitive roots, adding details inspired by yet-tobe-explored points in the galaxy; only visible from Slater’s Spacestation Ø UK studio.

Sucktion opens the EP in glorious style. The basis being a powerfully hypnotic groove, the track evolves steadily, drawing the listener in completely before revealing its subtle, beautifully powerful, harmonic breakdown.

Mechanical and tense, Pow Wow combines the sonic dynamism of hollow reverberating rhythms with oscillating melodic loops which together create a tightly woven groove that ultimately implodes into a shrill explosion of frequencies

Raid closes out the EP with its shimmering minimalism crafting a calm contrast to the rest of the EP. Pulsing melodies and echoing chimes attract the focus while a heavy flat kick and spurts of firing hats add the necessary dancefloor momentum.

Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver label continues to enhance its enviable reputation amongst the techno ranks thanks to a consistently high quality output from acts whose musical range spans the techno genre. Recent highlights have included peak-time bombs from techno leviathans, Cari Lekebusch and Ortin Cam as well as stunning EP of ultramodern techno from Finland?s Samuli Kamppi; the deep- space-techno of and the slick stylings of Berghain tastemaker, Marcel Fengler.

Having taken a short summer break, Mote-Evolver is back with something very special. Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems alias needs little introduction having been at the very heart of techno since 1993. Taken from the first ever Mote-Evolver EP, GT is remixed and reworked to bring a classic bang-up-to-date.

James Ruskin brings his classic Detroit inspired sounds into the mix; creating a meandering journey of a mix; bringing out all the futuristic, industrial robot-funk of the original, piecing together the elements into one soulful and hypnotic whole.

Function & Jerome Sydenham continue their successful production partnership to create a dark and heavy rework. With both producers styles evident in the mix the melting pot of parts comes together as deep, abrasive warehouse techno.

Fittingly, Slater gets in on the act too, providing his own P.A.S. “Drone Sector” remix; transporting the original straight out of 2006 and into 2010 with all the mesmerizing exquisiteness the original still intact.

Following the Planetary Assault Systems long player (Oton CD09 ), the most recent ouput from veteran electronic music figurehead Luke Slater’s most prominent alias, we continue the exploration into the outer limits with remixes by Al Tourettes & Appleblim, and Deuce.

Perveyors of the UK Dubstep / Techno hybrid, Bristol’s Al Tourettes and Appleblim contort and re-form „X Speaks To X“ into a devious, hot-footed celebration of dark and intense broken-beat electronics. Tight, tensile and direct, the pair intwine suggestions of melody, thick synth patterns and shuddering sub-sonic bass lines around the heavy, morphing groove.

Deuce turn in their relentless yet smoothly rounded version of „Hold It“ by building upon the same foundations that shaped their bass-heavy, purist debut on the label. Droning and phasing to the point of hypnosis, this reduced and pumping tool sums up the energy that drives both Shed and Dettmann during their appearances at Berghain. Honouring the original for its insight and clout, Deuce let the bass energy flow in abundace as their instictive arrangement unfolds.
