Press Info:
SLV’s ‘Berlin. A Portrait In Music’ album on Soma receives a string of remixes from Setaoc Mass, Stanislav Tolkachev, Conforce, as well as a VIP mix from SLV himself.

Hailing from Berlin, SLV is well respected for his melancholic sound design and crystalline soundscapes having released on labels like Ilario Alicante’s Virgo and Slam’s Soma. Following the release of SLV’s ambient ‘Berlin. A Portrait In Music’ album, Slam’s iconic label has invited a powerful selection of techno producers to reimagine a handful of tracks; Figure, Clergy and Work Them Records producer Setaoc Mass; Ukraine’s master of mind-bending techno, Stanislav Tolkachev; and also Delsin regular Conforce.

‘Dust’ by SK_Eleven founder Setaoc Mass brings melodic flare with enveloping synths above dark rumbling lows, before SLV’s injects some energy into ‘Talking With The Shadows’ with his own Rave Mix.

incorporating moody tones and slow flowing arps with dark cavernous reverb. Krill and Mord artist Stanislav Tolkachev then offers a steady beat with euphoric chimes and vinyl hiss for his stripped back ‘First Day In The City’, preceding Dutch artist Conforce’s ‘Forest Voices’ which balances unearthly sound design and a steppy drum pattern.

Press Info:
Berlin’s SLV returns to Soma this February to present a full-length ambient album entitled ‘Berlin Portrait In Music’.

Stemming from the heart of East Berlin, German producer SLV has picked up a number of influences on his musical journey whilst living amongst electronic music culture from an early age. Having steadily built a reputation for himself for diving into the realms of melancholic sound design, reflected in previous releases on Ilario Alicante’s Virgo label and Soma, his ‘Berlin Portrait In Music’ sees him add to his long list of Soma contributions following the recent standout ‘Athenæum 101’ LP from label bosses Slam themselves.

‘First Day In The City’ sets the tone right from the off with hypnotizing keys, emotive atmospherics and alleviating sound design, whilst ‘Sky’ follows suit as it balances drones with otherworldly soundscapes. ‘This Cold Night’ and ‘Forest Voices’ delightfully maintain the stirring ambience throughout as tranquilizing vibrations take the focus, before ‘Mirage’ and ‘Dust’ deliver heartwarming oscillations layered with captivating sonics.

Dark but uplifting moods are later conveyed within ‘Night Stars’ and ‘January 31’, journeying through arousing aesthetics from start to finish. ‘Talking With Shadows’ then harmonises between deep, syncopated drums and low strung synth stabs until eloquent chords balanced and angelic pads together display a poignant aura in ‘Melancholy Dreams’. ‘Away’ then elegantly rounds things off with tender strings, alluring melodies and moving elements.

Press Info:
Berlin based SLV makes a welcome return to Soma with his latest release, Gestern und Heute EP. Having gradually built himself to be one of the most exciting prospect on the Soma roster, SLV continues to impressive with his dark yet emotive sound. This release also feature a spectacular remix form rising UK Techno act Cleric.

The melancholic Artefact opens the EP with its wonderfully crafted syncopated beats and cold, haunting synth work. Kreuzwege has SLV back on four to the floor territory and working a real dance floor burning as tweeked out leads are bolstered by typical powerful drum work from SLV. Jets keeps things moving at a fast pace yet brings a more emotive side. Intense percussive workouts drive the tracks with fleeting pads taking the tone of the tracks to other heights. Cleric takes on Artefact are delivers a suitably punchy and furious rework yet still retains the melancholy of the original.

Another unique release has SLV standing out from this crowd with his distinctive sound.

Press Info:
Soma proudly present the first in an exciting series of releases to celebrate 25 years at the top of electronic music as we turn to some of our favourite modern artists to reinvent some of the best from the back catalogue and up first is Envoy’s timeless classic, Dark Manoeuvres. Originally released as part of the “Coalition EP’ in 1996 (which also featured the classic Seawall), Hope Grant’s instantly recognisable hit is still found in nearly every Techno DJs record box and has continually served as a beacon of Soma since it’s release Four new versions are served up here as Dax J, Norman Nodge, Obscure Shape & SHDW plus Tensal all deliver fine interpretations of this Soma classic.

Dax’s furious style is the opener as he uses the original chords as they were intended but all the time firing his concussive drum patterns directly to the dance floor. Ostgut Ton’s Norman Nodge turns in a delectable dub version in only the way he can by keeping Envoy’s original muted and delivering a subtle, introverted version. The duo of Obscure Shape & SHDW are next up and delivery one epic take on Dark Manoeuvres. The pair build the tension early, teasing the strings then unleashing an onslaught, adding their own beautifully led, string section before hammering home. PoleGroup’s Tensal closes out our first Soma 25 releases, twisting and cutting the hook to suits his means as thunderous beats work away behind this solid tool.

With much more on the horizon, Soma has their gaze fixed firmly on the future of Techno.

Press Info:
Monoloc returns to Soma in the form of a special remix package that sees 2015’s ‘Gipson Ep’ reworked by Slam, Lucy and SHDW & Obscure Shape. Monoloc carefully selected his remixers to breath new life in to his fantastic debut release on Soma with superb results.

Soma label heads Slam turn in a brooding, menacing version of title track Gipson. Staying true to the original’s heavy and atmospheric vibe, the Glaswegian duo keep it stripped back and pounding. Stroboscopic Artefacts boss, Lucy steps up with his more experimental take on Cupel. The dubbed out atmospheres of the original take on a new life and Lucy leans hard on the electronics and delivers a broken beat, tweeked out trip. Relative newcomers SHDW & Obscure Shape round off the EP with a big, bold reinterpretation of Gipson. Thundering bass drums, hypnotic synths hooks and and an epic use of the original’s pad create a fairly ferocious end to the EP.
