Info:
Anonymity as function, without dressy mystique or the usual clutter of clichés. No makers hiding behind masks to escape celebrity, or past, or simple recognition. No purists. No activists. No no-nonsense. Just a quiet presence making strident, statement-free techno—because the dance floor is enough. This is Vault Series. Raw, powerful, punishing dance music delivered in covert—not for covert’s sake, unpolluted by tacked-on concepts or even track titles. This is distinct and deeply identifiable techno, conceived in the shadows to be consumed in the dark. A shared sound aesthetic, attained through individual routes. A collective. A label. Just music, and nothing more.

Relinquishing biographies and the usual promotional faff, Subjected and his two Vault Series cohorts Mørbeck and Sawlin have been steadily rising to prominence on the strength of their music alone. Since setting up Vault Series in 2010 as an independent platform for the trio’s shared sonic vision, the label has fast become a go-to for consistently gratifying basement-ready club music. Defined by its industrial hues, distorted edges, thundering basslines and a resolutely floor-focused disposition, the Vault Series sound is both unique and pertinent, separatist without introspect, and containing an awareness of context whilst following its own divergent trajectory. After twelve EPs that have continued to refine the message with an ever-widening bed of nuances, comes the first full-length release from the collective’s mastermind and chief Subjected.

Without compromising Vault Series ethics, ‘Zero’ is a concept-free and entirely frill-less dancefloor album that vends the label’s recognisable trademarks over ten advantageously assaulting tracks. Opening with swirling, ominous storm clouds on “M”, the album unfurls with signature Subjected textures and foreboding atmospheres, propelled by pistons and the steely functionality of solid industrial-facing frameworks. Resounding basslines growl throughout, reaching new depths on the dub-toned “Concept 3” and pealing “Rancor”, with clanging machinery and crushing distortion characterising tracks elsewhere, such as “SD1” and “VX800”. From warm up (“TG33”) to peak time (“Boom Boom”), hypnotic build (“Tool 1”) to broken technoid close, ‘Zero’ exhibits versatility and club-consciousness with design flair and intriguing craftsmanship. Welcome to the Vault.

Info:
Raw analogue alchemies delivered with all the sleek and polish of its black-on-black casing made Bryan Black’s EDLX debut last year as blackasteroid a truly memorable one, consolidating all of the Motor man’s proven Paisley Park-honed engineering capabilities into a succinct and forward-facing EP. Defined by its gritty textures, fizzy white noisemanipulations and a signature mechanical hum throughout, ‘Black Acid’ achieved a uniquely tactile sound quality, reaffirming Bryan Black as a formidable one to watch under his revised blackasteroid guise.

Recently Perc, Alva Noto, Len Faki, Angel Costa and DJ Emerson presented a series of pithy reinventions of the EP’s three lead tracks: “Black Acid”, “Hydrogen” and “Pressure”, turning in a thoroughly versatile remix package complete with fresh nuances ranging from peak time basement material to more pensive headphone moments. A recomposed body of original ‘Black Acid’ sonic material, once more sheathed in stunning minimalistic design—this time in reverse: white on white, with contrasting materials (matte laminate on the cover and a high gloss UV varnish in the detail) providing the sole differentiating factor.

This particularly considered art direction was the result of a creative collaboration between Bryan Black (a designer himself and responsible for the bulk of Motor’s artwork), Jochem Paap and EDLX designer Jan Willem van den Ban from Enchilada. Choosing to diversify from the usual colourfulness and moiré structures of EDLX, the monotone colour palette and minimal aesthetic sets these pieces apart as highly collectable art objects, meanwhile rendering the blackasteroid project in a very physical, very personal way—thoughtful design in both sleeve and sound.

In Jan Willem’s words: “To mimic the dark and powerful tracks with sounds emerging and submerging, the sleeveshows all the shades of black possible. The design of the ‘Remix EP’ has a similar visual parallel with the music; in the way the remixes are deconstructed and reassembled from the source material, the artwork reworks the same variables and puts them together in a different mixture. The result is a minimal and monolithic object, that reflects differently from every angle and forms a logical and rock solid pair of releases.

Press Info:
Traversable Wormhole returns to CLR after a huge success in the techno scene with the digital releases and remixes of volumes 1 – 5. The present offering on CLR contains all songs from volumes 6 – 10, originally released on 12“ vinyl only.

The first anonymously produced ink stamped vinyls under the mysterious guise Traversable Wormhole appeared in the global techno scene in spring of 2009. At this time nobody knew who was behind the project and the mystique continued to grow with each new record until volume 6, when Adam X finally revealed himself as the creator of the much hailed productions in a Resident Advisor interview in 2010.

One crucial anecdote which eventually led to the digital releases and the massive remix project on CLR took place at the Berghain club in Berlin, where Adam met Chris Liebing and asked him about some highly positive remarks he had made about the mysterious act on Twitter. Chris immediately guessed that Adam was the originator of those tracks and insisted until he actually had to admit it – making Chris one of the very first persons to know the key to the mystery. It´s quite significant that this conversation took place at the Berghain, as it was the club and its infamous residents that originally inspired Adam X to write this music.

The story of Traversable Wormhole is the remarkable story of a well-known artist who successfully bypassed all possible preconceptions by just bringing out the music he wanted to hear in his favourite club under a new and unknown moniker. The concept worked smoothly, as he had the complete scene stunned and wondering about the origin of this exiting sound from day one. He had instantly convinced everybody with innovation and quality, even those who might not have given him as the artist Adam X a proper chance at this very moment. It´s simply one of those stories of doing the right thing, the right way, at the right time.

Needless to say that the quality of the tracks continued to be consistently excellent and the genre-crossing mix of straight-up, post-modern techno and industrial music beyond trends and hypes works just as well in the present volumes 6 – 10 as it did in the volumes 1 – 5. Stripped-down, sci-fi laden productions with unconventional beat structures, bass, rhythm and noise – a formula that has in one way or the other always been the essence of Adam X´s artistic output.

The latest endeavors from Traversable Wormhole will now be available for the first time on digital format. Included in this digital foray of sound will be a full length CD of all the latest TW songs mixed by Adam X. CLR is very exited to present you this new chapter of one of the most striking tales in the recent history of techno.

Press Info :
„HD“ can be described as Atom™‘s electronic quintessence: a blend of pop, electronic abstraction and powerful grooves – an invention Atom™ stands for and which was popularized through previous releases, classics in the electronica genre, such as „pop artificielle“ and others. Here is what the artist says:

As so often I was asked to say and write something about the recording you are currently having in front of you: „HD“. To any musician this is no doubt a complicated moment, since the choice of medium had already been taken in the first place: music. However, it seems that the written word needs to accompany the music, if not just to make sure the composer knows how to defend himself. Let me be frank, in the past this has been a rather ungrateful job, due to the fact that words either seem to appear like a method of justification or explanation of something that in my modest opinion doesn‘t need either one of the two. In the same sense in which „Liedgut“ wasn‘t about romaticism and „Winterreise“ had nothing to do with Schubert, „HD“ isn‘t about anything I‘d wish to express in a lengthy text or would like to see you being able to pinpoint or sell with a flashy headline. In order to get done with the headline, apart from the rather descriptive details I will dedicate my time to in an instant:

HD is a spiritual work

HD is a musical work

HD is a scientific work

The first recordings for „HD“ were made in 2005. Back then the album still carried another title which was „Hard Disc Rock“. The initial selection of songs for „Hard Disc Rock“ was of course a very different one, and while the years passed by most of those songs which did not continue to please, were one by one replaced by newer compositions (in fact the track „Stop (Imperialist Pop)“, which entered the album around 2009, does contain a fragment of an Atom™ track from 1998 called „Hard Disc Rock (don‘t stop)“.) All of the „early“ tracks for the later re-entitled „HD“ album necessarily were subject to profound changes in music and words, and I can say that by the time around 2012 „Hard Disc Rock“ had completely transformed into something else, which is pretty much what you got laying in front of you right now. „HD“ contains a couple of contributions by friends and colleagues such as Jamie Lidell (main vocals on „I love U“), Alva Noto (additional programmings on „Ich bin meine Maschine“), Marc Behrens (additional programmings on „Strom“ and „My Generation“), Jean-Charles Vandermynsbrugge (main vocals on „Pop HD“). Dominique Depret (guitars) and chilean pop star Jorge Gonzalez (backing vocals, guitar and bass raw material) – a diverse selection of guest musicians which very much reflects the general spirit of „HD“
