The next EP in Blueprint’s 25th birthday series sees another collaboration for label head, James Ruskin. Following EPs alongside both Truncate and Mark Broom, this time Ruskin teams up with DVS1 for ‘Chapter One’.

Back in 2016 the label was celebrating its 20th anniversary and the release of the ‘Structures and Solutions’ compilation which featured their track, ‘Page 1’. As one of the highlights of the compilation, it received multiple plays on BBC Radio 1 and a place in Resident Advisor’s Top 50 Most Charted tracks during its month of release.

Taking the hugely atmospheric ‘Page 1’ as their starting point, they continue with 3 more fully immersive techno “pages” to create this full EP.

James Ruskin will be joined by DVS1 at the 25 Years of Blueprint night at fabric on Saturday 30 October, alongside Regis, GiGi FM, dBridge presents Black Electric (Live), Machine Woman, Skee Mask, Zenker Brothers and Billy Allen.

Cressida has carved a space in the hollows between UK bass culture and Berlin’s techno heritage, skilfully siphoning the finer side of breakbeat, garage, grime without ever falling into lanes of predictability. This sonic identity he’s built has firmly levelled up with »Can You Sleep Like This« – his most personal record to date.

»Semtex« is a technoid hybrid landing somewhere between UK drill and smoked out basement club gear – future-shock junglist tension gliding over tectonic sub plates. »Same Dance« taps into Cressida’s London roots, with distant echoes harking back to the darker side of Burial and a bassline conjuring up DMZ at their most direct. »Veranda« could be the most poignant Cressida in his discography so far, built around neatly carved mellow-fx chords and a swung broken beat, without losing the formidable punch he’s made a name for.

»Can You Sleep Like This« locks into the kind of deeper & dynamic UK funky Roska first emerged with, swimming in vaporous vocal and jazzy chord flickers, before it swerves into early 90s warehouse breakbeat nostalgia. »Purple Hayes« rounds out the record on a fittingly skyward note, with filtered post-rave pads and a tightly clipped 2 step beat.

This is Cressida not just paying an ode to UK electronic music lineage, but cementing a place within it.

Celebrating ten years of his vital Truncate imprint, David Flores aka Truncate recruits techno royalty James Ruskin and Luke Slater for a set of hard-hitting remixes alongside two of his own originals for the 22nd release on the label.

Operating under his Planetary Assault Systems alias, Slater turns in three remixes of ‘First Phase’ across the EP, with each interpretation distilling his decades of experience into equally functional and engaging techno jams. Truncate’s original mix of ‘First Phase’ blends shuffling percussion, oscillating low-end, and tweaked out synthesis for a pumping, no-nonsense cut.

‘The Eve’ sees the Californian DJ/producer bring trippy leads, crunching claps, and tricky FX processing together for a mind-bending jam. Taking no prisoners, James Ruskin’s remix is a no holds barred peak time track, marrying detailed stereo wizardry and rumbling bass with evolving modulations throughout.

Primarily an outlet for his own productions, Flores’ Truncate has become a touchstone for quality, groove-based techno over the past ten years. While winning an army of techno fans, the label has also won plaudits from house DJs for its more jacking and groovy releases. Running parallel to the label’s success, Truncate has also become one of the most bankable techno DJ/producers around, appearing on a broad range of well-regarded labels as well as regularly playing techno institutions like Movement Festival, Awakenings, fabric, Berghain and many more.
