Werewolf Disco Club

Press Info:
The kick cuts through the trees like a scythe, calling out to her, drawing her closer. It comes from every direction, the purr of the bass slipping through the forest like low-hanging mist.

The primal, metronomic pressure of the beat enmeshes with his lycanthropic howl. The sound is everywhere, and impossible to get a fix on. It rains down from on high, sticking her cloak to her skin and slicking his fur. It rises from the earth, seeping between her toes.

Within this secret glade, they meet, alone except for the rotting leaves and creeping moss. Here they become one, disparate egos dissolved in a cocktail of chemical impulses, dopamine responses and the instinctive urgency of the sound that surrounds and consumes them.

On the second single on his Disco Inferno label, I Hate Models exudes the mysterious, ancient power of the werewolf, and invites you to join him in one last dance.

out for a while: Carl Finlow – Obscura EP [Fanzine Records]

Carl Finlow

Obscura EP

13th December 2019

Format:
vinyl, download & streaming

Tracklist:
A1.
Gains

A2.
Black Ice

B1.
Expose

B2.
Obscura

Press Info:
As his best known alias – Carl Finlow has dropped yet another electro masterpiece on the Spanish label, Fanzine Records.

Expect an EP full of transformational, industrial like synths combined with the electro rhythms that Carl’s career has come to define. His gated melodies and groovy hard-hitting drums make this EP something ethereal, with raw and industrial sounds swarming in and out of every track.

Gains is the first track of the EP, which instantly teleports us back into the world of electro. The warping melody of gated synths gives the impression that the track is the embodiment of metamorphosis. Black Ice’s melody is a lot more raw, where the track almost sets the stage for a dystopian battle between animal-like reverbs and echoed chants. It ends with a more ambient melody which overcomes the track in its aura and mood.

As the EP moves on to Exposé, the grizzly baseline, succinct hats, and distorted and sharp synths give the effect of malfunctioning terabytes; almost as if the natural elements were to react with an electronic environment. Obscura’s beat seems to bring the speed of the EP right down, as it’s mystical melody is obscured from the gritty baseline and kick. It’s mechanical and distant sounds lurk in the background of the track, which gives a sense of oncoming doom.

This EP can be described as no other than a symphony of sounds that energetically communicate with each other at every level. An impressive industrial take on the electro sound.

Obscura is set to be released on Fanzine Records, December 13th, 2019.

Press Info:
A Marcel Dettmann record? On Seilscheibenpfeiler? Yes, we know that some folks out there probably figure that Marcel and the boys from Modeselektor exist in totally separate universes, but they’ve actually all been friends for more than two decades now. Moreover, they’ve also been studio neighbors for many years, so hanging out together and playing music for each other has long been part of these guys’ regular routine. And while Marcel is best known for his Berghain residency and his many releases on Ostgut Ton (not to mention his own eponymous label), he did contribute a handful of tracks and remixes to 50Weapons back in the day—including a full EP back in 2011—and more recently, he’s done a couple of reworks for SSPB too. Simply put, he’s part of the family, and it was only a matter of time until we convinced him to do another record for us.

SSPB018 has been in the works for quite some time, and one of its tracks (we’re not going to tell you which one) dates all the way back to 2008. While putting the EP together, Marcel was in the mood to do something totally focused on the club—which explains why all four of these tunes are primed to do some dancefloor damage—but the record also reflects (or at least hints at) his lighter, more colorful side. “Command” pairs its thundering kick with a slithering, sci-fi melody, while “Enter” dials up the mayhem with buzzsaw synths and hair-raising, larger-than-life vocal that could have been lifted from a local haunted house. “Return” is a booming techno rumbler, but it’s also one of the most infectiously bouncy tracks we’ve heard all year, and then there’s “Control,” a club smasher that also sounds like a trip to an 1980s arcade.

If all this sounds like a lot of fun… well, that’s because it is. It’s not often that Marcel does a record for us, so when it does happen, we’re obviously going to make sure that everyone has a good time.
