UK rave, hardcore and jungle legend Force Mass Motion is back on his own self-titled label with another of his explosive dance floor weapons.

Force Mass Motion, aka Mike Wells, is rolling out tunes at a high rate of speed and consistency. He has been doing so for decades having been right at the heart of the UK’s rave and hardcore scene since he started producing in 1989. His essential catalogue takes in all that and more, such as nu-school breaks, another sound he helped to pioneer. He has been associated with key labels over the years from the likes of Lot49 to Kingsize Records to Colin Faver’s seminal Rabbit City Records imprint. Now he is back on his own crucial label.

‘Piece Of Mind’ is a caustic fusion of bristling percussion and twitchy synths with crunchy drums. A breakdown is unexpectedly emotive, with thoughtful melodic lines making for a moment’s reflection before the heavy technoid drums bang again. It’s a timeless and knowing mix of UK dance history in one potent tune.

This is another essential and indelible production from the peerless Force Mass Motion.

The rave, breakbeat and hardcore legend Force Mass Motion, aka Mike Wells, continues his run of new material with the single release ‘R-iVAC’, an exploration into the more melodic and progressive house side of his influences.

Given the UK producer’s acid-driven techno and hardcore background, its no surprise to hear a nagging 303 underpinning this deep, house groover but it’s the dense arpeggiated synths and pads that make ‘R-iVAC’ stand out from the crowd.

Discovered in the early 90s by the legendary Colin Faver, who ran the equally revered Rabbit City Records, Wells went on to release a string of influential releases for the label that, in 2021, are still the toast of the era. Never one to stay in one place, Force Mass Motion was also heavily involved in the NuSkool Breaks scene, releasing raucous tracks for the likes of Lot49 and teaming up with Dylan Rhymes for the melodic/progressive influenced ‘Silencer’ project. The past few years have seen Wells making his classics available whilst working on new material that ranges from epic breakbeat sounds to trance infused house.

Legendary UK rave/hardcore/breaks pioneer Force Mass Motion drops a dynamic breakbeat cut entitled ‘Hung Drawn and Slaughtered’ via his eponymous label.

Force Mass Motion, aka Mike Wells, was instrumental in many of the UK’s nascent scenes, notably of the UK Rave, Hardcore and the early 00s nu-skool breaks movement. Wells has been producing music since 1989 and was discovered by Colin Faver, who ran the legendary 90s label Rabbit City Records. Throughout the 90s, FMM took the scene by storm, releasing a string of records on the catalogue before launching his self-titled imprint, and continued to release music prolifically.

FMM’s latest single, ‘Hung Drawn and Slaughtered’ showcases his prowess for producing powerful dancefloor anthems as the twisting synths and zappy melodies bounce smack bang off the belting breakbeats throughout the cut.

Originally released on Rabbit City Records as a CD collection taken from the first batch of EP’s on Rabbit City. Remastered and offered by Mike Wells on his own FMM imprint. Definitely one of my all time favourites from 1992, Force Mass Motions early work was very distinctive. A sound that owed a lot to how Mike Wells sourced a lot of his sounds. Listening to and taping Kiss FM and sampling it. With a home built sound card his brother made an Amiga was the centre of the studio. All the music was mixed down through an old Broadcast desk using a few clever delay line tricks that give the music a lot of depth. Very distinctive, totally original the music was caned by all the DJ’s.
