Press Info:
Starting as an imprint solely for Perc’s own productions Perc Trax has grown in recognition and confidence each year since its first release in 2004. This year Perc Trax celebrates its tenth year of existence, during which time it has released over seventy vinyl singles and six albums, hosted showcases as far away as New York and Tokyo and recently spawned the Submit and Perc Trax Ltd. sublabels.

To celebrate a decade of releasing music Perc Trax looks to the future, releasing tracks from a mix of Perc Trax regulars including Truss, Forward Strategy Group, Sawf and Perc himself and names new to the label such as Clouds, Happa, Kareem, Drvg Cvltvre and Martyn Hare. These new tracks will be released as three separate vinyl EPs and will also form part of a 2xCD album. The first disc containing the new tracks, whilst the second disc is home to Perc’s first commercially available DJ mix.

Accompanying these four releases will be an international tour running through the winter of 2014 and into early 2015, climaxing with Perc Trax’s biggest ever London event in February. As with all recent large scale Perc Trax projects the label is once again working with designer Jonny Costello, the man behind the visual identity of Perc’s albums and both the Perc Trax sublabels.

Press Info:
The Index expands into its fourth chapter with a rich collection of tracks from key label artists Marcel Fengler, Thomas Hessler, Echoplex and VRIL.

Label co-ordinator Marcel Fengler drops ’Scion’ on the A1, a non-typical, deeper House-influenced jam with a floating, mind-melting soft-focus. Abstract, crafty Techno meets classic Sunday-afternoon vibes in this unique offering.

After his wonderful 4-tracker on IMF003 promising talent Thomas Hessler continues his run with the melodic and stark journey track, ‘The Escaper’. What is initially shrouded in mystery and melancholy soon opens up into a funky, US vs. UK-styled workout, snapping snares and reduced percussion driving the meandering synth theme.

Echoplex, who graced IMF002, also returns with a suitably trippy and percussive number, entitled ‘The Relapse’. Building into a bleepy, freaky, acidic killer, complete with some cleverly deployed rave-vocal samples, filtering in and out of the fluffy aesthetic, the long-serving Polish master is still on top form.

Going for impact and stand-out sound design, VRIL offers ‘Thronwagen’ – a mesmerising arrangement of synth layers, classic Techno stabs and overlapping themes. Already well-known for his powerful drums and bottom end control, this more musical piece goes a long way to showcase some of the German producer’s many other talents.

Info:
The fourth transmission from K209, the Berlin-based label from Grounded Theory founder Henning Baer and Do Not Resist The Beat! head Milton Bradley, showcases the individual production talents and unified collaborative strength of two of Berlin’s leading techno artists.

Distributed exclusively via Hard Wax since its founding in 2011, K209 releases music from Baer and Bradley in various guises. With Baer’s “Sleeper” taking cues from hiphop’s boom-bap and Bradley’s “Divergence” showcasing stringy, heads-down techno, K209-4 highlights the pairs ongoing skill in merging multiple experimental, industrial, and traditional electronic forms. Equally memorable are the gasping electro of Baer’s “14 Vac,” and the stringy broken beats of Bradley’s “Beat 992.”

K209-4 builds in intensity and tempo over five tracks, ultimately feeling like the ideal vinyl representation of a well-paced Grounded Theory club night.

Press Info (English):
New York City-based DJ, producer and The Corner label owner Anthony Parasole makes his debut on Ostgut Ton with three new percussive-heavy Techno tracks on the My Block EP.

“Percussive music, that’s my ground, my foundation but I am missing the feeling of tribalism in Techno today. I’ve been using a lot of different drum techniques over the past years, implementing them to Techno. The record ‘Quickstrike’, that I’ve released on my own label The Corner, was an edit record of an old sample-based house release. To me this was a test if people would gravitate to this sound and it was the biggest record on The Corner so far. From there I knew I could do this and two tracks off my new EP on Ostgut Ton work like this: ‘Typhoon’ features bongos, congas and all kinds of skin percussion, ‘My Block’ uses a different kind of percussive color.

HipHop in general and the Cut-up technique in particular have also heavily inspired me as a producer. During the 1990s music seemed really profound – a little bit tougher too. I listened to a lot of HipHop when I was writing the music for this new release and applied its methods to my own music. Many producers at that time were very forward-thinking. Wu-Tang Clan’s RZA uses a sixteenth note technique that made me realize that I wanted this kind of hypnotizing sound to work in a Techno format. Another big influence were late 1970s Horror movie trailers. I was watching them while I was working on ‘Bizarre’ in the studio, I was inspired to capture the eerie tones and textures of those short clips in ‘Bizarre’.

At the end of the day I work within certain parameters. Everytime I make a sample, I drop it into my personal folder – so all my music has a similarity of up to 50 or 60%. Maybe I’ll use the same drumkit or kickdrum. I apply limitations to myself, but doing this also gives me my own voice. When I was learning how to produce, Levon Vincent taught me to make my own drum kit, to make my own synth kit and to work within this. Sample-based music is inspiring, and creating something out of found sound is very interesting to me. I think a sound signature is something that will always refine ones sonic pallet and skill set.”

– Anthony Parasole, Berlin, September 2014 –

Press Info (German):

‚My Block’ benutzt eine andere Art perkussiver Klangfarbe.

B2)
I/Y
Thesys 0000.003

Press Info:
The second release of Inkblots involves three great artists deeply active into the international techno scene: the japanese Go Hiyama and the Berlin based duo I/Y.

On Side A, Go Hiyama’s first track ‘Recur’ delivers sinister atmospheres matched with a tough kick and industrial bleepy elements. Slow and paranoic drones get in and out contributing to enlarge the sound perception. The second track ‘Prop’ introduces elegant hi-hats and strident synths. A captivating kick perfectly embraces the shrill synths waving together with the sharp drum; what remains of the first side is just tense ambients, forewarning the journey is not over.

Side B smells like a dark club firing up, indeed I/Y’s aim is not different at all. ’Thesys 0000.001’ debuts with a thin bassline and distorted grave surroundings. The track evolves with clean slap hats sound in an empty echo chamber. Deep timbres rise and fall, turning the entire route gently aggressive. The second track is an IDM experiment which keeps a trippy approach and the clarity of claps and hi-hats. Solid as the first one, ‘Thesys 0000.003’ sets itself as an hypnotic but pleasant moment where suspicious fragments quickly appear and disappear: a sparkled trip to be enjoyed anytime but not by anyone.
