Statica

Press Info:
With 3ct at the commands, DRVMS LTD explores the outer fringes of its sonic spectrum. Aurora 7 is gritty, loud and raving. It builds compressed spaces, claustrophobic, that raise the adrenaline. The heart races with the beat. With a beautifully fast pulse throughout, the EP opens in a feverish aural expression progressively gets a more melodic spirit, gently guided by bells and spectral synths.

The EP opens with the title track Aurora 7, probably the meanest track of the lot. There an electric atmosphere that floats around each sound, making it contagious with energy. Glitches, noises, bleeps, distortions, and shifts pitch, tempo or pattern give the track a feeling of sober anarchy, in which chaos manifests its apparently paradoxical sensibility.

Baptism enters the dark rave dimension. The bass is muffled, lurking from somewhere undefined. The tracks seeks its origins; the atmosphere gets denser, darker, claustrophobic. A dry kick creates a vacuum in which an acid worm frantically moves, fat but fast.

In Sense, Aurora 7 takes a turn. It’s the most emotional track in the whole EP, and not just for the wise, meditative voice of Alan Watts. There’s the sophisticated sound of the bells, delicate against the violent hats; and the spectral synth which together with the creative work of reverbs and delays elevates Sense to an almost spiritual experience.

Statica closes the session back at the dirtier sounds. Alarming sirens and innocent bells this time looping in spiral, in an out of focus. Down the hole it takes us, hypnotising. There’s an underlying tension, a sense of urgency in the beat with drone infusions that stays in the background until the very end of the track like the racing heart gaining presence in the nightmare as we’re about to wake.

Aurora 7 is a journey into a very personal galaxy, full of conflicting gravitational forces with such creative energy that in the process of being made it recreated its own the author and Marco Lonero’s new moniker, 3ct was born. A great addition to the DRVMS LTD catalogue, Aurora 7 EP is a powerful 4-tracker tool for the peak hour.

Press Info:
Ekserd’s techno label Ressort Imprint returns for the second instalment of its two-part series ‘More Cuts On Loving’, this time inviting the likes of I/Y, Luis Flores, Denise Rabe, Glos and Array Access.

The Berlin-based platform was launched in 2013 and has since established a discography spanning Stranger, Gonzalo MD, The Plant Worker, Border One, Lee Holman and Strck. Dropping in 2016, Part One demonstrated the heavier end of techno whilst Part Two is angled towards a more abstract aesthetic.

German duo I/Y sets things into motion with ‘Memory Loss’, an atmospheric cut loaded with intricate nuances and echoing effects before Droid and Blank Code’s Luis Flores drops a low-end heavy number with sinister stabs and metallic synths named ‘Moral Divide’.

ARTS and MUTEWAX producer Denise Rabe’s ‘Return Of The Dash’ is next, a syncopated slice of techno possessing a medley of ominous elements before returning Ressort artist Glos serves up double-time kicks, dusky pads and otherworldly qualities.

Tying it all together, ‘Love Is Distraction’ by Array Access is a menacing cut with its sullen drones and subtle melodies.

out now: Planetary Assault Systems – Deep Heet Vol. 4 [Mote-Evolver]

Artist:
Planetary Assault Systems

Title:
Deep Heet Vol. 4

Label:
Mote-Evolver

Cat#:

Release Date:
13th October 2017

Format:
vinyl & digital

Tracklist Vinyl:
A1.
Desert Races

A2.
Life Rhythm

B1.
Random Kingdom

B2.
Lazer Organical

Press Info:
Since 2006, the Deep Heet series of recordings has shown the public an especially distinctive side of the production work of Planetary Assault Systems. With a unique ‘engine room’ ambience and a focus upon maintaining a continual surge of pure energy, each volume in the Deep Heet collection has lived up to that title, subtly suggesting the kind of sustained and voluntary temperature rise that has traditionally given way to spiritual or visionary experiences. Just check out tracks such as “Flat Tire” from Volume 3, with its hard percussive edge accompanied by a pervasive hiss like boiling matter changing into gas. P.A.S. helmsman Luke Slater also thinks highly enough of this series to re-work tracks like “Whistle Viper” in recent live sets, or to offer up others (e.g. “Raid”) for remixing by Mote-Evolver allies.

It’s only appropriate, then, that the 50th overall release on Mote-Evolver should also be the fourth overall volume of Deep Heet. In keeping with Slater’s recent forward-thinking self-assessments like the “Planetary Funk” anniversary series, this is simultaneously a summary of past successes and another new evolution in style and content. This new set of four highly concentrated cuts shows how effective Planetary Assault Systems can be at fueling the imagination by fusing together rhythmic and incidental elements into a unified, animated meshwork, without even a prominent melody to help out. For example, on the compelling track “Lazer Organical,” listeners will find themselves in the midst of a testing range where thick arcs of coherent plasma ricochet off of the walls.

Deep Heet Vol. 4 also showcases Slater’s aptitude for choosing just the right moments to deviate from a steady groove: on the mesmerizing bubblebath of “Random Kingdom,” he allows listeners to sink into the rising sonic foam before interjecting with some sharp metallic hits. The leadoff track “Desert Races” proceeds in similar fashion, weaving a web of luminous sequencer patterns around the listener before and cutting in with sudden fluctuations or distortions that function like a hypnotist’s suggestions after an entranced patient has become fully responsive. “Life Rhythm,” on the other hand, is a total immersion session in which Slater’s presence seems to recede into the background and listeners themselves may begin imagining overtones and sonic ephemera that weren’t programmed into the original track.
