Press Info (English):
Over the past four years, Hayden Payne aka Phase Fatale has earned a reputation as a techno innovator, both for the broad spectrum of dystopian electronics included in DJ sets as well as his deep understanding of synthesis and sound design in his own productions. Having previously released on labels such as Jealous God, Payne made his Unterton debut with last year’s Anubis EP. Since then he has settled into residencies at both Berghain in Berlin and Khidi in Tbilisi, released his first LP on Hospital Productions and kicked off his own label BITE with a collaborative EP between himself and Silent Servant.

On his debut 4-track EP for Ostgut Ton, Reverse Fall, the New York native has sharpened the rhythmic contours of his productions, creating an imposing wall of sound within the techno framework. Inspired in part by Crash, J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel on the fetishization of car crashes, Reverse Fall is uncompromising motorized, cybernetic techno – infused with haunting soundtrack-like flourishes reminiscent of films by directors John Carpenter and Dario Argento.

The night drive is audible from the get go on the EP’s title track, accelerating and swerving at the pace of a dark, melodic bassline and distorted hi-hats. From there, the lumbering tempo, drone and teeth chattering sonics on “Incision” (A2) suggest twisted wreckage. “Blackbox” (B1) picks up the speed with whip-crack snares, rim shots and bursts of distortion, while EP closer, “Empty Whip” (B2) offers a more spacious groove, where staccato synth lines flash across the stereo image, punctuated by the sounds of metal-on-metal.

While Reverse Fall is a slight departure from Payne’s previous releases in its concentrated focus on techno, it’s this focus that is also the EP’s motor.

Just Keep Going
(Anja Zaube Remix)

Press Info:
He Bleeds Stories EP” is the first vinyl release on VRAAA Records, a techno label with the aim of queer-up the genre. The title track is a pounding peak-hour techno piece with a solid build-up, and dramatic strings. The second original track, “Just Keep Going” goes into a more acid, hypnotic and darker direction. Both original tracks contains elements from Projekt Gestalten’s past original productions clashing with new sounds and being incorporated into a whole new context; like pieces of different stories scattered throughout the music and reconfigured into a brand new tale. Each track was remixed by projects with contrasting gender identities: the heavyweight techno duo I/Y, representing the masculine side and the fabulous German selector Anja Zaube, giving a feminine perspective. Unfortunately, the I/Y project is parting ways and this is their last official release being put out.

Esferas

Press Info:
Knowledge Recordings is proud to present another young prospect from Cuba, this time in the form of Hioll. As a part of the Abstraction crew alongside Åre:gone, Hioll is aiming to build a strong scene in his hometown. For this release he presents 3 powerful tracks that merges big-room character with hypnotic soundscapes.

Opening track ‘Tunnel’ wastes no time in introducing a heaving kick and bass pattern with rhythmic percussion to lead the way. Rich in texture and atmospherics, a subtle bleep sequence emerges as the track reaches its main break. Thereafter its business as usual as the track ebbs and flows towards its outro. In similar fashion to ‘Tunnel’, title-track ‘Paranormal Activity’ opens with thumping low-end and rhythmic rim-shot percussion. As the track increases in energy, another bleep sequence variation emerges and carries the listener through the rest of the intense, cerebral journey. Closing out the package is ‘Esferas’, a subtler composition that incorporates dub elements and a modulating synth-line with eerie background fx.

Press Info:
S-File delivers his OFF Recordings debut.

Having started his career in 1994 he’s sure to be one of germany’s longest serving techno artists.

The pack kicks off with Escape. A stripped back techno tool with a rolling groove and a spacy sinewave lead.

Down And Out moves into rougher vibes, overdriven drums and a hypnotic acid theme make this a perfect peaktime tool.

Trespass offers a deeper hook, but complements it with energetic and punishing drums.

Finally, Breakaway closes the EP with a galloping synth lead that’s sure to create dancefloor destruction.
