In times such as these, it is imperative that we swiftly come together as a community to stand in solidarity with the oppressed and amplify the voices of the unheard. The time for action is now, and musicians have a responsibility to acknowledge and pay tribute to the rich heritage of the music we hold so dear. Therefore the Unrush team has asked friends and collaborators to contribute some stunning musical works to the first edition of The Unrush Files. Entitled “Rush of Communion”, this various artists compilation embodies a collective effort to support those who are fighting at the front lines, risking everything to facilitate lasting and meaningful change in a fundamentally unjust society.
All proceeds from this compilation will be donated to the Detroit Justice Center, which is a national nonprofit organization that pays bail for people in need, reuniting families and restoring the presumption of innocence. This essential work can not be understated, as police have arrested more than 10,000 peaceful protesters who were speaking out against systemic racism in response to the killing of George Floyd. It is only when we work together, by both looking inwards and lending our efforts outwards, that we can begin to manifest a new world built on the principles of equality and justice.
