Info (English):
Moby is one of the most innovative and individual forces in electronic and popular music today. He has sold over 20 million albums, headlined Glastonbury, and is back with arguably one of the best albums of his career, Innocents.

Moby chose to make this record with a stellar cast. For the first time in his career he worked with an outside producer, friend Mark “Spike” Stent, whose résumé includes Madonna, U2, Muse, Björk, and Massive Attack. The list of eminent collaborators on Innocents includes Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips), alt-rock legend Mark Lanegan, Cold Specks, Skylar Grey – best known for co-writing and performing on Eminem and Rihanna’s Love The Way You Lie; indie-folk singer Damien Jurado, and Inyang Bassey who was the vocalist on The Right Thing from Destroyed. He has named them the Innocents.

“I guess I just accept that the music business has fallen apart,” says Moby, describing the unexpectedly fruitful environment that spawned his upcoming album, Innocents, set for release October 2013. “That demise means that, as a 47-year-old musician, when I make a record, it’s simply because I love making records – I don’t expect commercial success. There’s no reason to second guess whether something’s going to sell well, or if a radio programmer is going to like it – so I can just make the record I want to make.”

Indeed, that’s exactly what Innocents entails. Moby’s 11th studio album to date proves an uncompromised, fully realized work from one of the most iconoclastic, innovative, individual forces in electronic music – or popular music, period. As such, Innocents proves distinctively a piece with Moby’s discography, while simultaneously pushing the artist born Richard Melville Hall towards new challenges.

The Erasure Christmas Radio Show (Recorded Live Inside The Snow Globe)

festive tree bauble, desktop calendar, postcards, a signed Christmas card

Info (English):
The first taste of Erasure’s new album, Snow Globe, out on 11 November 2013, is here in the shape of a beautiful trailer, created by Martin Meunier (whose credits include James & The Giant Peach and Coraline). Featuring Erasure’s version of ‘Silent Night’.

The album will be released on CD and as a Limited Edition Deluxe Christmas Box Set. The box set includes 3 CDs plus an exclusive festive tree bauble, desktop calendar, postcards and a Christmas card signed by Vince and Andy with much more to be announced (full tracklisting below)

Produced by Erasure, Gareth Jones and Richard X, Snow Globe is a collection of original compositions and seasonal classics, and follows 2011’s album, Tomorrow’s World.

The first single, ‘Gaudete’, Erasure’s take on the traditional Latin carol is released on 16 December.

When the 28-year-old songwriting partnership that is Erasure met up in Vince Clarke’s Brooklyn studio to start work on the new album, they both approached the familiarity with a little nervousness. Soon enough, the telepathic, connective and alchemical magic of song-writing fired both their imaginations once again.

In Erasure, they both say, they have the ability to do what the other cannot in facilitating a fleshed-out musical vision. ‘I told Vince I wanted the music to sound like shards of ice or snowflakes falling’. Vince paired all the music of songs he worried might be over-familiar back to their route chord and fleshed nothing out, with carefully aggregated synthetic punctuation points, making a spare, brittle noise that speaks of Erasure’s incredible ability to move listeners from the simplest of places. ‘It sounds quite odd,’ says Vince, delighted at the leftfield result of what could’ve been such a mainstream pursuit. ‘But always with us melody is at the heart of everything.’

Unlike the bells and whistles, glitter and tinsel sets that crowd the market come Christmas-time, Snow Globe is possessed of something more in the wistfully, strangely subdued celebratory mould of recent seasonal albums by Tracey Thorn and Kate Bush.

The award-winning songwriting duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems of the ‘80s, ‘90s through to today. Songs like ‘A Little Respect’, ‘Sometimes’, ‘Victim Of Love’, ‘Ship Of Fools’, ‘Blue Savannah’, ‘Star’, ‘Chains Of Love’, ‘The Circus’, ‘Who Needs Love (Like That)’, ‘Love To Hate You’, ‘Drama!’, “Always” and “Breathe,” ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums (including The Innocents, Wild! and Chorus) and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival, ‘Abba-esque’.

Info (German):
…This Christmas, Make It Wonderful…

Not For Design

Info:
Following a slew of acclaimed releases on Left Blank and Tri Angle, as well an album with the muchlauded Young Echo collective, Vessel debuts on the burgeoning Liberation Technologies imprint with three diverse cuts of inimitable off-kilter electronics.

‘Misery Is A Communicable Disease’ serves as a euphoric opener, primed for moments of escapism on or off the dancefloor with resonant hats and an exultant synth line laid bare upon a bed of gauzy pads and valve-warmed kicks. VMI is a different beast altogether, channelling the visceral spirit of minimal wave and punk aesthetic to create a sordid call to arms before the frenzied acid and lingering menace of ‘Not For Design’ closes the record in typically deranged fashion.

Info:
After a sustained period of enviable productivity, renowned producer Mark Fell arrives on Liberation Technologies to further carve out his own singular vision of left-field electronic music.

After reviving the SND moniker with long-term collaborator Mat Steel in 2008, and releasing a slew of singles under the Sensate Focus guise, it’s here that the mind behind recent sound installation ’64 Beautiful Phase Violations’ delivers his most visceral work yet, melding angular electronics and skittering rhythms into a sonic palette that is undeniably his own.

Treading an equally as distinctive path throughout their illustrious career, Japanese experimentalist Eye (Boredoms) contributes his own vision of ‘Parts 1-7’, an inspired pairing that’s offered up as a free download in advance as a tantalizing glimpse into the forthcoming record.

Press Info (English):
Remastered and available here on vinyl for the first time since Mute’s reissue in 1990, Red Mecca features the line up of Richard H Kirk, Stephen Mallinder and Chris Watson, and is Cabaret Voltaire’s third album, and the final full album with co-founder Chris Watson.

Red Mecca was produced at Western Works, Sheffield, and, although rioting at this time hadn’t reached Cabaret Voltaire’s hometown, it was a particularly incendiary time across Britain and the tension was explicit through the news media. Explains Kirk, “that insurrection on the streets found its way into the music” and the album was seen by many as the alternative soundtrack to the unrest on the streets.

With Middle Eastern musical influences and a title that reflected the beginnings of long running tensions stemming from the Islamic Revolution and the resulting Afghanistan conflict and rise in fundamentalism, the buried vocals and large instrumental passages are a wonderful bridge between the punkier ethos of earlier releases, Mix Up and The Voice Of America and the more dance minded 2X45 and Yashar EPs that followed.

Inspirations on the album were varied, but these tensions were particularly highlighted by ‘A Touch Of Evil’, which bookends the album and was itself was inspired by the Orson Welles film Touch of Evil (1958) and the soundtrack by Henry Mancini. For ‘Spread The Virus’, the inspiration came from William Burroughs and northern soul while CB became another, initially unlikely sounding, inspiration. CB radio was important at the time as an alternative method of communication. Says Richard, “we were thinking about doing a pirate radio at that time, which never happened, but buried in the sounds before ‘Red Mask’, are clips of CB radio transmissions.”

Red Mecca is an intriguing snapshot of a band continuing to experiment and evolve, different enough to anything of theirs before or after, and very different to whatever the rest of the planet was producing at the time (or since).

Red Mecca was remastered by mastering engineer extraordinaire Stefan Betke (Pole), who also works with Third Ear, Minus, Wagon Repair, Uncanny Valley, Ornaments, BPitch Control, K7 and mastered the VCMG project for Martin Gore and Vince Clarke.

Press Info (German):

The insurrection on the streets found its way into the music”, sagt Kirk.

CB-Funk wurde eine weitere, unwahrscheinlich klingende Inspirationsquelle: „CB radio was important at the time as an alternative method of communication“, fährt Kirk fort: „We were thinking about doing a pirate radio at that time, which never happened, but buried in the sounds before ‘Red Mask’, are clips of CB radio transmissions.”
