About the concept:
Here is the seventeenth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

About Tham:
Tham, 24, is one half of the SYNOID crew and resident DJ of Griessmühle, Berlin. As he got to know this music through the dancefloors in a lot of different clubs, his style of DJing is about the dancefloor with driving industrial & acid soundscapes with many layers, loops & long transitions.

 

About Klockworks:
Klockworks is a German techno label, founded by Berghain resident Ben Klock in 2006. On his own label Ben releases under the moniker Klockworks but also signed artists like DVS1, Etapp Kyle, ROD, Trevino and other. He just celebrated the 20th catalogue number with the release of a compilation containing 3 separate double 12 inch.

Tham About His Choice:
Klockworks is one of my favourite record labels as its releases leap from raw and minimalistic up to banging acid sound textures. As the styles of the tracks are very different at least also housy. The similiarity is more about the way it’s made. Everything about it seems nearly unfinished and raw, which is giving the label a completely own character. This also made it a task to play only Klockworks stuff – especially in the way I usually mix. I tried to keep it simple and just used my personally favourites of the whole discography.

[Mix]: THNTS – NovaFuture Blog Mix October 2017

Introduction:
Just recently THNTS has discovered electronic music, before he was mostly interested in Hardcore, Black- and Doom-metal. A record collector and enthusiast he especially appreciated the created atmosphere. Soon he began to find the similarities in atmosphere and sound also in experimental kinds of techno. His DJ-sets resemble this development: sometimes driving, sometimes dreamy, but always telling a tale. After 1,5 years of involvement in the apathy crew he was a founding member of the new project ESCH which was born in the beginning of 2016.

Introduction:
Amsterdam-based DJ/producer and founder of the Format label Juan Sanchez has been considered a crowd favorite for years in the international techno community. Promoters across the globe have already called on Juan’s signature sound: stripped-down, powerful techno designed for peak time hours at mainstages as well as more intimate settings. Juan has performed in a wide variety of venues and festivals including Berghain (DE), D-Edge (BR), Club4 (ES), Shankeys (Ibiza), Awakenings, HYTE and Time Warp, to name but a few.

Aside from performing, Juan is frequently on studio lockdown, having released numerous cuts on labels such as Stockholm Ltd, Wolfskuil and Drumcode Ltd. amongst many others.

Furthermore, Juan also curates his own label Format Records. Its releases have seen warm welcomes from artists worldwide, including Ben Sims, Speedy J, Oscar Mulero, Luke Slater, DVS1, Laurent Garnier a.o.

With plenty of gigs and new projects lined up for 2017, including a special various artist LP on his imprint, Juan continues to push techno boundaries.

Introduction:
Philipp Drube is a Berlin based artist and resident of the Ismus series. His sound focuses on straight forward Techno combined with Ambient and Electro, encircled by Dub, Trance and Acid elements. Starting with running own events in Hamburg around 2011, he moved to Berlin in 2013 and became part of the Ismus collective in 2015. Subsequently, he gained experience playing at clubs like Tresor, About Blank, Griessmühle, Suicide Circus or Arena Club in Berlin, and Uebel & Gefährlich or PAL in Hamburg.

[Mix]: Janzon – NovaFuture Blog Mix September 2017

Introduction:
Janzon’s discovered his passion in music and DJing during a school project in 2007 when he decided to produce his first album. Since then he improves his skills, and influenced by IDM, Techno, Leftfield and other genres he developed his very unique sound. In 2013 he met Moerbeck who was searching for artists for his new label “code is law” at that time. Janzon contributed a track on the label’s first sampler among artists like Sawf and Eomac. A year later, Janzon released his first solo EP “The Primal Scream”, followed up by “Twisted Dust” in 2015.

Since 2014 Janzon is resident at the “Lehmann Club”, the home of one of the most innovative Techno Clubs in Germany.
