Press Info (English):
In the afterglow of rave’s white heat, the mid-90s were a period of going as far out in all directions as possible – and Luke Slater’s The 7th Plain tracks were certainly about exploration of the deep space of the imagination. Cosmic, analogue, orchestrated, they still represent some of the most emotionally intense music ever to come out of the techno realm. Whether built on percussive frameworks or sweeping nebulas of dissipated sound, Slater’s synthesizers still sing space-travelers’ tales compellingly and beautifully.

For this reason, Ostgut Ton sublabel A-TON launched back in 2016 with The 7th Plain’s Chronicles I, establishing itself as a platform for archive, ambient and art-related releases. This first eight-track compilation was split between classics from the albums My Yellow Wise Rug and The 4 Cornered Room on the one hand and previously unreleased tracks on the other, with the goal of providing a different, remastered framework for Slater’s futuristic visions from the past.

Now, with the release of Chronicles II and Chronicles III, as well as a special edition vinyl boxset, the journey continues further into outer and inner space. Like its predecessor, Chronicles II is divided between previously released material from the aforementioned albums, as well as four unreleased future classics: “Silver Shinhook”, “Wand Star”, “I Think I Think Too Much” and “JDC”.

In contrast, Chronicles III is made up solely of music from the General Production Recordings label catalogue and stylistically skews less toward percussive techno-funk and more toward free-form broken rhythms – though tracks such as “Lost”, “Time Melts” or “Millentum” stand strong as hybrid pillars of both.

Ultimately, when listening to all three parts of Chronicles, it’s apparent that 7th Plain music is cut from the same emotional cloth, one related strongly to the backroom, the chillout, the after-party, the solo headphone voyage. These weren’t and never should be considered separate zones from the dancefloor.

In other words, as Luke Slater puts it, in the mid-90s, they were “part of the night, part of the experience… where ideas could be shared.” And like Global Communication, Mira Calix, The Future Sound of London, the Artificial Intelligence generation, Slater’s 7th Plain was a response to those hallucinatory, spiritual, but still social spaces at the heart of underground communities – and the magic is still strong in it.

Aside from the special vinyl boxset (6×12“ LP), which includes Chronicles I – III, limited edition stickers, an essay by Joe Muggs and a complete download code, all releases are available individually on CD, 2xLP and for the first time in digital formats.

Press Info:
Stroboscopic Artefacts is releasing its latest addition to the forward leaning edge of electronic music with the Totem series, unfurling as a chain of transparent 10” vinyl, each of them having their own subtly divergent takes on the aesthetic space defined by techno and club culture. The Totem series continues investigations previously established by Stroboscopic Artefacts, namely the relation between sound and material object, spatiotemporality and the architecture of music. The Totem series aims collapse the artist, their intention and resonance with the public into one object, an artifact of beauty and functionality, the transparent 10-inch which becomes an emblem. In choosing a less common format for the Totem series, Stroboscopic Artefacts aims to reinforce the cognition that each of these pressings is a unique object, carrying a message that will develop as the record’s existence moves through space and time.

The second release to be pressed into Totem’s slabs of 10-inch vinyl is from techno impresario Luke Slater’s L.B. Dub Corp moniker. Slater has been operating as a pioneer, with a full deck of aliases, throughout the genre’s many corners since the days when techno was a newborn phenomenon. The stripped back sounds of L.B. Dub Corp’s last releases on the imprint have resounded naturally within the psychotropic space carved out by Stroboscopic Artefacts. The “Roar EP” injects a carefully measured dose of dance floor adrenaline, getting a gradual rolling start with its A-side “Roar”. A hypnotically simple drum machine pattern lulls us into a state of quivering vulnerability where Slater’s tweaking of the reverb and decay on the one spare saw-toothed synth element creates a kind of minimal rapture that’s enveloped by an unforeseeable boiling of tape delay and ambient space. The B-side reserves the best of what makes dub and techno friends-with-benefits. “Hard Wax” is a hard- nosed amalgamation of a hand full of dirty analog sounds that Slater deftly weaves in and out of each other. The track’s ovular syncopation of machine grit and off-beat accents give the feel of an AI drum circle rising from tomorrow’s post-industrial ashes. B2, “Sure Step Dub”, keeps the machine minimalism rolling, while living up to its name as a guaranteed dance floor spinner. Once the track’s 808 wood block and clap staple the tracks template to the listeners’ skull, the hi-hat and wobbling synth create the parameters of what becomes a bubbling party soundscape – complete with hooting vocals and a sudden ecstasy rush of strings. Full of surprises and eloquent minimalism, L.B. Dub Corp’s Totem release is going to give listeners plenty to ponder when imagining what’s to come next from the series.

Press Info:
May sees Luke Slater return to his Mote-Evolver imprint under his L.B.Dub Corp guise with an album entitled ‘Side Effects’.

Reflecting on a career spanning three decades, Luke Slater is a true dance music legend. The British producer has not only been pivotal in the rise of techno but his work continues to play a vital role in driving the genre forward, particularly under his Planetary Assault Systems name. Following its launch in 2006, Slater’s L.B.Dub Corp moniker has been responsible for refreshing house music on labels like Mote-Evolver and Ostgut Ton, with the latter hosting the pseudonym’s debut album in 2013. ‘Side Effects’ is the project’s first body of work since then.

“I wrote the tracks over the last year between being on the road as P.A.S. and playing a few L.B.Dub Corp house sets, which naturally evolved into ‘Side Effects’ almost accidentally” – Luke Slater

Crashing stabs and a rolling hook inaugurate the album in ‘Reel One’ before the meandering ‘Night Time Hawk’ demonstrates effervescent effects and bursts of white noise. Commanding kicks and a moody bassline make up the robust ‘Edge 7’ whilst ‘IELBEE’ exhibits a bouncy aesthetic complete with intricate melodies. ‘Float When You Can’ is dark and ominous from the off but an echoing note sequence adds a glimmer of light, making way for the reverberating mechanics of ‘Bass Machine’ before leading into the ghostly and twisted ‘Forever In A Day’. ‘LBEES Jam’ is the most lighthearted track on the album with its twinkling lead melody, moving into a soulful and vocal driven affair named ‘See The Light’ until things get dusky and percussive in ‘We Are Going Home’. Finally, Slater rounds off the release with the intricate snaking cut ‘Calling The Spirit’.
