Info:
Mote Evolver kicks off 2014 with Future Modular EP from Luke Slater’s Planetary Assault Systems alias, presenting sharp-as-ever fresh sound of P.A.S. that has enticed the audience as long as the mighty ‘Systems’ have existed. Never a stranger to a forward thinking sound aesthetic and with a title like ‘Future Modular’, P.A.S. packs the EP with 4 tracks (with digital-only ‘Subtracted Mix’ of the title track) that spark with Futurism and tightly channel the energy at the tip of the boiling point.

The title track sets the tone of the EP – positively powerful and playful – with its groovy bass drum and acid infusing an ample dose of funky rhythmic variations. But it wouldn’t be P.A.S. without the thrilling tension that locks you in, “Riot in Silo 12” on the B-side slips into the darker side, keeping the hats just below the surface and layer by layer uncovering the electrifying suspense throughout the track. “Serc” pops open with the bursting energy of kick drum then takes you to the uncharted realms of cold minimalistic drops reminiscent of early Sähkö purism, and masterfully brings a variety of moving elements and textures into dynamic captivating techno.

Future Modular is yet another top form techno EP full of ideas and dimensions from P.A.S., a superb successor to the constantly floor-stirring his previous No Exit EP to offer kinetic prowess that never diminishes.

Not only is 2014 going to be packed full of exciting Mote Evolver releases, but also legendary techno producer and label head Luke Slater will be kicking off his regular radio show, Spacestation, exploring the fields and minds of techno. Welcome To The Spacestation Episode 1 is now available for you to check out, featuring unreleased tracks! www.mote-evolver.com/radio

Info (English):
Luke Slater’s L.B. Dub Corp alias makes a welcome return to Ostgut Ton. After the 2010 released “Take It Down (In Dub)” EP this second 12“ also announces the release of the “Unknown Origin” album which comes out on Ostgut Ton in November.

On the three tracks for this EP L.B. Dub Corp digs deep inte the history of dance music, the euphoric early days of house make themselves apparent on “Turner’s House” and are combined with tribal dub elements on “Nearly Africa Dub”.

Benjamin Zephaniah, arguably the UK’s premier wordsmith, lends his wit and wordplay to “I Have a Dream”, together with L.B. Dub Corp’s treatments they catch the listener unawares. Zephaniah undercuts the closed-down thinking that plagues politics and the us-and-them thoughts that can creep into rallying speeches. Together they create a surreal hymn for our pluralistic times.

Info (German):
Luke Slaters L.B.

Info:
Luke Slater’s most well-known pseudonym Planetary Assault Systems is back in the fullest swing with ‚No Exit‘, a standalone EP following his famed ‚Deep Heat‘ installment series. ‚No Exit‘ unmistakably bears all the hallmarks of Planetary Assault System, from mind-tripping and floor-stirring hypnotic energy to the theme of pushing the outer limits of unknown territories.

The EP kicks off with the title track, at its first breath of rolling beat already infusing an ample dose of psychedelic madness, which only to be intensified with the layers of digital chime tones that are constantly multiplying and shape-shifting.

“Undertow” on the B side continues with the signature warping and reverberating bells and bleeps but this time with enticing hi-hats and distorted bass, gradually all melting into one big sinister groove.

The last track of the EP “Nanendi” might fool you in the beginning with its minimalistic beat, but as soon as the demure yet ominous veil of melody – beautifully moody and almost spooky at times – starts humming and howling, it’s well on its way to make a deep, haunting emotional connection while keeps the tension boiling.

Without a doubt ‚No Exit‘ EP is the one that shows the most distinctive core DNA of Planetary Assault Systems and much like his seminal album The Messenger, it’s a deadly unique, dazzling, and powerfully effective work that will stand the test of time.

Press Info:
Ostgut Ton presents “Unknown Origin” the debut album from Luke Slater’s L.B. Dub Corp moniker. The ten tracks recorded at Spacestation Ø form a hymnal intent on transporting you back to the roots. Digging deep into the history of dance music, “Unknown Origin” dares to ask the big questions and offers no easy answers. Instead, deep spiritual dubs are side- by-side with slices of piano house, and handsome slabs of techno contrast with the words of the silvertongued poet Benjamin Zephaniah.

In L.B. Dub Corp’s capable hands this examination of what has gone before is in absolutely no way nostalgic. These are tracks informed by the past and rooted firmly in the present. The euphoric early days of house make themselves apparent on “Turner’s House” and the jubilant “Nearly Africa”. They are also the key to the building piano line on “Ever and Forever”. But house’s ability to sooth a mournful soul is far from forgotten and “No Trouble in Paradise” should be kept close when everything’s far from blissful.

Through “Unknown Origin” L.B. Dub Corp makes it clear that his dub influences don’t stop at its rhythms, but extend right into dub poetry. Benjamin Zephaniah, arguably the UK’s premier wordsmith, makes two appearances on the record. He lends twisted turns of phrase to the swung, sensuous opener “Take a Ride”, and returns at the album’s mid-point to fill “I Have a Dream”’s synthesised arcs with wit and word play. Zephaniah’s words and L.B. Dub Corp’s treatments catch you unawares, and this is why they’re such a fantastic pairing. “I Have a Dream” undercuts the closed-down thinking that plagues politics and the us-and-them thoughts that can creep into rallying speeches. Together they create a surreal hymn for our pluralistic times. Equally there’s just as much wisdom to be found in the smooth samples on “Generation to Generation” as there is humour.

Amid the speculative, introspective moments of “Unknown Origin” there is no shortage of tracks to detonate dance floors. “Anytime will be OK” is a grooved masterclass and “L.B’s Dub” operates at jittery high-octane. The record draws to an almighty close with “Roller” featuring another formidable figure, Function. The low-sung, pitch-black “Roller” provides the menacing last twist in the tale, a firm techno cut to end a record which traces dub to its roots and celebrates the heritage of house.

Tracklist:

03)
Turn

04)
Flat Tire

Info:
Planetary Assault Systems presents Deep Heet Volume 3, the third instalment of one of Luke Slater’s most seminal series to date on Mote-Evolver and carrying on the series of intergalactic exploration.

Voltan rips the EP open. Inspired by the Mayan god of drums and the earth, Voltan is underpinned by primal desires. Huge bass drives the track forward and an angry undercarriage whirls deep below. Peppered with snares and licks of white noise, the EP starts as it means to go on.

Pygar’s futuristic sound palette is utterly hypnotic. Loops are layered insistently and despite the 4/4 structure a disorientating soundscape emerges. Filled with sounds that could just as well have been sampled from a space station as coaxed from a synthesiser, Pygar is optimised for the chaotic afterhours.

On the flip side the abstract references are abandoned in favour of the concrete. Turn erupts with syncopated rhythms, metallic rasps and mechanical warning signals. It’s the stuff of industrial nightmares.

Flat Tire is built on an angular bed of noise and interspersed with low, deep rumblings. The track fans outwards as ecstatic details are layered one upon another, ensuring that the EP closes on an enduringly hypnotic note.

Planetary Assault Systems has created four tracks that don’t play by the rules. Deep Heet Volume 3 is Luke Slater yet again innovating with four tracks that fuse together the experimental, the bold and the brutal.
