[Mix]: CEO Of NovaFuture – 45 Minutes Of Techno

DJ:
CEO Of NovaFuture

Introduction:
The story about the CEO Of NovaFuture is strongly connected with the British band Depeche Mode and the label Mute. It started in the late 80ies when his brother already forced him to listen to Depeche Mode at the age of 8 years (living in one room) but it took years until he became a true Mode fan himself. In 1993, now fully flashed by their music, he bought the first album right on release date, “Songs Of Faith And Devotion”.

The singles for this album contained a few remixes with technoid sounds – a direction for the 12”s they have already started earlier and then continued e.g. in 1997 with interpretations by Andrea Parker, Speedy J, Hardfloor, Motorbass & Plastikman. As he liked these remixes but hated what people on mainstream tv called “Techno” he wanted to know more about the remix artists. While doing the same information digging for bands like Nitzer Ebb, Nick Cave, Fad Gadget and others coming from the “gothic scene”, another influence from his brother, one name popped up again and again: Mute Records and its sublabel novamute.

So he discovered and explored the very interesting and diverse roster of Mute and its sublabels like novamute & Future Groove by buying more and more stuff of bands like Renegade Soundwave, Goldfrapp, Moby, Erasure, Luke Slater or the ones mentioned above but also his general interest in techno grew. With developing some fan websites he got in touch with a few techno guys and other people working for labels so getting connected with music scene and being a part of it.

Some day Georg Bigalke of “45 Minutes Of Techno” asked him if he wants to join the series with a special Depeche Mode mix. For sure he did – using many remixes of well-known techno artists. He also made a small teaser video telling his story – for that he “produced” a special edit of “Strangelove”.

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: CEO Of NovaFuture plays Mute

DJ:
CEO Of NovaFuture

About the concept:
Here is the fiftieth(!) instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you the boss’ mix of tracks released on legendary label Mute and its sublabels.

About Mute:
Mute was founded by Daniel Miller in 1978, and since then has signed and developed some of the world’s most influential recording artists – including Depeche Mode, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yazoo, Goldfrapp, Erasure, Moby and Richard Hawley – and become home to a crop of emerging talent and recent signings such as Josh T. Pearson, Big Deal, Beth Jeans Houghton and S.C.U.M.

Whilst maintaining a firmly eclectic roster, from the earliest days of The Normal, Fad Gadget and DAF through to the techno era with artists such as Plastikman / Richie Hawtin and Speedy J, and to the present day with hybrid electronic artists such as Yeasayer and S.C.U.M, the label has always been a champion of electronic music.

Mute also looks after a catalogue of seminal electronic artists such as Can and Cabaret Voltaire.

Founded in 1978 Mute celebrates its “anti-versary” this year.

Check also the lecture the CEO did a few years ago.
