‘Inside The Microbeat’ is the long-awaited debut album by Sync 24.

London’s Phil Bolland, known as Sync 24 has been flying the electro flag for over two decades via his popular Scand parties and beloved Cultivated Electronics label which he launched in 2007 as a direct response to the dwindling electro scene in the UK at the time. The label has gone on to feature many of his own releases, his collaborations with the likes of Silicon Scally (Carl Finlow), DMX Krew (they collaborate as MMT-8), The Exaltics and Morphology as well as playing host to many of electro’s leading lights, eventually becoming instrumental to the scene’s resurgence in more recent years.

Now it’s time to turn the spotlight firmly on his solo work. Across it’s eleven tracks ‘Inside The Microbeat’ is not just a collection of 12”s although tracks like the album’s name sake, ‘Oriental Sunset’, ‘Drunk on Delays’ and ‘Lightwire’ are firmly primed for the dance floor, there’s also more experimental beat-work like ‘Inspired Law’ and ‘Sluper Smashed’, or retro electronica like ‘Haunt Times’ and ‘Spatial Racing’, as Bolland drives you through his own intimately constructed landscape.

The limited-edition version of the record is pressed on triple colour vinyl and comes in a gatefold sleeve, with a 12-inch original canvas print taken from a section of the artwork and hand-finished by Will Barras. Packaged in a high-quality tote bag exclusive to the album bundle.

Will Barras is an award-winning animation director based in London. Alongside his moving image work, he has gained massive recognition as one of a new crop of artists associated with Bristol’s renowned street art scene. He was also a founding member of the famously progressive Scrawl Collection and exhibits his paintings and illustrations worldwide with his original artwork selling from £1000 – £5000.

“I have been a huge fan of Will’s work for a long time, so I was really pleased to get the chance to collaborate with him on this album project. Will and I worked on the concept of ‘Inside The Microbeat’ together, creating a technological spaceship-like tunnel made from synthesisers, drum machines, and wires that fade into the distance. We wanted these to be two original pieces that could be used as the sleeve artwork for the record. The idea was to create one image for the outside of the record and a second image for the limited edition gatefold version. Each of the limited edition packages will include a piece of original artwork hand-finished by Will making each one unique.” – Sync 24

Our Allien leader returns to the UFO bringing with her fresh auditory space signals. Ellen Allien’s latest EP on her UFO Inc imprint marks the sixth release from the label and features four original cuts from the pioneering Berliner. As you may expect from Ellen, the release is packed with raw emotion, rave motifs and unrelenting energy in her own inimitable style.

‘Rosen’ kicks things off, merging melodrama and emotive atmospherics, it’s an immersive experience as the beats pulsate and a simple, but effective analogue melody works its magic. A distorted vocal creeps in and repeats over and over at various intervals, complementing the darkness of the instrumental.

This is followed by ‘N2020’, a pounding techno stomper. The oscillating bassline is joined by mysterious effects hovering in the mid-range. Sombre strings punctuate the breakdown, before we’re launched back into the deep end with the constant thud of the main kick drum working alongside the juddering low end.

The EP closes with two versions of ‘KCKC’. Firstly, it’s the ‘Epic Mix’, which sees Ellen implementing a vocal in her typically skilful way. An extended intro, lasting just over two and a half minutes builds the tension until we’re ready to burst, slamming kick drums juxtaposed with ethereal pad work. Then we have the original version, which is taut and potent, the drums, bass, vocals and pads all intertwined to create a mesmerising finale to the EP. KCKC became Ellen’s personal anthem of her balcony sets during covid lockdown.

Kriptika Records have been making strides in the electronic music world.
The first few releases from Rezystor, Stigmatique, Sligo, Julian Muller, Echoes of October, DJ IBON, MSKD, Amstra, GEERSON, Grace Dahl and label bosses HERMETE and DCMBR picked up support from genre heavyweights such as Amelie Lens, Marcel Fengler, Anetha and Regal and continue to keep fans engaged. Their second VA release continues down the path of releasing first-class hard techno with trance elements, industrial and high-energy, warehouse anthems.

First up is the polish techno queen L Ʌ V Σ N with “Aries Angel” an emotional rave-inspired techno anthem, right before Don Woezik, who delivered a heavy “four-to-the-floor” drummy vocal track. It’s Fenrick’s turn with his “Rythm meaning” filled up with fast-paced drums and melancholic arps, up next Monnom Black affiliate Aahan offering dynamic grooves and emphatic rhythms inside his “Charmer”. Ending with label bosses DCMBR and HERMETE, their tracks “Signals” and ” Fake news, Fake people” are full of acid basslines, churning synths and mammoth pads.
