Info:
After winning widespread support (Daniel Avery, Lauren Laverne, DJ Mag ‘Killer’ EU & US) with 2012’s God Bless EP, Duct & Owen Howells are back with The Bell Tower Ep. Out on April 28th (SHADES012), it’s an acid-soaked, Jekyll & Hyde of a two-tracker juxtaposing warehouse-ready technoid mutations with throwback grooves.
The title track’s a proper industrial workout, fairly smashing the senses with heavyweight drums and wiggly acid lines reminiscent of Claro Intelecto’s earlier output. B-side Remember takes a softer tack, nodding to nascent Detroit techno with its cheeky use of samples and ‘Do you remember house?’ motif, but still putting 303 modulation front and centre.
The physical release, Shades’ twelfth, comes wrapped in stunning art from Liam Robertson’s series of liquid abstracts, and Fybe:one’s pin sharp design.
