Press Info:
For our third release we invited Thomas Mueller, founder of Subcircles and Your Mother Naked, and the two young, aspiring artists Hych and Houston Stiller. Hych enchants us with his hypnotic and driving synth lines, while Houston Stiller shines with more brutal percussions and raw sounds. The whole release is rounded off by an atmospheric number by Thomas Mueller.

„A common rhythmic journes into the unknown mystical.“

Thomas Sterzer felt exactly this and dedicated himself completely to the creation of the artwork. He provides us with the graphic part of „Hypnotic Rituals“.

Press Info:
You’re breathing in fumes. I taste when we kiss.

Steve Bailey a.k.a. Makaton has been at the forefront of techno, releasing peerless, influential and experimental music since 1998. Bailey is from Birmingham (UK), and his heritage deeply rooted in the heavily industrialised Black Country area of the Midlands, where he operates in a dark and industrial landscape.

Rodz-Konez was started in 1998 as an outlet for Makaton to release music. All but a handful of Makaton releases have come through his Rodz-Konez operation, a label that has also released music by Regis, Inigo Kennedy and The 65D Mavericks among other techno luminaries.

Makaton’s unique production style leans heavily on dub, industrial, no wave and minimalism concepts. Bailey’s experimental approach has seen him introduce new ways to represent techno and leave outdated approaches to the genre at the wayside. His work has appeared on the likes of James Ruskin’s Blueprint, Token and Voitax, as well as his own Rodz-Konez.

Makaton’s compelling live set electrifies audiences and has seen him bolster techno in the UK, across Europe and in Asia playing at the world’s top clubs like fabric (London), House of God (Birmingham), Concrete (Paris), Berghain and Tresor (Berlin), Contact (Tokyo) and more. Makaton’s live sets range from deep to industrial and are always sonically challenging.

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Explanatory Gap plays Ōtomo

DJ:
Explanatory Gap

About the concept:
Here is the eighty-sixth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you Explanatory Gap’s mix of tracks released on Ōtomo.

About Explanatory Gap:
Explanatory Gap, 22 y/o, is a DJ and aspiring producer from Augsburg, Germany. He grew up listening to Techno, electronic music in general really, as well as non-electronic music which shaped his current understanding of music. Having always had the urge to express himself artistically, in one way or another, he picked up DJing as a hobby which quickly turned into his passion, next to creating his own music. Since the beginning of 2017, Explanatory Gap has been part of FACETS, a collective of like-minded artists best known for hosting their own events as well as for their podcast series that already featured several artists such as Non Reversible, Electrorites and Incident Prism, just to name a few.

About Ōtomo:
Global techno label releasing music from the cutting edge of emerging talent.

Explanatory Gap About His Choice:
Ōtomo is a label with an extremely diverse collection of releases that covers anything from soft and hypnotic Techno to the harder sounds and Industrial. The sheer variety of styles, sometimes radically different, yet still connected by an “underground vibe” speaks for the crew and their attitude towards the music they release, which in turn is what I’m looking for.
