Press Info :
Does techno music really need the album format? Let‘s put it differently: can techno work outside the established boundaries of the 12“? A look back into history shows little convincing examples. Dancefloor tracks, made for DJ‘s, follow a structure which require a damn perfect dancefloor in your living room in order to adequately absorb that very energy. A good album must offer more than a couple of dancefloor anthems, mixed with some ambient interludes and the obligatory downbeat experiment, has to be more substantial than a paint-box for your euphoric memories of perfect nights long gone.

With „The Traveller“, Shed‘s second album for Ostgut Ton, the Berlin-based producer is proving everybody wrong who gave up on the idea of the techno album. „The Traveller“ is not the perfectly planned out escape into the safe haven where even more perfect tools worship the primetime DJ, but an ode to the heart of electronic dance music, still pumping loud and vigorous. For Shed, that very heartbeat was never clearer, more concise and genre-defining than in the UK in the early 90s. Detroit, Chicago, Berlin: get in line, you‘ve had your time. Needless to say that Shed is not in this to become the copycat of some of rave music‘s perfect key moments. Shed translates this clearly defined time frame into an attitude, which up to this day opens both our hearts and ears in the blinking of an eye. „The Traveller“ is not another chapter in the ongoing history of the „anything goes“ cult, not an overcooked stew praising the power of eclecticism, but simply an example of untaimed fascination for sound. And possibilities. Frankly, Shed masters this almost naive approach perfectly and slaps the guards of the status quo straight in the face.

Again and again, Shed pulls little melodies from the depths of his studio and lets us discover our enthusiasm for the moment anew. Welcome back, we missed you dearly. He applies breakbeats bearing more history than the 909 bassdrum where the 4/4 attack would have been the obvious choice, grants grandpa acid only a brief yet overwhelming guest appearance and deals with minimal dancemusic‘s heritage in a completely new, unexplored way. Always present: euphoria. With „The Traveller“, Shed manages the intangible and translates techno tracks into a shorter, yet crisper format, plays with tempi and moods. And yet each and every beat is right where it belongs, helping to merge every ingredient into an adventurous trip through a night one always dreams of and yet hardly ever gets.

At the same time, „The Traveller“ is all but frumpy, quite the opposite. Those who expect the album to be the soundtrack for an all-inclusive weekender for techno pensioners, will be very disappointed. The album resonates from start to finish, is full of ideas, speaks dubstep and choses radical approaches where other producers opt for the emergency exit of the lowest common denominators. „The Traveller“ is the perfect base for everybody still willing to take a chance.

There is more to Shed, though. With „Wax“ and „Equalized“, he created two labels solely dedicated to his still strong admiration for the classic „track culture“. After the release of his debut album „Shedding The Past“ in 2008, this was a spot-on playground to experiment and play around with new ideas. On an album though these tracks would not have worked. An album deserves something different. „The Traveller“ is a shining example of this approach.

Press Info:
The solid tumbling tones found on this EP are all thats needed as an introduction to these two accomplished producer’s latest creation. Both strong forces in their own right, the pair come together once again on Sweatshop to present their vision of dancefloor harmony, and mystery!

‘Sirens’ is the aptly titled track whose crazy vibe is encapsulated by jacking, swinging percussion, wild pitching synth stabs and a haunting soprano soloist letting loose! This needs to be experienced to be believed, but the proof will be in the dancefloor, hands in the air and minds expanded!

‘Moirae’ works the tension with dense filtered stabs and crisp solid state percussion, driving this deep slab of dark dance into blissful moments of release. Mellow yet urgent, its a raw, purist electronic statement!

Joel Alter also offers up a special edit which focuses the groove in a slightly more kinetic direction, with reduced, aquatic synth work and a classic club energy that makes it an ideal addition to the package.

Note: artwork & press text were saying “Sirens” instead of “Sirenes”.

out now: Hermanez – Locomotive [Circle Music]

Artist:
Hermanez

Title:
Locomotive

Label:
Circle Music

Cat#:
CIRCLE027

Release Date:
16. June 2010

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:
01. Locomotive
02. Snarey Business
03. Raw Shuffle

Track 03 is digital-only!

Info :
Circle Music welcomes a new family member: Michael Coninx alias Hermanez. The Limburg born Belgian who started his carrier very classical as a DJ in his early youth arrested attention with his latest productions on labels like Viva Music, Monique Music, or Quartz. With his style between deepness and aggression he convinced big names like Laurent Garnier, Gregor Trescher, Sven Väth or Christian Smith to support his releases. But know we will have a closer look to his first Circle Music release.

“Locomotive”:
With the cautious “Locomotive” Hermanez, who remixed collegues like, DJ Yellow or Kaiserdisco so far lays his focus on smooth sounds, strait beats, wafting basses, fluffy chords and really nice and sharp highs. Very functional the track creates a very easy and bulked atmosphere. Every beat is like taking the next step into something very strong and powerfull, everytime in motion, everywhere in room and time.

“Snarey Business”:
With “Snarey Business” Hermanez, makes it a bit more techno like. The arrangement is more tight, the groove is more impulsive (and Hermanez pushs it higher and higher with every minute. Very dry the percussions are the perfect complement to the wet and semi-melodic synthesizers. This is the perfect track getting the people on the floor.

“Raw Shuffle”:
“Raw Shuffle” is really raw. Pounding grooves and washed out percussions and highs are building the very strong center of the track. And around this strong base vocal snippets, dry chords and a lot of nice gadgetry are flying. Here Hermanez shows a very intuitional feeling for the small elements making his track to a waterfall of emotions, sounds and handcraft. A really strong track with a very sexy groove.

Press Info :
Luke Slater’s Mote-Evolver label is doing more than most right now to keep the techno scene as fresh and vibrant as it should be. Combining the contrasting styles of peak time party cuts from Cari Lekebusch with the brutally heavy music of Ortin Cam and ultramodern techno from Finland?s Samuli Kemppi and American innovator Submerge; Mote-Evolver continue to bring fresh momentum to the scene by sticking to the twin values of consistent quality and varied content

As a fellow OstGut Ton recording artist and Berghain regular, the connections between Berlin’s Marcel Fengler and Luke Slater go beyond the usual mutual respect between artists. Strongly influenced by the heavier techno sounds of the early 90’s, Fengler has released his inspiring tracks on OstGut Ton and has now found another natural home in Mote-Evolver for his mood-soaked, often-abrasive music.

With the clue to its inspiration in the title, Thwack is typical of the Berghaininspired music for which Fengler is known. A no-holes-barred ride through mechanical sounds and raw beats; the track exudes a purposefulness that conjures up visions of steam locomotives relentlessly powering through the night.

Sculptures flips the emphasis of the EP from heavy industrial atmospherics to a decidedly funky yet definitely twisted groove. Intense, energetic and hypnotic this is a full-force production that not only has the energy to move the floor but also the power to melt the mind as warped loops of plucked strings work their charms.
