Press Info:
Aleks Schatten’s debut EP ‘Scars To Reveal’ to be released on August 21

Berlin-based artist, Aleks Schatten, releases his first four track EP ‘Scars To Reveal’ on August 21. A collection of otherworldly and dystopian Techno tracks building upon Post Industrial, IDM and Avant-garde Punk. Featuring a track with iconic Berlin-based Post-Industrial band Bestial Mouths on their newly founded ‘Compulsive Movement’ label.

Heavily relying on elaborate sound design and subtle details, the opening duo ‘Strangled With A Golden Braid’ and ‘I Lost My Heart Midway To Your Place’ evoke a gloomy and captivating atmosphere with a sense of intimacy and urgency. Whereas ‘Love, Misguided’ is tailored for dancefloors, openly praising Birmingham’s contribution to Techno and at the same time a fond farewell to Aleks Schatten’s EBM roots. The EP closes with ‘In Mourning To Exist’, an anthemic yet slow-moving number featuring Bestial Mouths’ singer Lynette Cerezo, in her lead role as a tribal preacher and enchantress, embedded in a psychedelic Industrial environment, channelling Coil and Psychic TV’s late 80s/early 90s Techno experiments.

A series of DJ sets is planned for late 2017, following the release of a 2nd EP. Mastered by Neptune Mastering

Press Info:
Having reached double digits on its release roster, Amsterdam-based techno label FORMAT presents its 11th release. And it’s a three-piece ensemble by label honcho Juan Sanchez himself.

FR011 delivers three techno bombs that perfectly reflect the FORMAT sound. Things kick off with ‘Despite The…’, which combines deep grooves to staccato bass pulses designed for peak-time moments. Spanish DJ/producer Aiken delivers a nasty remix that is propelled by a fierce industrial groove and coated in dark atmospheres. Closing the release is the sinister ‘In The Dark’, which is as deep as it is trippy. FORMAT’s first 2017 release is another prime example of the label’s coveted sound.

The release comes with stunning artwork by visual artist DEFRAME. Based on the refraction of light, the artwork reflects the illusion of a tiny multiverse where each plane exists in a different time and space. Much like its audio counterpart, it allows the viewer to get lost, see things differently and go beyond.

Coming up soon on FORMAT is a compilation release featuring a wide selection of known FORMAT-faces as well as various new names. Keep your eyes open for this one!

Ritual

Press Info (English):
It goes without saying that space has always been central to Techno – both in terms of its cosmic and futuristic trajectory, as well as in the spatial dimensions of sonic elements.
Etapp Kyle’s first full Ostgut Ton EP release sees the Ukrainian-born, Berlin-based Berghain resident emphasizing the connection between the two, while avoiding Techno’s overt intergalactic clichés.

By partially linking to his Continuum EP (Unterton, 2016), the results are four tracks of pristine, sci-fi minimalism, propelled by Ambient synths and percussive explosions in distant skies – more utopian than dystopian. Opener “Alpha” establishes the cosmic theme from the get go, with chord swells and a whirring, phasing spacewind panning across the stereo image. While a subdued kickdrum gets things started, it’s the rhythmic interplay between dynamic high-hats and halled-out rimshots that guide the track through space. From there, “Quantum” on A2 strips the voyage down to a glowing, unwavering arpeggiated synth line, interspersed with twisted, high-pitched bells and updated 909- esque snare patters.

Etapp Kyle’s deep, bleepy minimalism continues with “Source” on the flipside, where morphing hats and an atmospheric two chord progression lay the foundation for an interlocking array of rhythms. On closer “Ritual”, things take a different turn entirely, as a dirge-like drone resounds across a colossal sonic expanse. Eventually, ASMR-inducing vinyl crackle and miniscule syncopated rhythms fill in the galactic details. A booming, tribal timpani completes the kick-drums in each measure, while shakers hold a groove.

As a producer, Etapp Kyle manages to create atmosphere through an ear for detail and extreme precision. Here, his mix of minute, hallucinatory rhythmic elements and sonic spatial exploration project the tracks beyond the big room to Techno’s biggest room: the universe.
