Press Info:
The music of Joey Beltram hits hard and strikes deep. Born 24 years ago in the tough urban surrounds of Queens, NYC, the sound of Joey Beltram is a product of his environment, uncompromising, unrelenting, man versus machine. Being brought up next to the subway track to Manhattan, the rumble and clatter of passing trains seems to have seeped into his subconscious, re-emerging in a distilled form in his numerous outings in a variety of guises over the past few years. From the mesmeric ‘Energy Flash’ to the hard and direct ‘Mentasm’, the track that spawned a legion of imitators with it’s distinct, and at that time, original ‘hoover – esque’ sounds over a raging techno beat. Joey Beltram has carved his own distinct groove, a man who does not specialise in easy listening. Twisted music that snarls in the face of mediocre corporate disco.

Frustrated with the claustrophobic surrounds of his New York world Beltram initially found release through his graffiti art. “We always used to hang out in the train yard late at night” he remembers, “because you wouldn’t be able to hit the trains until two in the morning. So we’d sit by a bonfire, tell graffiti tales and listen to the biggest, loudest boom box on the block.” Inspired by the sounds of Tony Humphries and his regular slots on New York’s underground radio shows. 16 year old Joey eventually took his urban art in a different direction, stringing together primitive sounds through a beat up old mixing desk, to come up with tracks that would form the basis of Beltram’s recording career. Raw, moody and distinctly urban, the Beltram template was formed.

Switch to 1996, via his recent outings for Tresor, for whom he recorded ‘Places’ in 1994, his atmospheric and distinctly deep offerings as Code 6, we find ourselves gawping in amazement that Beltram still holds the potential to mainline the hardest hitting sounds around directly into your skull. December 9th sees the release of his first album under the guise of JB3, ‘Close Grind’ for NovaMute, recorded in Joey’s new hangout of leafy, upstate New York. With most tracks tried and tested on acetate in clubs around the world, the album proves itself as a record distinctly oriented towards the dance floor. A record with the ability to leave the weak hearted handbag brigade gasping for breath and running for cover with it’s barrage of satanic electronica and atom bomb beats.

From the hard, tribal musings of ‘Back Porch’ to the strangely aquatic Captain Nemo – esque techno of ‘Presence’, ‘Close Grind’ leaves you disorientated. Scary stuff. Opening with the minimal ‘Time’ with its schizophrenic snare barrage, the album rapidly picks up pace. Via ‘Curb’, laced with phased, out funked up guitars over an undulating bassline [Joey Beltram goes disco ?] we are dumped at the feet of ‘Loose Kick’ with its unrepentant, deep and dark approach, direct hard techno in its purest form. ‘Loose Kick’ lets loose wild electronic stabs that drift in and out of the track like a wasp possessed by Satan. Taking the sounds of hell further, Beltram wheels out ‘The View’, with its menacing throbbing sub bass that could scare the jazzy drum and bass fraternity out of the jungle. With the CD version of the album carrying the previous NovaMute singles ‘Believer’ and ‘Forklift’, ‘Close Grind’ refines the raw industrial heart of NYC into blood curdling techno sounds. Joey Beltram, king of Queens.

Press Info:
For his next Token EP, Kr!z delivers squelchy synth sequences over robust kicks, reinforcing his no-nonsense approach to club music. Classic in its conception yet psychotic in effect, Ipso Facto is a record built for powerful sound systems during the night’s most delirious moments.

First impressions are important; the Belgian producer has never been one to waste time, and this record is no exception. What you hear is what you get—an anxiously slithering synth line makes his intentions clear in Defeat the Purpose, driving people to the dancefloor. Dry drum machine work thunders throughout, locking in the Token style with precision. Moving into the next track, ‘Chrome Dust’ focuses more on the tonal side of things and its irresistible groove makes it an instant ear catcher. Playful rides and snares shape the progression, with Kr!z swapping percussion elements to keep the movement lively.

The title track is a true hip swinger on the B1 as he reaches in the low end of the synth sequence to establish a very compelling rhythm. Everything in its right place, and not a hair more, the percussion transitions are reminiscent of his 4 channel DJ sets, the energy always being on the move. Equilibrium closes the EP with high energy, opening up filters over a reliably bouncy rhythm. Years of experience behind the decks can be very instructive for a perceptive producer, and Kr!z proves us just that in this track and in the whole EP.

Beg It

Press Info:
The Southern returns to CLR with the ‘B2basic’ EP

The three-track EP includes a remix from Chicagoan Techno legend DJ Rush

The Southern returns to Chris Liebing’s CLR this March with the ‘B2basic’ EP, following his two-part ‘Particle’ EP on the label in 2024. Up first is title track ‘B2basic’, a fully-charged cut laced with a wigged-out acid line, primed for peak-time club action. Then comes Chicago’s DJ Rush with the remix, a thrashing interpretation defined by layers of syncopated high-hats whilst a brooding synth guides you into a sense of warehouse rave nostalgia. Lastly, ‘Beg It’ works stripped-back, snare-rattling techno loops to create mesmerising space and depth for the closing track.

The Southern’s high-grade techno has gained support from industry heavyweights like Robert Hood, Ben Sims, Amelie Lens, and many more on impressive imprints such as Truncate, On Edge Society, Kneaded Pains, and, of course, CLR, on which he has become one of the label’s leading artists.

Founded by influential techno lynchpin Chris Liebing in 1999 and reemerging in 2021 after a five-year hiatus, Create Learn Repeat (CLR) has hosted a range of artists like Shlomi Aber, Dubfire, Flug, Bjarki, DJ Dextro and more while also focusing on developing newer acts in the scene such as Risa Taniguchi and Klint.

Press Info:
(MS) label boss Myles Sergé has put together a new remix package for the recently released track “Shoplifter,” and his back catalogue includes appearances on labels like Zenker Brothers’ Ilian Tape, Dan Curtin’s Metamorphic, Dense & Pika’s Kneaded Pains, and Esther Duijn’s Another Earth, to name only a few. The original “Shoplifter” is a stripped-back and jackin’ cut with a tool-like style and immersive, hypnotic style that’s totally club ready.

Dustin Zahn is a Berlin-based artist from America who not only runs Enemy Records, but has released on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode, James Ruskin’s Blueprint, Radio Slave’s Rekids, and Kr!z’s Token. His ‘is Guilty Remix’ adds a warm and bubbling bassline to a spacious, delicate soundscape and satisfying, heads down groove.

Chicago’s Lester Fitzpatrick is an veteran producer who has had tracks featured on Music Man, Green Velvet’s Relief, Damon Wild’s Syenwave, A.Paul’s Naked Lunch, to name only a few. His remix takes things down a tougher approach, where driving percussion meets abstract effects and haunting textures for a ferocious trip.

Chicago Skyway also has roots in Illinois, and his music has been released on labels like Aroy Dee’s M>O>S Recordings to Eargasmic, also listing gigs at the renowned Freerotation Festival in Wales.Chicago Skyway’s ‘Narced Remix’ throws in a classic sounding, stomping rhythm which means business, and tweaks the lead tone for maximum floor effect.

Nuntius Noctis is from Grand Rapids, and makes his debut release on any label by contributing to this collection, and who has plans for more new material due in 2025. His remix adds some breakbeat drum patterns amongst some interesting vocal samples, and the huge, grinding bassline spins the original into an entirely new realm.

Anders Ilar and John H are two well established Swedish producers who combine once again following their contributions to Drvg Culture’s New York Haunted, Esther Duijn’s Another Earth, Kenneth Christiansen’s Echocord, and Shitkatapult. The duo hit the machines to form a bouncing, rubbery 303 line that expands into a colossal and infectious acid journey.

Rouding off the remixes, Berlin’s Black Mirror Park is a member of Sonntagsinstitut Collective, and lists works on Robert Hoff’s trau-ma, dotwav’s KONFLKT, Planet Rhythm, and DifferentSound. His remix closes out the release with a twisted and hypnotic rework that uses suspense and dubby tones to a create a contemporary piece with depth and soul intertwined to perfection.
