Charlotte de Witte mints her new KNTXT label with a suitably epic collaboration, joining forces with techno royalty Chris Liebing for ‘Liquid Slow’, due for release on 27th September.

CLR boss and German techno pioneer Liebing has been a regular at KNTXT parties over the years, not least at the sold-out stadium event at Antwerp’s Sportpaleis last year where he will be returning to once again this November, alongside de Witte, just after the release of this new EP.

The influential pair spent time hanging out together at Awakenings Festival last year when they had the idea to collaborate. “I field-recorded the sound of a crane that was already taking stuff down next to us and thought it would be a good starting point“ says Chris. Whilst he admits the sample didn’t made it on to this release, he teased a future collaboration saying “who knows, maybe there is more in the pipeline, I still have the recording”.

Current BBC Radio 1 resident Charlotte de Witte is once again in the midst of a non-stop summer that finds her taking her dark, stripped and powerful sounds to the biggest clubs and festivals in the world. She adds, “we have shared a lot of laughs, a couple of beers and a million different mixdown versions of both tracks. I consider Chris to be my friend and I’m very proud and honoured to have worked with him on this EP”.

Opener ‘Liquid Slow’ is seven minutes of heavy and hypnotic techno. It is stripped back to an acid bassline and earth rumbling kicks, with a meandering lead synth line and a darkly absorbing spoken word vocal over the top sure to lock in the dance floor for the duration. ‘In Memory’ ups the pressure with rumbling drums and bass sweeping you up as more acid twitches and tough hits nail down the groove. It is another powerful and compelling piece of techno from this vital pair.

This is the latest fascinating development in the story of Charlotte de Witte and her KNTXT brand. Now a label as well as a radio show and event series, KNTXT strives to be a progressive player within the vibrant techno scene.

Idealist, Patrick Zigon, El Choop and Van Bonn took their hands on Insect O.’s full length album ‘Atacama’.

Zurich based Idealist turns the epic ‘New Dawn’ track into a raw techno mover with acidic chords and an air cutting hihat. For his remix of ‘Resonance’ Biotop label head Patrick Zigon spices up the melodies with some disharmonic sounds and embeds it on top of a shuffling groove foundation. El Choop got on remix duties for ‘Atacama’ and hit the ground running. Using multiband saturation and a granular software to create a pad, he’s turned it into an entirely new exploding techno track. Van Bonn rounds up the remix edition. Using some trippy fx, he lays the chords and field recordings on top of a very deep dub beat in his mystic remix for ‘Forest Of The Monkeys’.

Insect O. – Atacama LP has been released on Etui Records in October 2018. He calls it music for travelling, between ambient, dub and techno. The remixes will be out on 12” black vinyl and digital audio September 6th 2019.

Rocko Garoni might be new to Second State, but he’s already made an indelible impression. If 2018’s Detection EP marked the respected Berlin DJ as a producer to watch, his sophomore Second State release confirms him as an electrifying new talent. Having made his mark on important clubs and festival stages across Germany and as far as the Netherlands, Israel and Brazil, Garoni has a well-trained ear for what works on the dancefloor. He deploys it to devastating effect on the Phobia EP.

Kicking off the release, the title track is as atmospheric and menacing as its name suggests. A detached female vocal utters the titular word on repeat over a pulsing kick, while later, ravey bleeps shift the track into overdrive. ‘Unify’ is a rallying call that meshes a political voiceover with a hammering kick and pounding synths. At 132BPM it’s fast, furious and impossible to resist. ‘MBF’ is straight eyes-down techno, with another nefarious, monosyllabic vocal and a slowly building cacophony of elements designed to get lost in. On Marco Bailey’s remix, the Belgian veteran adds lashings of acid and wonky keys for a destabilizing alternative. Overall, Phobia is a four-weapon package destined to do some serious dancefloor damage. Make no mistake, Garoni has arrived.

The cover of Bowie’s BOYS KEEP SWINGING was already a good idea as it was, but the remix by Pilocka Krach brings to it a dry acid bass-line and a truly swinging beat making this into a sexy dance number.

Dasha Rush’s remix of BABY I CAN DRIVE MY CAR demonstrates Gudrun Gut’s lyrics and reconstructs the song as an atmospheric sound cloud, which makes this otherwise tight and functional club track float.

LOVER as remixed by TRaumschmiere starts of as a booming techno tracks and by adding wide harmonic pads winds up as a moment of joy. This runs (and tingles).

Paul Frick took on the piece MUSIK and turned it into a spectacular track with a presssing though laid back sub-bass and classy house groove as well as magical drifting samples.
