Press Info:
This EP represents the first in a series of releases will start a conceptual work developed in several years from the artist. Recorded entirely with modular synthesizers, tape sampling and analog gears; he wants to keep an ‘handcrafted’ approach both in music and the artwork (painted by the artist with acrylic colors).

The first track ‘Eternal Limbo’ tells about a dying philosopher. The philosopher is tel- ling us the story of his life in third person. There was a man that managed to reduce the world to pure logic. Looking at this perfection he wondered about the perfect ice and the perfect form. But when he tried to walk on that he realizes that missed something so he fell down. That world was so perfect to let him live in. So he under- stood that roughness and ambiguity aren’t imperfections. They are the blood that move the world. So he felt really free and started to live differently. But…., he was homesick for that perfection, that wonderful ice where everything was radiant and absolute. Though he had come to like the idea of the rough ground, he couldn‘t bring himself to live there. So now he was marooned between Earth and ice, at home in neither.

‘Lobotomy’ it’s a physical trip into the modern human mind/body lobotomy. Characters: repetition, electricity in a huge analog distortion amount, experimental ob- session with an imperfect rhythm structure touch to give the track the life needed.

‘Man Of Madness’ talks about darkness and multidimensional demoniac possessions. Every man has the Devil inside, and for someone these secrets are so heavy in horror that can be thrown down only in the grave. The only way to undivulged them.

‘Tentacular Nightmare’ is pretty title-described. Is the modern man halfway being sleeping and awake. In another level, cosmic floor, with all his demons, his garbage but also his dreams.

Press Info:
On the 30th of April, VOLTAGE Imprint will release the Transistor compilation featuring a long list of artists that contribute to our local Belgian scene – north, south, and central. Hosting a variety of styles, from hypnotic to industrial, and familiar names; a collection of people who have distinguished themselves in contemporary dance music not just in our country, but around the world. 75% of the proceeds of this compilation will go to these artists in an effort to support them doing what they do best: delivering us joy and a soundtrack to our night. This compilation isn’t just a cry for help, but equally an affirmation that our scene is worth fighting for.

The contributions involved will come from a combination of each of our very own artists from the Voltage Agency & Imprint and others – proudly including the likes of Kr!z, Marco Bailey, One Track Brain, Farrago, Jacidorex, Radical G and TWAN to name only a few. We are proud to showcase their work as it represents the current sound of our scene and the music we are eagerly waiting to dance to once again in our favorite clubs and events after this isolated period of confinement.
The Transistor Compilation, a name meant to honor an effort to rectify the damages being done to our artists, will be available on all digital platforms including Bandcamp. We ask you to consider buying it, as COVID-19 has rendered it impossible for these artists to play their booked gigs and therefore benefit from their main source of income.

This isn’t the first time our community has been threatened and it certainly won’t be the last. Music and art become more important as times become increasingly trying. Dancing has never felt so appropriate.

Spaß Rewind

Press Info:
Pole, aka musician, producer and mastering engineer Stefan Betke, has announced the remastered reissue of his debut album releases, 1, 2 and 3, available on Mute as a box set on 24 April 2020.

Released on vinyl (for the first time in nearly 20 years) and CD (remastered since its 2008 reissue), the box set releases mark 20 years since the trilogy was completed and a return to the label for the groundbreaking artist. The vinyl edition includes a bonus 12″, RAUM, originally released on DIN records in 1998.

Taking his name from a defective analogue Waldorf 4-Pole filter, the broken machine’s distinctive crackles gave Pole the starting point for his equally simple and subtle sound layers. Rhythmic textures and warmly pulsing bass lines join in play and, at least from Pole 2, experience a slow shift towards Minimal Dub.

Betke explains, “A common factor in all the releases was that they all originated in a kind of dub continuum. Melodies have never been my motivation – they were always more peripheral. But across those albums, the reverbs and the bass lines were always related and interlinked with each other. By working that way, I didn’t feel as if I was under any artificial pressure, and I could allow things to end loosely in order to continue my work.”

Pole 1 (1998), Pole 2 (1999) and Pole 3 (2000), originally released as three consecutive albums in their own right, and described by The Wire as “…a set of roadmaps for the soul”, are presented together to highlight Pole’s deliberate statement – reinforced by the titling of the albums and their minimalist monochrome cover art.

Pole’s music has a unique way of oscillating between melody and avant-garde, between pop and experimental. While many of his electronic peers swore off all danceable elements during the latter half of the 1990s, Pole decided to walk the edge, championing both radical reductionism and psychedelic dream states. Tracks like ‘Kirschenessen’ or ‘Hafen’ give ample proof that his music doesn’t limit itself to mere functionalism, but encourages new and poetic associations.

Pole’s classic 1 2 3 trilogy still resonates in contemporary electronic music. The unmistakeable crackles infiltrated both mainstream Pop and the burgeoning Dubstep scene and now, with the reissue of his first three albums, listeners get a chance to experience Pole 1-3 as a coherent entity and explore this defining benchmark in the history of electronic music.
