Risa Taniguchi’s title track to her ‘So Loud’ EP on CLR is a brilliantly alluring, stripped-back workout built on thudding kicks. The twitchy synth motifs bring a foreboding atmosphere next to raw percussion, all elements creeping in intensity. The electrifying ‘Emission’ brings more nervous energy with fizzing synths layering in rich texture over clacking hits and rolling bass. There’s an unsettling sense of cosmic turbulence throughout this most stylish of tracks, making for a powerful and essential pair of cuts to lock the crowds in for a late-night trip.

At the forefront of the Japanese techno scene, Risa Taniguchi’s music on labels like Second State and Kneaded Pains mixes dark, lo-fi sound, distorted textures, and slow-burning energy that always hits its mark. She first arrived on Chris Liebing’s CLR in 2022 alongside Black Asteroid with the ‘Acid Flesh’ EP, which won the support of artists like Luke Slater, Blawan, Amelie Lens, and many more – once again excelling with her solo ‘So Loud’ EP this May.
