Info:
With a sprawling discography that can be traced as far back as 2005, the last few years have found the Providence-based noise artist Ren Schofield shifting his attention towards his Container guise with increasing vigour, delivering full-length albums for Spectrum Spools and I Just Live Here, as well as an acclaimed EP for Rabih Beaini’s much-lauded Morphine Records.

With Liberation Technologies having already exhibited the fiercely confrontational style of BMB, and coaxed an EP of skewed electronics out of Vessel for ‘Misery Is A Communicable Disease’, ‘Adhesive’ is a natural fit for the imprints burgeoning canon.

As uncompromising as you’d expect, the four tracks on offer display the work of a producer working intuitively with the machines he surrounds himself with, a relentless pulse ever present at the core of these abrasive workouts.

Misery Is A Communicable Disease

Label:
Liberation Technologies / Mute

Cat#:
LTECH006

Release Date:
14th October 2013

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:
01)
Misery Is A Communicable Disease

02)
VMI

03)
Not For Design

Info:
Following a slew of acclaimed releases on Left Blank and Tri Angle, as well an album with the muchlauded Young Echo collective, Vessel debuts on the burgeoning Liberation Technologies imprint with three diverse cuts of inimitable off-kilter electronics.

‘Misery Is A Communicable Disease’ serves as a euphoric opener, primed for moments of escapism on or off the dancefloor with resonant hats and an exultant synth line laid bare upon a bed of gauzy pads and valve-warmed kicks. VMI is a different beast altogether, channelling the visceral spirit of minimal wave and punk aesthetic to create a sordid call to arms before the frenzied acid and lingering menace of ‘Not For Design’ closes the record in typically deranged fashion.

Cat#:
LTECH005

Release Date:
26th August 2013

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:
01)
Parts 1-7

02)
Parts 8-14

Info:
After a sustained period of enviable productivity, renowned producer Mark Fell arrives on Liberation Technologies to further carve out his own singular vision of left-field electronic music.

After reviving the SND moniker with long-term collaborator Mat Steel in 2008, and releasing a slew of singles under the Sensate Focus guise, it’s here that the mind behind recent sound installation ’64 Beautiful Phase Violations’ delivers his most visceral work yet, melding angular electronics and skittering rhythms into a sonic palette that is undeniably his own.

Treading an equally as distinctive path throughout their illustrious career, Japanese experimentalist Eye (Boredoms) contributes his own vision of ‘Parts 1-7’, an inspired pairing that’s offered up as a free download in advance as a tantalizing glimpse into the forthcoming record.

out now: Powell – Fizz [Liberation Technologies]

Powell

Title:
Fizz

Label:
Liberation Technologies / Mute

Cat#:
LTECH004

Release Date:
17th June 2013

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:
01)
Fizz

02)
Wharton Tiers On Drums

03)
Beat

Info:
London’s Powell works with opposites, in a way that’s delightfully disconcerting. His tracks, on the surface, seem relatively uniform – but listen closer, or at punishing volume, and they teem with detail: wiry guitars, sinister yelps, synth figures that fizz like bubbles through sparkling water. Across two EPs in 2012 for his own Diagonal label and one for Death Of Rave in 2013, he has established himself as one of the UK’s most unique electronic musicians.

Powell’s tracks flirt with the dynamics and structures of club music while joyfully subverting them, throwing acoustic sound sources or disembodied voices into the mix to play havoc with the groove. Indeed, the three tracks on his new Fizz EP for Liberations Technologies are some of the most mischevious club-rooted music you’re likely to hear all year. They nod obliquely to Powell’s history with jungle and early drum & bass – compared to the techno-esque momentum of his earlier releases, here he’s almost subliminally ratcheted up the tempo, turning these tracks into blistering forward barrages of percussion and dusty bass. On ‘Fizz’, sub-bass throbs like a motorbike engine, paired with his distinctive guitar scribbles. ‘Wharton Tiers On Drums’ sets panicked vocal cut-ups to a rapid motorik chug. And the sketchlike rhythmic pummelling of ‘Beats’ plays almost like a DJ tool, a reminder that even this strangest and most angular of music can lay waste to dancefloors.

out now: Bandshell – Caustic View [Liberation Technologies]

Artist:
Bandshell

Title:
Caustic View

Label:
Liberation Technologies / Mute

Format:
12″ & digital

Tracklist:

02)

03)

04)

Info:
Bandshell makes music akin to impenetrably complex puzzles. With a rhythmically intricate style both coarse & strikingly individual his curious constructions have seemingly little regard for the constraints of the dance floor.

The second track on the EP, ‘Perc,’ is featured on Ben UFO’s Fabriclive 67.
