Press Info:
From beyond our universe, the Alientronic invasion arrives on Planet Earth

One of the great ambassadors of Berlin techno, Ellen Allien presents her brand new album ‘Alientronic’. This is a body of work rooted in the city where it was recorded, Ellen’s home and the place where she discovered techno sparking a love a air that will burn for infinity.

‘Alientronic’ was recorded during the cold winter months in Berlin at the end of 2018, a time when creativity hits a peak in the city. Sub-zero temperatures and dark nights keep the artists locked away indoors, finding time and space to journey inwards and tap into the deepest recesses of their creative energy.

The album represents an artist who is brimming with ideas, years of experience breathe life into Ellen’s work – it’s re ned, yet liberated, informed by the past but very much looking to the future. Ellen disseminates classic techno and acid tropes through her visionary lens, vocals are looped and warped, tough beats slam down as stirring pads coax us into an emotive realm and we’re privy to a spellbinding other world full of mysterious exotic allure.

Is it a hallucination or are the electroterrestrials already here among us?

Press Info:
Boston 168 return to BPitch Berlin with an EP that promises no less than a proper »909 Therapy« in three cathartic sessions. Hot on the heels of their debut single »Drops In Heaven« for Ellen Allien’s label, the Italian duo follow up with three even more rave-inspired pieces of cosmic techno. Theirs is not the kind therapy that will have you lie down on a couch and open up about your past, but the sort that will have you move every fibre of your body and embrace the here and now.

The A-side »909 Therapy« is perhaps Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca’s most raw-sounding production yet: a booming kickdrum serves as the blank slate for the endless possibilities of the legendary Roland drum machine which the two producers here use with the playfulness and authority of a good jazz drummer – cool and reserved on the outside, hot and passionate on the inside. The stuttering chords that hint at classic Belgian rave material, and which are at times layered or punctuated by Boston 168’s piercing trademark acid sounds, lend even more explosiveness to this track which encapsulates the vitality of a live improvisation in a dense seven minute trip.

Also »Hypnotic States« and »Daydreams« are true to their titles. The former track combines a pulsating kickdrum with subtle, ornamental percussive work and a floating melody that is oozing with melancholy. It is the very essence of the Boston 168 sound that unfolds here over the course of a little less than six minutes. Where »Hypnotic States« works with ominous soundscapes and disembodied vocals to create an eerie atmosphere, »Daydreams« highlights the more cheerful side of the Turin-based duo’s understanding of techno. Like the two other pieces, it draws heavily on the psychedelic qualities of 90s rave culture, however its intertwining melodies at times seem to develop a life of their own. It is a track abundant with joy, nervous anticipation and endless thrills and thus the best possible outcome for a thorough »909 Therapy« like provided by Boston 168 on their second BPitch Berlin release.

Press Info:
The shortest connection between the past and the future leads through the music of Boston 168. Drawing inspiration from both classic and contemporary approaches to the acid techno sound, early nineties rave culture and the throbbing pulse of the now, Sergio Pace and Vincenzo Ferramosca have carved out a niche for themselves which over the past four years has become a musical microcosm of its own.

Having released a slew of records on such labels as Involve, Attic, Odd Even and Dustin Zahn’s Enemy, the Italian duo now presents its most cohesive musical statement thus far on Ellen Allien’s BPitch. On the three tracks of »Drops In Heaven«, Boston 168 seamlessly mold together lysergic acid lines with elements of nineties ambient techno and a rhythmic groundwork that is as thrilling as it is intricate.

»Cosmic Tribe« translates its idea of universal togetherness into a nerve-wrecking groove punctuated by complex percussion work and a subtly building acid line, while »Drops In Heaven« uses a booming kick drum as base for an emotionally driven exploration of sonic textures. The psychedelic »Straight to Light« nods to nineties pioneers like Emmanuel Top, showcasing Ferramosca and Pace’s talent for creating musical depth by ingeniously bringing together a few select elements to greater effect.

These are tracks that relentlessly head towards the unknown final frontier of what techno can sound like in 2018, while not in the least neglecting the rich tradition that they draw from.
