LAIBACH, have shared ‘White Christmas’, a two-track single release that follows their recent cover of ‘Strange Fruit’. For this special seasonal release, they have worked with fellow Slovenian artists, Silence, to examine the comforting bauble that adorns everyone’s festive season, and challenge people to scrutinise what lies beneath its warm veneer.

‘White Christmas’ was originally written by Irving Berlin – a Russian-born Jewish immigrant who didn’t celebrate Christmas – for the 1942 musical, Holiday Inn. The Bing Crosby version of the song, which reminisces about an old-fashioned Christmas, is not only the best-selling Christmas song of all time, it’s also the best-selling single ever according to Guinness World Records. True to the season, the song has an inherent melancholia about it, and was dedicated to Irvin Berlin’s three-week old son who died on Christmas Day.

Laibach – in collaboration with their compatriots Silence – invite us to consider what future Christmases, with the aggressive climate and political changes around the world, will look like. Let this track be a weapon in the war against misery and unhappiness.

Earlier this year the band released the remastered edition of Laibach’s classic album, Opus Dei and later this month, Record Store Day (29 November) will mark the first ever vinyl release of the band’s legendary John Peel Sessions. These sessions unveiled the first inklings of what Opus Dei would be, and the band’s 12-month salute to their 1987 album continues in December with the release of Opus Dei Revisited, which features two radical new interpretations of the album – one by Laibach, and the other by original producer Rico Conning.

Ever since the release of his first cassette on the renowned and legendary Cologne-based label Entenpfuhl in 1993, Jo Zimmermann aka Schlammpeitziger grants an international audience insights into his private cosmos. The musician, graphic artist and tireless inventor of increasingly strange song titles with a ribald as well as subtle humour has been coining a highly distinctive style for these last 15 years. On his new album he demonstrates how to combine artistic development and remaining true to oneselves’ style.

On “Schwingstelle für Rauschabzug”, Schlammpeitziger discovers deep frequencies and pulsating beats. And all of a sudden, his tried and tested combination of eloquent melodies (which more often than not seem to lead a life of their own) and lively rhythms acquires a completely new pull. With this album, Jo Zimmermann pulses his listeners (and surely himself) into hypnosis. This new quality transforms Schlammpeitziger’s music in a remarkable way: it remains friendly and weird, but gains in seriousness and depth. And in physicalness. Where we used to nod with our heads we are now inclined to exercise our pelvic floor. Beneath all those subsonic donnybrook basslines and the synthlines which stimulate our laugh muscles, each track has a second and a third level to be discovered. It’s always a joy to realize how cunningly Jo Zimmermann palms his musical depth off on us. This kind of club-suitable pop music (or radio friendly club music?) possesses hidden qualities which readily disclose themselves on a second or third listening. And all of a sudden, one is confronted which a wholly new piece of music. This musical “double entendre” was already hinted at on the last album “Everything Without All Inclusive” (sonig 32CD/LP). Now it has become Schlammpeitziger’s new musical trademark. Still, each track is capable of telling long and complex stories (which are often triggered by their titles). Still, the listener is caught up in a net of intricately woven melodic lines. And we still love to dive deep into the depths of Schlammpeitziger’s three dimensional sound vaults and his sturdy beats.
“Schwingstelle Für Rauschabzug” is mixed by Andi Toma (Mouse On Mars/Von Südenfed) at St. Martin Tonstudio, Düsseldorf. Track 10 (on the CD) is a remix by Pingipung’s Springintgut who recently released an album on City Centre Offices. Furthermore the CD contains a beautiful video to the track “Rastplatz Rastlos” by video artist Ulrike Göken (responsible for Schlammpeitziger’s live visuals & other music videos).

Armenian-American producer, songwriter and vocalist KÁRYNN has shared the result of an incredible meeting of minds as Cosey Fanni Tutti (Throbbing Gristle co-founder, musician, performance artist, and author) remixes her single, ‘the REAL’.

Listen to the urgent propulsive rhythms of the remix HERE, where Cosey lends her signature tones and sequencing to create a sense of delirious lamination with KÁRYYN’s original James Ford co-produced track, which The Guardian described on release as “techno-symphonic grandeur”.

Cosey Fanni Tutti’s remix is featured in a new EP, KÁRYYN REMIXED, which collates remixes from HAAi and Airspace, alongside an expansive strings reworking of the track by composer and violinist Raven Bush (member of the Ivor Novello Award winning Speaks Corner Quartet).

HAAi’s remix of KÁRYYN’s single, ‘the REAL’. The new remix injects the Australian electronic producer and DJ’s sonic psychedelia into the original.

The original version of ‘the REAL’ opens KÁRYYN’s five-track Calm KAOSS! EP (“a stylistic triumph” – Clash), which featured ‘ODAR’ and ‘Calm KAOSS!’. The EP, which served as a bridge to carry KÁRYYN from her formative inspirations into the future, was followed by ‘Ground’, a co-production between KÁRYYN, Hudson Mohawke and James Ford, which featured in a high-profile campaign for Apple.
