The XSL album launch will be on Monday, 18th of May. The release consists of a 10-track album by various artists who joined the open collaboration. The album will be presented as a free digital release, with the option to pay for it if you want to support the project.
The XSL project compiled sounds from more than 50 artists around the world, thereby developing a sound library for the production of the album. Sounds were made available online for free and after three months the open collaboration closed with 37 entries, from which we made a selection for the compilation.
The XSL started with the idea of integrating social creativity in the compositional process. The aim is to develop a culture of interaction and exchange and to raise a creative community striving for innovation; thus facilitating the emergence of new ideas. The XSL will be presented at Sónar Festival by Davic Nod who will play a set with the sounds collected for the project.
In case you are interested, it is still possible to get for free the collection of +2 GB of sounds including recordings from sound installations, the new instrument Arpasauro inspired by harp and organ, underwater recordings with a custom made hydrophone, field-recordings of wild insects, frogs, rain, thunderstorms, sea waves, planes, machines, samples of ceramics, stones, household percussion, vinyl crackle, a clavichord, a violin, a japanese choir, a vocal of a poem, analog synthesizers, drones, pads, sci-fi soundscapes…

Press Info (English):
Zeigeist started as a creative project in Sweden 2005. The idea was to find a meeting between the different members profession, and experience how the different subject fields could be vitalized with help from each other: stage performance, storytelling, film and photography, publicity, fashion, styling, graphic design and composition/music.
During the last 2,5 years the project has developed in different ways, and the part of Zeigeist as a music live act with visual elements has been fortified. With influences like Matthew Barney, Comme des garçons, Peter Greenaway, Andy Warhol, David Lynch and Alexander McQueen they have made performances – from small club events with experimental elements to big festival performances with dramatic lines and stories. ”Like a degenerated children’s party with paint, blood, feathers and confetti, mixed with haute couture, video projections, strobe and punchy pop music”. The goal is to make the performances in constant development; the audience shall never know what they can expect.
With focus on the music, Zeigeist has provided themselves a style influenced by the greatest hits through the pop history with a starting point in the 80’s well-produced pop, mixed with lyrics and stories with dystopian undertones. The colorful singer, Princess, has best been described as “this century’s perfect hybrid of Kate Bush and Cyndi Lauper”. Zeigeist became a name when Tar Heart – their newordervisage-influenced song about a young lovers nightly secrets – got in focus in magazines, blogs, TV and radio. Among others Pitchfork Media (US) listed the unmastered demo version as one of the best tracks 2006.
The debut album “The Jade Motel”, with ten stories about longing, destructivity and unconditional love, with the music as a glaring colored fond; will be released in Sweden 30th of April on the label Spegel.
