BITE01

Release Date:
26th March 2018

Format:
vinyl & digital

Tracklist:
A1.
Plastic Motion

B1.
Confess

B2.
Tausend Heilige

Press Info:
Phase Fatale (Hayden Payne) and Silent Servant (Juan Mendez) started their collaboration in 2016 performing together live at several Jealous God showcases across Europe, such as Berlin Atonal, and then working together on Payne’s Redeemer Extended Mix 12” from his album on Hospital Productions last year. The Confess EP on BITE is a studio documentation of those aforementioned live performances and harnesses the cathartic energy of the stage into a physical medium.

The EP opens up with “Plastic Motion,” a techno track that is full of layers of subsonic pulsations, monolithically consuming the entire A-side. The sounds of the sirens are balanced against heavily stylized basslines moving in and out of the framework while bursts of white noise appear through the fog, creating a telekinetic hallucination. The B-side starts with the title track “Confess.” A ruthless song that crushes together bass-heavy broken beat rhythms with straight-ahead kicks and snares. It’s about to burst out of its seams any minute as psychedelic synths and buried vocals command it all to stay together.

The closing track, “Tausend Heilige,” ups the pace to a motorik rhythm, driving underneath the wings of metallic synths and steady pounding drums. Meanwhile, the lamenting choir strings and dusty vocals swell to a stuttering electric signal. With the three tracks from the Confess EP, Phase Fatale and Silent Servant create a cinematic soundscape that has shed its skin and has brought to life a new interpretation of contemporary techno music.

Tracklist:

A2.
Cypher

B1.
Cypher
(Cadency’s Dramatic Science Remix)

B2.
Cypher
(Viers Remix)

Press Info:
After a more than well-received first release, Interstate Records is back with a shimmering and diverse EP. Featuring two original cuts by the label heads Dial Tone on the A-Side, plus two outstanding remixes on the flipside, the record serves as a fitting successor to the label´s thriving start.

On ‘Lucid’, the title track, Dial Tone show their distinctive skill to create an ongoing trip and let the listener immerse in its energetic melancholia. ‘Cypher’ kicks off on a slightly deeper note, however, only until a dazzling synthesizer line drills itself through the drums.

The B-Side contains two remixes of ‘Cypher’. Cadency (also known as Héctor Oaks) transforms the track into a fully equipped dance floor bomb. The chopped up, reverberated synth and the somewhat weirdly shivering percussions make the track stand out as a perfect example of Cadency’s signature sound.

The final track of the record is a dreamy cut by Figure affiliate Viers. After slightly more functional releases on Len Faki’s label, the man from Leeds shows his spherical and cinematic side – nailed it!

Press Info:
It’s early 2018 and we’re itching to pull the trigger.

If I’m totally honest we’ve felt this way since January 2016, when our desire to launch our vinyl catalog reared it’s head for the 3rd or 4th time. We’d made a point to each other of not rushing into it, not for fear’s sake but because as a team, we place great importance on an essential combination of creativity and project planning.

Combining these 2 keys factors has always served us well, right from our digital catalog through to ABYSS | FEATURES and now into our vinyl catalog too, this setup facilitates the creative flexibility to curate and design releases that work both audibly and aesthetically.

Over the last 24 months we’ve focused vast amounts of time and invested a small fortune into creating a truly unique vinyl experience, covering all bases including mastering by professional mastering engineer Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering in London, distribution by TripleVision Distribution and 4 expertly crafted contributions to our new vinyl catalog from renowned techno artists; Rommek, Yuji Kondo, Snitch and Michal Jablonski.

The creative process started out like any other creative project, a minefield of ideas and contributions from the whole team swirled and spooled as we generated concept after concept, some were well formed and others not so but ultimately they were all leading in the same direction.

As the first few months of 2016 ticked by our eagerness to get moving with the vinyl catalog was looming ominously in the background, we had deduced from our idea generation that we were seeking a thick and atmospheric yet balanced sound palette for the release, but we were yet to decide on potential artists.

By this point we had all of the ‘necessaries’ thought out, which left us in a slight dilemma, having already agreed on a solid sound and having planned the majority of the release without the tracklist meant we were on the look out for a very specific collection of music.
