Amsterdam-based artist and Format-label honcho Juan Sanchez himself delivers a quartet of tracks carrying his signature sound for the label’s thirteenth release.
Never one to settle for the ordinary, Juan Sanchez’ latest outing follows a more conceptual approach to techno. Each track adds its own flavor to the mix, with the EP as a whole being a combination of dubby and dancefloor-fused material. Synth and bass arps, stripped grooves and driving drums are the main ingredients of Juan’s sound, all of which come together across this EP’s four-track canvas. The result is a balanced mix of both dubby and dancefloor-tinged techno laced with experimental twists and turns.
With his new release, Juan adds another quality slice of techno to the Format roster.

What is a better way to link a track title to the labels name. No idea, it’s just a coincidence that Floating is called Floating. Leghau makes his debut on Float Records and his tracks are spot on into the direction we love. Floating is one of the modest tracks out there with such depth and subtleness. If you’re not really into modest directions; In Order To is the one for you. Straight forward with some balls. Oppressive Environment feels like a slightly haunted groovy carousel while Time is totally out of control.

Induction’s Remix EP can be considered as a true Ravage family affair. The EP starts and ends with takes on Theological Explanation; Tadeo delivers an hypnotic version with a lot of drive, and – it may sound counterintuitive – Zadig dives into the deep as well, with an outstanding, euphoric and ethereal mix. Both tracks turn out to be quite true-to-self reworks of the offbeat original. On A2, Birth of Frequency altered the ambient intro Epitrachelion into a soft, melodic, functional electro track that oozes refinement and a bit nostalgic comfort.
The B-side starts with As Patria’s signature sound, giving a new interpretation to a previously unreleased production called Oxygen Swamp. Melancholic hisses, softly rattling hats and light synth-work all contribute to the overall feeling of their remix. The same goes for Samuli Kemppi, who took on Back in my Amnesia, giving it the ghetto-house-treatment, indulged with rave influences.
