Press Info:
Amsterdam’s Keith Carnal delivers his debut album this November on his new SEC NDº imprint entitled ‘Retrofit’.

Keith Carnal grew up in a musical home in the northern part of Holland, with techno being the first type of music that made a lasting impression on him. After releases on labels such as ARTS and Affin, Keith launched his own SEC NDº imprint in late 2018 to showcase his atmospheric yet sparkling productions which have been held in high esteem throughout the techno scene for many years. After two successful EP’s on the label that picked up support from the likes of Len Faki, Marcel Fengler, Matrixxman and many more, Keith felt that it was time to show what he can do as producer with his debut album being the result: The album, Retrofit, is a reflection of my inspiration based on the music I grew up with. It especially emphasizes on the neo-noir movies and the music that came with those movies. Think of Blue Velvet, Blade Runner, Twin Peaks, True Romance, etc. But it also is inspired on events that took place in my life, think of weekends without sleep and going to parties in Berlin and here in Amsterdam. Clubs like Trouw, Berghain and the Gashouder that helped me in finding the sound I stand for today. But also from my youth where I’d listen to every kind of genre up my attic bedroom, hours and hours each day. “Retrofit” basically means modernising vintage technology. This term really seemed “fit” for what the labels encompasses. The album includes 10 tracks, which go from instrumental to the more club ready kind of tracks. – Keith.

‘Neo-Noir’ kicks off the album with humming drones balanced with a revolving drum loop and stirring tension before making room for ‘Sprinkle Dust’ that lays focus on wavering 303 sequences, undulant, angelic leads and resonating, chuggy kicks. ‘Take it From Me’ fuses growling modulations with hypnotic pads and shimmering subs that progress throughout until ‘Way Back When’ provides an emotive atmosphere through euphoric synths and alleviating ambience. Melancholy melodies sprinkled with euphoric keys and humming reverberations then provide mesmerizing feelings throughout ‘You Look Beautiful’.

‘One-on-One’ together with ‘Not Your Ordinary’ pick up the energy with effervescent, dancefloor-ready techno cuts featuring vibrant percussion, thrilling oscillations and transcendental sound design. ‘Fresh Needle’ offers up crunchy compositions, sweeping tones and storming synthesis while ‘Moving Molecules’ delivers tender melodic flutters harmoniously balanced with immersive sound design and captivating energy. ‘Pillow Talk’ provides a dramatic finish as the sparse textures, tantalizing harmonics and cinematic swells round off this incredibly enchanting album.

Press Info:
Today we present you a young talent from Lyon city, in the south of France. Cofounder of the label @rafalerecords with his friends Fitzgeraldos, he has been producing for now 6 years, and is still pushing it even further.

Assembling raw chords and melodic pads with touches of industrial and acid sounds, L’Ätlas created its own strong sound footprint.

This rigorous approach led L’Ätlas to play in various hot spots of south of France such as the Demain Kollektiv parties.

On his side, Fitzgeraldos provided a chaotic remix with striking broken-beats and heavy percussions. Definitely an artist to watch for.

Listen to this 4-tracker EP including a remix of Fitzgeraldos, devoted to your gentle ears…

Press Info:
Planning the imminent arrival of the 50th release on Touchin’ Bass, label boss Andrea Parker was digging through the warehouse during a stock take and it became apparent that there was something missing. There was a gap in the catalogue numbers. Where was TB036? Searching the archives it transpired that, for one reason or another (not least Parker’s inability to count), there actually wasn’t one. So what better way to backfill this now documented gap than to welcome the multitalented guitarist and drummer, mathematician and multidisciplinary improviser, Maria Gamboa Perez into the Touchin’ Bass fold with an updated focus for 2019.

Perez combines elements of rage, chaos, tension and anguish to form a visceral style. Her musical terrain and talent is shaped by dissonance and NO art. Under the moniker NonZero!, Perez brings ‘Matrix Equation’ to the fore; a heavy 8 track EP with electro aesthetics from none other than Carl Finlow [Scarletron / Silicon Scally / Voice Stealer].

Beginning her artistic career as a teenager playing as a bassist and guitarist in groups with influences from Noise, Avant Garde and the No-Wave, Perez was introduced into several areas of electronic music during the club culture years in Madrid and opted for styles such as Electro or Industrial, at which point she began to be interested in the introduction of rhythm boxes together with traditional drums.

Her passion for sound synthesis and musical exploration led Perez to introduce electronics into a solo project under the pseudonym NonZero!. Under this name she aims to make electronic music her field of sound research and for years has been continuously searching for existing relationships between sound and mathematics, focusing on the perceptual limit between music and noise.

‘Matrix Equation’ indulges in an evidential brooding angst, shifting between abstraction and the kind of elevated introspection carefully harvested over the years. With dramatic frontage in parts, blasts of boisterous energy and machine mayhem, its deployment of surprise, shifting focus and spontaneity operate in an assured statement.

Splintered beats and a foreboding sense of tension give way to a more DJ friendly logic of instinctive introductions and codas of gradual builds and breakdowns as Finlow further reworks the results to great effect.

This strong and accomplished EP has rightly earned its place in the Touchin’ Bass catalogue but is also worthy of attention from outside of the usual territory.
