Press Info:
NATO is the seventh in a sequence of official Laibach LP releases that have artistically redefined the political map of Europe. The LP’s themes are flagged by the single release of Europe’s Final Countdown. The NATO title is taken from the initials of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation, the mutual military support group founded in 1949 by the USA, Canada and various European countries. Following the break-up of the Soviet bloc, NATO has recently signed friendship treaties with Russia and other former Warsaw Pakt countries with the aim of promoting peace and prosperity in the upper Northern hemisphere. Meanwhile, in the Balkans, the war goes on.Now Laibach take NATO where NATO itself has refused to go. The selections on NATO: the album have been determined by the group’s response to changing Europe and changing world orders.

Before NATO, these songs had a different life, carried different meanings. Choosing to re-work pre-existing materials is a Laibach tradition extending as far back as “Panorama” – their second single release – a superbly drilled disco record also based on Mars, from Holst’s Planet suite.

As with their later takes of Queen, The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, these NATO appropriations operate on a number of levels. First and foremost they can be enjoyed at a purely musical level, for this is possibly Laibach’s most musically considered album. Its combination of characteristic Laibach – big choruses, martial sound and beats – and contemporary electronic dance technology makes it their most accessible release since Let It Be. Once seduced by its surface attractiveness, you find yourself entering the Laibach labyrinth of meanings and motivations. In context of NATO and the new political-cultural map in which they’re placed, these sons are now weighted with different significance’s. Yet traces of their original meanings resonate through Laibach’s re-models- and understanding Laibach’s original versions.

For the Laibach method is based on the premise that traumas from the past affecting the present and future can only be healed by returning to the initial conflict. Tracking the traces of these original songs brings you to the source of present traumas.

Press Info:
Depeche Mode – Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher – are unique. For nearly 25 years they have been making groundbreaking music, which has influenced generations of artists.

Depeche Mode have always been at the vanguard of remix culture since its inception, and the history of Depeche Mode is inextricably linked with the history of the remix. Very early on in their career the band worked closely and extensively with up and coming remixers who would go on to become pivotal figures in the field including Francois Kevorkian, Adrian Sherwood, William Orbit, Portishead and Air.

“Remixes 81-04” is a 2-disc set spanning over 20 years of Depeche Mode’s pioneering remixes. Almost a greatest hits collection, the album is a compendium of Depeche Mode classics remixed by some of the best remixers in the world, including Underworld, Goldfrapp, Air, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Timo Maas, Flood and of course Depeche Mode themselves. It is also released as a limited edition triple disc set, featuring a bonus disc of highly collectable and rare remixes. At once a celebration but also an historical record of the evolution of the remix, the album is a fascinating and deeply rewarding document of an emerging art form.

Highlights include a brand new remix of “Halo” by Goldfrapp, “Barrel Of A Gun” by Underworld, “Home” remixed by Air as well as a new mix of “Enjoy The Silence” by Mike Shinoda.

The limited edition bonus CD features remixes of “A Question of Lust” by Flood and “World In My Eyes” by Daniel Miller plus a William Orbit mix of “Walking In My Shoes” and a Danny Tenaglia mix of the hypnotic and seductive “I Feel Loved”. Also included are brand new mixes by Goldfrapp, Ulrich Schnauss, Colder and Rex the Dog.

The release of this album will be preceded by the single, “Enjoy The Silence”, featuring mixes by Mike Shinoda, Timo Maas and Ewan Pearson, plus additional tracks mixed by LFO, Blackstrobe, Goldfrapp and Headcleaner. The single is released October 18th on Mute Records (October 19th on Reprise Records).

“Depeche Mode is one of the most influential groups of our time”, says Mike Shinoda on one of his favourite bands, “Their music is an inspiration to me, and I am excited for our fans to hear my take on one of my favourite Depeche Mode songs.”

Alison Goldfrapp adds: “Depeche Mode are the only electronic band to have risen above their own genre and it was a privilege to have worked on such a great track”.

A sentiment echoed by Timo Maas; “We were proud to be asked to remix, “Enjoy The Silence”…. but Depeche Mode are a seminal band and the track is one of the top 10 all time classics… it wasn’t easy when the melodies are burned in your brain. I think it worked out pretty well though”.

“It’s a dangerous business messing with the classics”, confides Ewan Pearson, “I always swore blind I’d never do a remix of something I loved so much, but of course, when you’re asked it’s impossible to say no. “Enjoy the Silence” is one of my favourite singles of all time – I still have my battered 7 inch copy and I guess its one of the reasons why I decided to make music myself in the first place.”

Martin Gore reflecting on the Depeche Mode remix era said, “It’s an amazing feeling to sit back and listen to such an interesting mix of artists take the spirit of Depeche Mode and add another dimension”.

Press Info:
(Arguably) The world’s first manufactured electronic pop band. Comprised of members Darryl, Jacki, Paul and Diane, Silicon Teens were the brainchild of producer Larry Least.

Ahead of their time both in concept and sound, but unfortunately they only released one album, Music for Parties, following the release musical differences drove the band apart, but their profile was raised when John Hughes used the track Red River Rock prominently in his film Planes, Trains and Automobiles which starred John Candy and Steve Martin. The album includes re-imagined rock n roll classics like Let’s Dance, Memphis Tennessee and You Really Got Me.

Originally released in September 1980, the second album to be released by the independent record label Mute, Daniel Miller’s successful company which he launched with his own single under the moniker The Normal and worked closely with Frank Tovey.

Press Info:
biography
Formed in 1982 by schoolfriends Douglas McCarthy [vocals], Bon Harris [drums, percussion] and the now-departed David Gooday, Nitzer Ebb [pronounced night-zer ebb] set out to terrorize the UK dance scene with industrial power rhythms and disturbing, fierce lyrical themes. Fourth member Simon Granger, also from Chelmsford, Essex, still provides the concepts for the design, artwork and imagery of a band whose growing international success makes them one of hard-beat’s leading exponents.

Beginning with shows in their local area, Nitzer Ebb’s mix of energetic anger and militaristic imagery soon saw them appearing in dance clubs and concert halls around the UK. In 1984, attention-grabbing London dates saw them introduced to PWL producer Phil Harding. Together they formed their own label – Power Of Voice Communications – and in 1985 released their debut single “Isn’t It Funny How Your Body Works?”.

Three more singles followed, each establishing the group further in club circles – particularly in Europe. By November 1986 Nitzer Ebb had signed to Mute and another single, “Murderous”, revealed an even more brutal subversion of dance beats. Second Mute single “Let Your Body Learn” began to make waves in the clubs of New York and the follow-up – the extraordinary “Join In The Chant” – became an unlikely hit on the acid/balearic scene in 1987. Debut album “That Total Age” summed up their career thus far in May of that year.

By the release of second album “Belief” in January 1989, Harding and Gooday were gone, as was the militaristic imagery which had led to a misunderstanding of their political stance in some quarters. Veteran producer Flood, of U2, Depeche Mode and Erasure fame helped the two-piece create a more subtle sound – a progression continued through 199O’s “Showtime” and 1991’s “Ebbhead” – which achieved considerable success in Europe and the States.
