Recoil is the musical project of former Depeche Mode member, Alan Wilder, and Mute will release the project’s last three albums Liquid, Unsound Methods and subHuman. Originally a solo venture for Alan’s more experimental work outside of Depeche, Recoil became his primary music project after he announced his departure from the band in 1995.

The Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet, Rosa Torras, Diamanda Galás, Nicole Blackman, Samantha Coerbell, and others power Alan Wilder’s passionate yet unsettling Recoil album, Liquid. Released in 2000, Liquid possesses a hypnotic and deeply charged allure drawn from its intense tapestry of desire, fury and violence. Recoil is the musical project of former Depeche Mode member, Alan Wilder, and Mute will release the project’s last three albums Liquid, Unsound Methods and subHuman. Originally a solo venture for Alan’s more experimental work outside of Depeche Mode, Recoil became his primary music project after he announced his departure from the band in 1995.

After a 6-year break from recording, Alan Wilder returned with Recoil’s fifth studio album, subHuman. This dark electronic album, which sets the listener a challenge to analyse what makes us human and subHuman, is a collaboration with bluesman Joe Richardson, who Wilder came across via a Google search. Richardson provided guitar, harmonica and eerie vocals dealing with themes of murder, death, and religion. Singer Carla Trevaskis llent her ethereal vocals on ‘Allelujah’.

Yann Tiersen has shared a new remix by Laurel Halo, and announced details of a 12” collating reworkings from his 2021 album Kerber. Kerber Remixes will be available on strictly limited edition white vinyl and digitally via Mute on 26 August 2022.

The remix 12” includes remixes and reworkings from Terence Fixmer, Beatrice Dillon, Laurel Halo, Iku Sakan and two remix competition winners, Sote and Simon Sky.

While Kerber saw Tiersen incorporating modular synthesis and sampling into the recording process, his follow up album, 11 5 18 2 5 18, was born from further experimentation in the studio as the artist prepared for a performance at Berlin’s modular and synthesiser festival, Superbooth. Using samples as his source, Tiersen has resampled, reprogrammed and recomposed existing audio to create entirely new tracks unrecognisable and decontextualised from their original versions. The album completes a story he started Kerber but where that took a more nuanced and subtle approach, 11 5 18 2 5 18 brings the listener into new sonic spaces.

This new remix 12” bridges the worlds of Kerber and 11 5 18 2 5 18, pushing the tracks further onto the dancefloor and opening them up to new processes.

A1. Polygonia – Division
Right from the start the listener is cast into orbit with driving percussion and abstract sound effects. Soon they are followed with a morphing bass sound and cymbals which lock the groove into place, cranking the drive to the max. As the track progresses the landscape of sound reveals its nature with metallic quality, like schrapnel from a barren city. Truly a Deep Techno banger which will without a doubt fill a dance floor.

A2. MTRL – Taris
The listener is slowly submerged into the waves of percussive bass sounds and menacing sweeps of noise which remind of a storm in a desert, the horizon only slightly glimmering behind the veil of sand. Soon the listener is introduced with a pounding kick drum, almost making the landscape seem even more ruthless as the track progresses.
Quality, heady Deep Techno.

B1. Polygonia – Division (Claudio PRC Remix)
The hypnotic Techno maestro Claudio PRC twists the idea of the original track into a mind explorative voyage with a triplet feel. The remix is shrouded in melancholy with distant pad sounds, which add a nice tension to the track. As usual, a brilliant remix from Claudio PRC.

B2. MTRL – Taris (Mary Yuzovskaya Remix)
On the remix the Berlin based producer is molding the source material into a driving and psychedelic track, functional yet synapse tingling. Now the bass has a bit more liquid-like quality and the overall soundscape is more abstract. Hallucinatory effects of noise are filling the spaces between the sounds, almost like being surrounded with faint whispers. Driving and psychedelic Deep Techno done with finesse.
