Press Info:
NovaMute welcome ANNA for the Brazilian producer’s first EP on the seminal imprint.

“It’s such an honour to be working with NovaMute. Daniel Miller is a legend and a few years ago I’d never even imagined this would ever happen, such are the happy coincidences in life! Now we’re here and Razor EP is done and it all feels a bit surreal.”

The first track ‘Razor’, which has already been getting a great reaction when played out, came about while playing with her MKS-80 from Roland, an old synth from 1985 and one of ANNA’s favourites. You can hear the fat and juicy sound on the breakdown and ever evolving throughout.

‘Escapism’ plays with trippy arpeggios that lay down the atmosphere for the whole track, it feels really dense but still powerful, making use of heavier drum sounds for the groove.

The last track on the EP, ‘Dreamweaver’, is a simple one that always works well on the dance floor. ANNA reworked ‘Dreamweaver’ many times before deciding to strip down the beat and focus on the final sequence; sometimes the simple ideas are the ones that work the best.

Forthcoming releases on NovaMute will include new EPs from Charlotte de Witte, Terence Fixmer and Nicolas Bougaïeff

Seine Beziehung zum Label beschreibt Liebing so: “Without realising, a lot of the music I was into came from just one label, Mute. I vividly remember dancing around to songs by Depeche Mode and Yazoo and banging my head in dark basements to the likes of DAF, Laibach and Nitzer Ebb. Things came full circle when I found myself in the Mute office and I’m delighted to be working with Daniel Miller, someone I’ve known for years and Mute, a label I have known for longer still.”

Daniel Miller ergänzt: “After meeting up with Chris at numerous techno events, exchanging music and discussing ideas for many years, it was great to hear new music by him again and we’re delighted that he’s part of the Mute family.”

Press Info (English):
Chris Liebing and Mute are delighted to announce his signing to the label and the release of a brand new track, ‘Novembergrey’.

Listen to ‘Novembergrey’, Liebing’s debut release on Mute and a taste of what to expect from future releases.

Liebing explains his relationship with the label: “Without realising, a lot of the music I was into came from just one label, Mute. Things came full circle when I found myself in the Mute office and I’m delighted to be working with Daniel Miller, someone I’ve known for years and Mute, a label I have known for longer still.”

Daniel Miller, talking about the new signing, said: “After meeting up with Chris at numerous techno events, exchanging music and discussing ideas for many years, it was great to hear new music by him again and we’re delighted that he’s part of the Mute family.”

Press Info:
Five years after his critically acclaimed debut Drone Logic, London-based producer Daniel Avery has announced the release of his highly anticipated second album Song For Alpha, set for release on 6th April 2018, via Phantasy.

In the years since his debut, Avery has helmed a DJ-Kicks mix CD, resided over a monthly radio show for NTS Live, curated an extensive remix compilation and collaborated on a series of side-projects including a recent release with Nine Inch Nails synth specialist Alessandro Cortini; he has toured relentlessly, cementing a reputation as one of the defining techno DJs of the decade. He has also worked studiously on what he wanted to say next as a producer.

Song For Alpha is Avery’s exploration of the space in which home listening and club music intersect, in no small part inspired by his transient life spent between nightclubs, flights, the passenger seats of cars and hotel rooms. He confirms, “Drone Logic’s spiritual home was the dancefloor. This record’s is definitely the road. Those late nights and hazy mornings, finding inspiration beyond the fog.”

With newfound energy and time to develop, Avery’s sonic vocabulary has expanded. Here, the booming sound of the big room is brilliantly countered by the music of the small hours. Where celestial ambient lullabies ‘First Light’ and ‘Days From Now’ sit perfectly next to the mesmeric techno assault of ‘Diminuendo’ and ‘Sensation’; where both ‘Projector’ and ‘Clear’ evoke early rave records, only ones engulfed by waves of beautiful cyclonic distortion. Much like his recent excursions with Cortini, Song For Alpha sees Avery take his signature psychedelic-electronic sound to new dimensions, a sound that plays to the head as much as the body.

“I’ve become increasingly interested in those moments in a club when the outside world becomes little more than an inconsequential thought at the back of your head. Eyes closed as opposed to hands in the air. A light emerging from the darkness – this is the idea I repeatedly returned to in the studio. The more time you spend with it the deeper you fall. Close your eyes, press repeat.”

Press Info:
Following the surprise release of his Slow Fade EP last month, Daniel Avery presents a collection of remixes from Surgeon, Actress and Inga Mauer. The remix EP will be released digitally and on 12” vinyl on March 9th.

Widely regarded as one of UK electronic music’s leading lights and “arguably the finest techno DJ in the world” (FACT), with a career spanning over 20 years, Surgeon lends his clinical touch to ‘Radius’, adding an erratic, propulsive beat to Avery’s warm synth layers for one of his best remixes yet.

Werkdiscs head Actress meanwhile delivers a pared back and introspective rework of ‘Slow Fade’, shrouding the synth refrain in hypnotic, distorted production, in his first remix following the release of his critically acclaimed 2017 album AZD.

Bunker Records’ Inga Mauer completes the package, offering a claustrophobic mix pierced with metallic shards that confirms what Resident Advisor said of the uncompromising Russian-born Amsterdam-based DJ and producer last year: “Mauer is destined for big things.”

Press Info:
Five years after his critically acclaimed debut Drone Logic, London-based producer Daniel Avery announces his highly anticipated second album Song For Alpha, set for release on April 6th 2018 on Phantasy. The album is preceded on January 19th by a 4-track limited edition 12” vinyl EP titled Slow Fade.

A prelude to the LP’s sonic exploration of the twilight world of a personal, transient life spent between clubs, hotel rooms, airports and home, Slow Fade captures the expanded foundations of Avery’s sonic palette. Arresting club moments linger under the surface, but the focus is on the smudged ambience that underpin Avery’s grasp on rave euphoria.

As a re-entry into a broader musical universe, ‘Slow Fade’ is immediately compelling, combining neo-acid, feedback loops and pure atmosphere at a patient but restrained pace. Meanwhile, ‘After Dark’ alters this aesthetic to it’s raw, pensive elements, stripping Avery’s distinctive drums completely, revealing a meditative, ambient fog.

‘Radius’ announces itself with industrial intent, before unfolding seamlessly into a wistful electronic hymn, the perfect soundtrack to brooding London skies, and eventually evolving into slow-motion motorik. Closing the EP, ‘Fever Dream’ finds Avery at club tempo, but in a somewhat agitated state, on this occasion focusing on a paranoid rhythm that emerges clean from eerie, even paranoid territory.

Close your eyes, press repeat.
