[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: SN 1Ø54 plays Setaoc Mass

DJ:
SN 1Ø54

About the concept:
Here is the seventieth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

So the approach of each mix is clear: the choosen DJ/mixing artist makes a selection of tracks produced by one artist (and her/his monikers) or released on a label (and its sublabels) and creates a nice mix from it.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you SN 1Ø54’s mix of tracks & remixes by Setaoc Mass.

About SN 1Ø54:
She got into deep, atmospheric and moving forward techno music by raving nights at qualitative technoevents in Dresden, Leipzig & Berlin. Motivated by a friend she started soon to DJ by herself. She showed up at illegal raves and open airs, mainly together with the atopie crew (@atopiemusic) in Leipzig, followed by bigger gigs in Berlin and beyond.

For her, DJing comes close to therapy and through her sets she’s telling her story.

About Setaoc Mass:
As a DJ and producer, Setaoc Mass is part of a select cut of young artists who are absorbing techno’s legacy and carrying the torch into tomorrow. Whilst overseeing his own imprint SK_eleven, his releases push a galvanising brand of techno, steeped in a sense of urgency, ever-propulsive with acute detailing and nods to a futuristic space-age. In addition to a debut release on Len Faki’s Figure which has caught the eye of some of the scene’s most respected DJ’s. As a selector, the Mancunian’s extended DJ sets pull from an expansive spectrum of material both new and old.

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Robin Tasi plays DJ Misjah

DJ:
Robin Tasi

About the concept:
Here is the sixty-nineth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

Today we present you Robin Tasi’s mix of tracks & remixes by DJ Misjah (incl. collaborations).

About Robin Tasi:
Robin Tasi from Dortmund is one of the founders of the Podcast series and Party named “Acid Wave Podcast” (with Reshift) and also one of the founders of Dortmund’s Techno Party called “Sectæ”.

When Robin was five years old he was watching german VIVA Television after Kindergarden. At the age of 5 or 6 Robin got to know electronic music by listening to “Club Rotation” with moderator Daisy Dee. An offer was made by a friend to buy two Omnitronics Turntables and a Numark Mixer for learning to play with vinyls in the year 2011. Since then his passion to mix and play oldschool techno from the 1990s and early 2000s with new stuff grew bigger. Also a collaboration with Reduct (also from Dortmund) was born which got a release on Limited G., the sublabel of Limited by Andrea Belluzzi called “12.4”.

About DJ Misjah:
The name Misjah has been synonymous with quality dance floor productions for over 18 years. An innovator, an inspiration and living legend to many.

It all began in 1991 with releases under one of his alias’s “Dyewitness”. “Observing the earth”, “What would you like to hear”, “The Future” and “The Masterplan” already put his name on the map of dance floor hits forever. They are still considered all time classics.

After these releases, Midtown Records asked Misjah to start his own label for them; X-Trax was born on December 1994. He started producing tracks with the help of some friends: DJ Tim and Jeroen (Groovehead) Artists such as Ferry Corsten, Umek, and Piet Bervoets (Rank1) also had releases on X-Trax Classics from this label include: Trippin’ Out, The Club, Special Acid Edition, and of course “Access” which made it to the English charts in 1995.

Due to the huge success of X-Trax he was sought after by such artists like: Josh Wink, Jam and Spoon, Reflect, Format One, Finitribe, Denki Groove, etc to produce remixes for them.

Misjah has also produced under various artist/project names in different styles of dance music. In 1999 he started another project under the name “AMbassador”. It was under this name that he remixed “Blaze – My Beat”. His remix became a huge club hit and was used in the video clip. It also made it to the English charts.

In December 1999 he stopped doing the A&R for X-Trax. In 2001 he started a new label called ReRun and ReRun Booking’s DJ Agency. The agency is responsible for booking some major players in the techno scene such as Hardcell, Trevor Rockcliffe, etc.

He has released on numerous labels including: Craft Music, Automat, Wetmusik, Pocket, Zync, Mankind, Jericho, etc. Just to name a few. His tracks are being played by many high profile djs as: Adam Beyer, Sven Vath, Carl Cox , Judge Jules, etc.

Since his dj career took off in 1994, he has been traveling around the globe continuously to all continents. Playing at famous clubs and festivals including: Dance Valley, Roskilde, Mayday, Nature One, etc

As a DJ, Misjah has his own funky style. His sets contain bits and pieces of almost all styles of dance music from house to techno and from minimal to electro and everything in between.

In 2008 he started his monthly podcast “Misjah In The Mix” which is rapidly getting huge amount of radio play and downloads. He also recently switched from vinyl and cds to djing with Traktor DJ (vinyl and cd controlled of course).

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: James Demon plays Occultists

DJ:
James Demon

About the concept:
Here is the sixty-eighth instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

Today we present you James Demon’s mix of tracks released on Occultists.

About James Demon:
As a child this demon in the rising was drawn to a bevy of musical outlets. James Demon learned how to sing and to play the cello before even reaching high school. It was obvious that the universe had granted this boy with the gift of creativity. Little did he know that one day the music would become his entire world.

Literally growing up in the rave scene in the late 90s, James was exposed to a diverse range of music from techno to happy hardcore. Shortly after embarking on his musical voyage through the soundscapes of electronic music he began to buy his first techno records. Heavily influenced by female artists from Germany he began to spend every penny he had on vinyl. Once he graduated high school he finally got his first pair of turntables and so his journey continued.

Spending the next few years jumping from different styles James eventually fell back into his first love for techno. He decided to put all of his focus into finding his own sound and creating a brand for himself. Drawn towards the more obscure, dark, and gothic soundscapes, this techno loving being had finally found his niche. He was re-born with a mission at hand to solidify a harmony between polarities like masculine, feminine, the light and the darkness.

His love affair with music and the occult began to blossom into one entity. After studying music business in college, James was ready to commence on his next musical adventure. He decided it was time to bring his love for the esoteric and techno together in the form of a record label called Occultists. The label will feature artists who will emerge from the shadows bringing us to a higher state of being through music and esoteric knowledge.

About Occultists:
Occultists is a Berlin based record label inspired by label founder James Demon and his desire to merge his love for the occult with his passion for true techno into one entity. Mixing elements that range from goth, techno and acid to dark minimal, and infused with in-depth conscious vocals. However we are not limited to genre constraints, our vision is individualistic, unique and inclusive. We invite everyone to take part. Occultists is cultivated to present a rare opportunity to communicate esoteric knowledge through the universal language of music.

[NovaFuture Blog Exclusive Mix]: Tap Newo plays I Hate Models

DJ:
Tap Newo

About the concept:
Here is the sixty-seventh instalment of our series “abc plays xyz”.

The idea behind it is to ask some DJs/mixing artists if they have an artist or label in mind that they love and would like to use for a mix.

Find links to all instalments at our overview. Today we present you Tap Newo’s mix of tracks produced by I Hate Models.

About Tap Newo:
22 year old techno artist coming up in the Los Angeles warehouse techno scene. In 2018 I’ve gained support from outlets such as XLR8R, Change-Underground, Data Transmission, and 6am Group. My background is as a recording studio mix engineer with a bachelor’s degree in Sound Engineering and I currently spend most of my time in the studio working on productions. My music style could be considered a reflection of the streets of Los Angeles – deep atmospheres layered with grimy aggression.

About I Hate Models:
Pushed in front of the scene late in 2016 with his Warehouse Memories EP released on ARTS, “I Hate Models” has known an eye-popping ascent. With a variety of releases on labels such as ARTS, Voitax, T/W/B or Pls.uk, he is as eclectic in his productions as in his DJ sets, and navigates between Rave music, Industrial sounds or EBMish productions. He tries to not limit himself to a specifical genre, exploring all electronic universes, and succeeded to create a certain “touch” recognisable in his tracks, with an association between emotional synths and colder sounds. With an artistic line based on the expression of melancholia and intense emotions, his music can be characterised by a showdown between Love and Hate, Darkness and Light.

Tap Newo About His Choice:
I chose to mix I Hate Models due to how original his style is. He inspires me to think outside the box without thinking about other people’s opinions because I know he likes his music whether other people do or not. It is my goal to find my own lane within this massive scene that is techno. I admire the fact I Hate Models takes inspiration from other genres like ambient and synthwave. His come up over the last 2 years has been really impressive which has seriously lit a fire under my feet regarding my own career… if I Hate Models can make it, so can I.
