Info:
‘Body Echoes‘ is the first in a series of Artist-in-Residency performances on the 4DSOUND system by Lucy.

Using a system modular arrangement of 48 omnidirectional speakers, this concept will allow the performer to move sound across the room in infinite directions and transform the space itself into an engrossing environment. Lucy will explore the integration of breathing and sound with the help of cultural anthropologist and yoga teacher Amanda Morelli.

While Morelli performs deep-breathing techniques, Lucy will process live inputs taken from microphones embedded on Morelli’s body, utilizing the spatial dynamics of 4DSOUND’s capabilities. During Body Echoes, the listener only experiences organic sounds and vibrations sourced directly from her body, amplified and transformed, so the inner experience of Pranayama (the regulation of the breath through certain techniques and exercises) is now fully shared with the audience. In a multilayered feedback process, the sound of Morelli’s breathing is enriched by Lucy’s signal processing, which Morelli uses as an aural conducter to respond to the sounds Lucy creates. A precious tool to deepen the Pranayama practice itself.

That means translating the inner and individual experience of an incredibly powerful meditation technique into a language the audience can fully experience: Sound. This is why the participants are free to explore and walk through 4DSOUND’s speaker columns during Body Echoes. The Pranayama practicioner (Morelli) will therefore be able to share with the audience the benefits of what is being transformed from ‘breath therapy’ into fully immersive ‘sound therapy’. So moving from the inner space of the performing subject to the surrounding 4DSOUND landscape, and back to the subject, breath and sound will merge in a multidimensional, collective experience.

A discussion with Lucy and Amanda Morelli will take place after the performance.

Lucy is the nom de techno of Italian-born and Berlin-based Luca Mortellaro, one of the genre’s most exciting and ambitious DJ/producers. Since 2009, Mortellaro has focused his work through his own Stroboscopic Artefacts ts record label, building an imprint and personal discography that has established itself as one of electronic music’s finest.

Info:
For the first EDP of 2014 we’re heading to Club Lehmann in Stuttgart for a very special battle of the label bosses. Well, not quite. There’ll be no chest-bearing, ego-bating, head-to-heads here, just some premier techno from two of the finest figures in the scene today.

Their timelines may be a little skewed, as for everything else the parallels between Stroboscopic’s Lucy and EDLX’s own Speedy J are a little uncanny. Heads of visionary, forward-thinking labels, music connoisseurs and DJ extraordinaries both, it’s no wonder the pair have shared bills and booths on numerous occasions. Just as nerdy about sound design and equally left-of-centre when it comes to taste, it was a matter of time before they entered into the studio together. Last year’s abstract Zeitgeber collaboration was the result, which enjoyed its live outing at EDP in Paris back in November.

Tonight, however, they’ll be in solo guise. Speedy J will be doing what he does best. As for Lucy, he’ll be showcasing material from Churches Schools and Guns, his much-anticipated follow-up album to 2011’s Wordplay for Working Bees. A provocative title for a provocative album, this is certain to be an unmissable set from one of contemporary techno’s true luminaries. Simo Lorenz, Stuttgart native and favourite Club Lehman resident, completes the bill. Make that dancing shoes mandatory.
