Matias Aguayo, in Chile geboren und in Deutschland aufgewachsen, hat ein großes Spektrum an genreübergreifenden Arbeiten zu bieten. In welche Kategorie man seine Musik auch einordnen mag, der Ursprung seines Schaffens ist immer seine Stimme. Genauso wie in jüngeren Zeiten im Theater, wo er Regie geführt und geschauspielert hat, schlüpft Aguayo mit Hilfe seiner Stimme in verschiedene Rollen und imitiert Klänge und Geräusche um eine akustische Illusion zu erzeugen und die Grenzen zwischen Technik und Stimme zu verwischen. Er improvisiert mit verschiedenen Instrumenten und Mikrofonen und erreicht dadurch eine besondere Spontaneität auf seinen Alben, die auf seinen Auftritten von der Energie seines Publikums sogar noch verstärkt wird.
Das legendäre Kölner Techno Label Kompakt hat sich seiner angenommen und half Aguayo seine erste Soloscheibe „Are You Really Lost“ (2005), den 2009 erschienen Nachfolger „Ay Ay Ay“ und seine „Legende“ EP 2014 zu veröffentlichen.
Ständig unterwegs, um entweder Kunst- und Musikprojekte zu gründen, z.B. „Juventud Clandestina“ in Buenos Aires, oder um Underground Parties zu organisieren, wie in Köln (die ihn auch seiner „A Night At The Tilehouse“ EP, SoulJazz Records 2007 inspiriert haben), sein fast magnetisches Charisma lockt die unterschiedlichsten Freigeister, die keiner musikalischen Schule angehören und in keine Kategorie passen. Ihnen widmet er 2009 das Cómeme Projekt: ein lose organisiertes Kollektiv das verschiedenste Aktivitäten verfolgt. Es meidet traditionelle Label Tätigkeiten und beinhaltet Aguyos engen Freundeskreis und Arbeitsumfeld mit Aguayo selbst als Schnittstelle und Produzenten. Cómeme hat 2013 auch Aguyos aktuellstes Album „The Visitor“ veröffentlicht und ist in London, Köln, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Mexico City und Moskau aktiv.

Matias Aguayo, Chilean-born and German-raised, has made a hugely varied body of genre defying/melding work- a blend of deep shadows framed by blinding tropical sun. No matter the tag placed on his tracks, the primary focus and platform for building his music is, what he has always considered his main instrument, his voice. Calling upon his young adult background within the theatre (where he was directing, acting, and performing) Aguayo uses his voice to slip into different roles and imitate sounds to creating an aural illusion. This allows him to use a handful of machines and a microphone, to creating sonic ambiguity between vocals and instrumentation, bringing a surge of spontaneity to his recordings and intensely reactive improvisational element live sets as he feeds off the audience and layers his narratives.
Kompakt, the legendary Cologne-based techno label, has supported and released his music since his project Closer Musik (2001-2003), releasing his first solo record Are You Really Lost (2005), his second album Ay Ay Ay (2009), and continues to do so, releasing his latest EP, Legende (2014).
On his travels and tours, whether in Buenos Aires forming an arts and music project Juventud Clandestina [Clandestine Youth], or later street party happenings, or throwing underground parties in Cologne (Inspiring his A Night At The Tilehouse EP, SoulJazz Records-2007), Matias Aguayo has a magnetic personality that draws him to misfits and outsiders from all over the world that are making unique music and are free-thinking with regards to the musical process. Not one of these people would fit into a specific genre or school. He created Cómeme as a home for this motley crew.
Starting in 2009 Cómeme, is a loosely organised, yet flourishing complex of activity, that eschews traditional label strategies in favour of a collective that closely involves his friends and label-mates. Within its diverse catalogue, Cómeme has released Matias’ most recent album The Visitor (2013) and is a haven for adventurers making music as far and as near as London, Cologne, Santiago de Chile, Buenos Aires, Mexico City and Moscow.
Matias’ role in Comeme continues as a facilitator and old school style producer- using his resources and experience to help each artist to dive into their own music. He finds this is just as gratifying as working on his own releases- of which he always has many in the pipeline! It makes one wonder how Matias Aguayo finds time… If this was a job, then it would seem impossible, but Matias Aguayo’s work and career is instead a byproduct of his life and imagination- wrought with creative visions that make his efforts fantastical, as well as possible.
