Repressed for the very first time since their original release—and now remastered with today’s sound—these two classics from the 2000s, regularly played by the world’s leading DJs, are available digitally and on limited 10” red vinyl.

Originally released on Gigolo Records in the late ’90s and early 2000s, both tracks quickly became underground anthems. Played by legendary DJs such as Dave Clarke, Sven Väth, and many others, they were also named Tracks of the Year by renowned techno publications like Groove magazine.

With these two groundbreaking cuts, Terence Fixmer helped open a bold new chapter in the history of techno — giving birth to Techno Body Music (TBM), a genre blending the raw, industrial force of EBM with the driving energy of techno. Electrostatic, in particular, is considered a foundational track of this hybrid style.

Now regarded as true techno classics, Electrostatic and Electric Vision have stood the test of time and are still played regularly by DJs worldwide, continuing to energize dancefloors decades after their release.

This is the first official repress in over 20 years, and the first time these two cult tracks appear together on one record — sharper, louder, and more essential than ever.

Terence Fixmer’s new EP, ‘Magnetic North’ is out now, alongside an extended edition of THE PARADOX IN ME, Fixmer’s second album for Mute / NovaMute, which features three new tracks, ‘In Synthesis (Vocal Mix)’, ‘Razor Sharp (Version Two)’ and ‘Close to You (Live Version)’.

The new EP launches today with the video for a new track, ‘Magnetic North’, which explains Fixmer, “serves as a bridge between THE PARADOX IN ME and the sound of my future album, which will be lean towards the club, and be more techno, and hypnotic with raw sounds.”

Alongside ‘Magnetic North’ sits a brand new remix of ‘Evolve’ by German techno powerhouse Marcel Dettmann plus a remix of ‘Another End’ by German techno producer / DJ, and founder of Recorded Things imprint, Oliver Rosemann.

On THE PARADOX IN ME Fixmer stretches the limits of dance music by interlacing evocative, cinematic electronics with pounding, peak-time 4/4 pulses. “There’s always a fight between directions,” he says. “This album represents all the sounds I have within me.”

Fixmer burst onto the scene in the late 1990s, establishing the Planete Rouge label in 1998, and releasing a slew of influential 12″s under a pseudonym before Muscle Machine, his acclaimed debut album which pioneered a new genre that merging the sounds of EBM and Techno.

Not long later, he achieved a personal milestone, collaborating with Nitzer Ebb vocalist Douglas McCarthy for two albums as FixmerMcCarthy that bridged the gap between EBM and classic techno. And since then, he’s barely stopped for breath, remixing personal heroes like Front 242, Nitzer Ebb and Depeche Mode, as well as respected peers such as Ellen Allien, DJ Hell, Dave Clarke and Sven Väth, simultaneously building up a canon of work on CLR, Electric Deluxe, Ostgut-Ton and of course, Mute and NovaMute.

Fixmer’s passion for electronic music hums from every note and carefully engineered beat on the Magnetic North EP, and extended version of THE PARADOX IN ME, which plays almost like an autobiography, and assembles a world that’s tactile and strikingly visual, capturing the soul of the synthesizer in all its forms.

When Mute Records asked world famous techno artist, Terence Fixmer, to remix Nitzer Ebb in 2002, they had no idea that this venture would lead to the formation of a new project: Fixmer/McCarthy, especially since Douglas McCarthy, former singer of Nitzer Ebb had been out of the music scene for nearly seven years. None the less, this collaboration has brought together two talented artists from vastly different backgrounds to create a refreshing and exciting new electronic sound as well as an amazing stage presence.

For ten years Terence Fixmer has been involved in the techno scene, but it wasn’t until 1998 that he was signed to Gigolo Records. With this record deal, Fixmer was able to produce many hits including “Electrostatic,” “Body Pressure,” and “Electric Vision” and his album Muscle Machine was voted as one of the top three albums of the year by Groove Magazine. He has remixed tracks for Sven Vath, Dave Clarke and Hell, but his popularity has been attributed mainly to his awesome live performances which combine both techno and EBM. Besides appearing at the best known techno clubs around the world, Terence Fixmer has also played at a number of the world’s largest music events and festivals including I Love Techno, May Day, Nature One, Pukkelpop, Dour Festival, and Benicassim.

In the mid to late 90s, while Terence Fixmer was immersed in the techno scene, Douglas McCarthy was for the most part out of the music industry, focusing on film and design in Cambridge, England. But such was not the case for McCarthy during the 80s and early 90s. In 1982 McCarthy founded Nitzer Ebb, an avant-garde electronic band, which released several global club hits prior to signing to Mute Records in 1986. The band, like Terence Fixmer, was known for their incredible stage presence, with McCarthy’s voice bringing power and popularity to their performance. The band toured almost nonstop to promote the five albums they released from 1987 to 1995, but after the last US tour for the 1995 album “Big Hit,” Nitzer Ebb called it quits. Douglas McCarthy worked with Alan Wilder from Depeche Mode after the band split, but decided to take a break from the music scene for a while to concentrate on studying film and design. In 2000, McCarthy moved back to London to work as a director and assistant director in advertising.

Then Fixmer and McCarthy met in 2002 and the rest is, as they say, history.

With their combined musical knowledge, Fixmer/McCarthy are poised to unleash their electronic assault on the unsuspecting masses. Corrosive, explosive beats, infectious sequences, and aggressive melodies are sure to disintegrate any dance floor.

Terence Fixmer has shared a brand new remix by German techno powerhouse Marcel Dettmann, a reworking of ‘Evolve’, one of the stand out tracks from Fixmer’s recent album, THE PARADOX IN ME, out now on Mute / NovaMute.

‘Evolve (Marcel Dettmann Remix)’ will feature on a new EP, Magnetic North, set for release on 16 July. The three-track EP also includes a remix of ‘Another End’ by German techno producer / DJ, and founder of Recorded Things imprint, Oliver Rosemann and a new track, ‘Magnetic North’, which explains Fixmer, “serves as a bridge between THE PARADOX IN ME and the sound of my future album, which will be lean towards the club, and be more techno, and hypnotic with raw sounds.”

Talking about long-time friend and occasional collaborator Dettmann’s remix, Fixmer explains, “Marcel chose ‘Evolve’ to remix, he always likes tracks when I put my voice to it. I love the way it starts with a dubby direction, before developing into electronic club sequence and bringing on the voice. Marcel is so creative, it’s an honour to share this remix.”
