Der Londoner Singer-Songwriter Charlie Cunningham kehrt am 8. April mit seiner dritten EP “Heights” zurück und komplettiert damit seine EP Trilogie, bestehend aus „Outside Things“, „Breather“ und nun „Heights“, die hierzulande auf CD und digital bei Butterfly Collectors erscheint.

Der Titelsong “Heights” gibt einen ersten Einblick in die neue EP und ist wahrscheinlich Charlies bisher unkonventionellster und komplexester Song. Wenn er dafür sein vertrautes, perkussives Gitarrenspiel gegen ein wunderschönes, zartes Piano tauscht, scheint Charlie in der Luft zu schweben und überrascht damit das Publikum bereits mit den ersten Klängen.

“Telling It Wrong” (welches bereits als außergewöhnliche Live Session von Mahogany gefilmt wurde – mit bisher 135,000 Views auf YouTube) und “Blindfold” sind perfekte Beispiele für Charlies beeindruckende Fähigkeit, starke und zugleich zarte, ehrliche Texte und Musik zu schreiben.

Die dritte EP wurde im Sommer 2015 zwischen London, Oxford und Essex aufgenommen.

Nachdem Charlie Cunningham den legendären Rodriguez in diesem Jahr bei zwei weiteren Shows unterstützt hat (er war bereits sein Support in der Royal Albert Hall), und Le Monde ihn nach seinem bemerkenswerten Auftritt beim Eurosonic 2016 als eine ihrer Offenbarungen betitelte, wird Charlie in ein paar Wochen wieder auf Tour sein.

London based songwriter Charlie Cunningham returns with his eagerly anticipated third EP Heights on April 8th via Butterfly Collectors (Germany, Switzerland, Austria). Heights follows Charlie’s acclaimed Breather EP and Outside Things EP (Butterfly Collectors, 2015) and completes his EP trilogy.

The EP was recorded between London, Oxford and Essex during Summer 2015.

Heights – the title track and first insight into the EP, is probably Charlie’s most untraditional and complex song to date. Dropping his familiar percussive guitar playing for a dark and beautiful piano piece.

Blindfold and Telling In Wrong (previously unveiled via an exceptional filmed session for Mahogany – 135,000 YouTube views to date) are classic continued examples of Charlie’s ability to deliver music and lyrics that are both powerful, delicate and honest.

Last year Charlie supported the legendary Rodriguez at the Royal Albert Hall and was asked back to open up his January gigs at the Carre Theatre in Amsterdam. He also played a notable performance at Eurosonic, mentioned by the widely respected French newspaper Le Monde as one of their revelations of the festival. Charlie Cunningham will be back on tour again later this month.

„From Another Mind“ zeigt mal wieder, wohin die Reise in Sachen Techno 2016 so geht. Die innovative Partyreihe von Lokal-Mathador SHDW und seiner Truppe lädt nämlich wieder zum innovativ-frischen Tänzchen mit zwei Headlinern, die weit über den Tellerrand gänginger elektronischer Tanzmusik hinausgucken – ohne natürlich dabei verkopft an die Sache heranzugehen: namentlich Benjamin Damage und Andrea. Zwei Artists, die die 21. (!) Ausgabe von „From Another Mind“ einmal mehr zur eindrucksvollen Werkschau in Sachen Weitblick und knackiger Technohouse-Music machen werden. Benjamin Damage gehört zur umtriebigen Truppe des Labels „50WEAPONS“, einem der profiliertesten Plattformen für stramme und vor allem futuristische Elektronik. 2013 veröffentliche er hier sein erstes Album „Heliosphere“, das ihn endgültig in die vordersten Reihen der Elektronik-Rangliste katapultierte. Seine Tracks sind vielschichtig, detailverliebt und zugleich geradlinig – dazu kommen rare und ungewöhnliche Sounds, so kam beispielsweise neulich der extrem seltene Synthesizer ETI 4600 zum Einsatz. Mit anderen Worten: Seine Musik ist Lichtjahre von der 08/15-Galaxie entfernt. Kein Wunder also, dass der Engländer für seine Musik weltweit gefeiert und gebucht wird. Dazu gibt’s ein Gastspiel des italienischen Überfliegers Andrea, der auf dem Label „Ilian Tape“ beheimatet ist und bei seinen Live-Sets eine deepe House-Salve nach der nächsten zündet. Wer genauer wissen will, was da in dieser Nacht durch die dicke Romy-Anlage prasseln wird, der höre sich mal Andreas aktuelle Platte „Outlines“ an – so geht Innovation mit Wumms! Nicht fehlen darf natürlich Gastgeber SHDW, der einen ganz spezifischen Mix aus Techno mit UK- und Detroit-Anstrich und weitsichtiger Elektronika liefert. Und dieser Mix kommt an – er bespielt damit nämlich nicht nur regelmäßig die Romy, sondern auch angesagte Clubs in ganz Süddeutschland. Seine beiden „FAM“-DJ-Homies Obscure Shape und Silent One sind ebenfalls am Start, um von Anfang bis Ende eine Nacht mit Abfahrts-Garantie zu sichern.

Two young artists from Stützpunkt join the new faces roster tonight. Background Radiation aka BGR is a young DJ/producer from Berlin, whose sets are simply magic in their depth, whether mysteriously dark or straight up techno, the groove remains, breaks out into wide open spaces and dancefloors love it. Dan Divinium aka Opal is a producer from Berlin making techno and experimental electronic music. Producing and mixing techno since several years, creating new sounds by blending genres and thinking outside the box, his main focus is on techno and house, but not limited to that. Born and raised in Berlin, Opal produces puristic, dub, industrial and experimental techno. Both of these DJs are welcomed by our excellent techno resident Mario Berger.
