Press Info:
Life in a capital city can feel at times anonymous. In 2017, a chance online meeting brought together two musicians with a penchant for analogue synthesizers, goth-pop and allout bombast. The pair’s output as Szalazar takes this rich history and propels it forward, through a marriage of uncompromising production and winding imagery. They hit hard, they shimmer. They’re swimming in layers – but never hiding beneath them.

What results is a soundtrack to reality falling away; from the heady highs of love and lust, to the honest depths of anxiety. Francisco Gonçalves Silva’s commanding baritone makes Szalazar feel at once wildly out of control and tightly choreographed, with equal parts charisma and madness. Just as they call out amid the Brutalist backdrop of Berlin, so too does their music: a collection of messages, growing out of concrete walls of sound.

The 12th of July 2019 sees the duo release their long-awaited debut EP, Grace , featuring singles ‘Pace’ , and ‘ Souvenirs’ . They celebrate the same day with a return to the live circuit, at Berlin’s ACUD MACHT NEU . Cited by Zitty Berlin as a band to watch, 2019 is the year the world truly gets to hear Szalazar – and once it has, it’s a hard sound to ignore.
